These guys were progressing rappers of their time, what maybe during the 1990's?. Well, sad to say for these guys but they weren't originators of around 1978-1982, in London's Language Lab. It was just off Oxford Street, Dizzy Heights, Furious 5 - which were our version of Coldcrush Brothers, and they were from Lisson Grove and Paddington, Ladbroke Grove. The Strip joint stage was literally in the gig club right across the steps from the Rap Lounge. You would take the caged lift, which ran through tndon Rap scenhe stairwell up through the floors. The steps were dingy, and grimy with red walls as though you were going into a live strip joint, which it was but the Language Lab kicked off when the Strip Show finished. Yes, WE experienced some of the earliest London Rap scene during late 1970's and early 1980's. When Tim Westwood hijacked the Rap Scene with Spats, it all changed when other DJ's started playing Rap as well as Tim W. Look Up Dizzy Heights, as he was one of the few who wore the shoe before others came through, but came late around 88.

Loads of people mentioning British crews below, but we also have to acknowledge the influence of Brit Malcolm McLaren and US producer Arthur Baker in bringing hip hop to a wider UK audience. I think the Freez album IOU (produced by Baker and Robbie) was an important stepping stone towards a proper UK hip hop scene, whilst McLaren's Buffalo Girls was a huge hit in the UK. The true roots of hip hop in the UK go back to those days in the early 80s and the crews that followed like Broken Glass, Newtrament etc. came from a growing awareness of hip hop and the electro sound made popular here. Obviously the early US hip hop films were also influential, and later, Mike Allen's Capital show which helped influence and spawn a whole new generation of budding rappers and DJ's simply through bringing the US hip hop scene to London. the true roots of British hip hop lie in the period 1982 - 85. the likes of Mc Mello would I am certain admit that their own careers spawned from these earlier influences. I know Mello was a fan of the Mike Allen show because he has participated in the Facebook page dedicated to Mike.

How about we all just enjoy that someone decided to do a documentary about UK hip-hop rather than complaining about who it does and doesn't include? Maybe we should just appreciate that something like this even exists, that it's been documented.

@secretspurs
@secretspurs 4 жыл бұрын
King Leopold you should watch it. You can’t not watch it because Jehst isn’t there, it’s not like the filmmakers had access to everyone. Jehst is 100% a pioneer of the scene, but maybe he wasn’t available for this film. The film isn’t intended to list all the pioneers of UK Hip-Hop, I think the title is a touch misleading in that sense, it is more a documentary about the UK scene itself in those early days, particularly mid-90s to early noughties. And it does get a bunch of legit pioneers sitting down and interviewed on the subject - Task Force, Lewis Parker, Gunshot, Aspects and many others. It’s a decent documentary, it’s just let down by the video quality if anything.

I totally agree about those missing, but not sure you can dismiss the rest, lol- Chester P & Task Force, Gunshot, MC Mell O, Blade to name a few have been around just as long as Rodney & the London Posse. Whilst I agree that there are plenty glaring omissions, you've got to realise that maybe not everyone is available to do the documentary and you need licences to show their music also.

Chester P, always MC Mello, Rdney Panton done did,, this documentary and everyoneone in here are exceptional, but where is Jeff Tetteh? the absolute frontline of UK raggamuffin' Hip Hop,the originator of the true London style of hip hop,(if you disagree, i'd love to hear why and the justification) and also this is generaly London Hip Hop which I think is the finest, but when London rappers suggest that they are fine with Welsh, Irish & Scottish rap in the way they accept London Rap I hugely disagree with, I'm Welsh, I prefer London chat, if it's good. London has to understand and respect other areas of the UK, on the other hand they have to be on the money, i'll finish with the simple fact that UK Hip Hop is always based on Bionic. absolutely no doubt, nobody has ever come near Money Mad, that is/was the British Standard.

Keiron Jones Bionic was a big influence on me.He used his own accent way before others, and not just when in raggamuffin mode, but also in hiphop mode.The London Posse track itself,"Met a few sorts on the way to the ritz",and when he finishes chatting on Style and goes into straight up HipHop,its the rawest,realest UK style!

Yeah, because Hip-Hop is all about stereotypes and what you look like. This is why proper UK Hip-Hop will always make me proud - it's never really suffered from the same cultural barriers as US Rap. Some of them "Harry Potter" types are some of the best MCs/Producers/DJs around. Download and listen to their MP3 and you ain't gonna stop listening because you think they look like a Hobbit. And just 'cos they're white & from England it doesn't mean they've got no life experience and nothing interesting to say Also, the fact the ain't just spittin' crap about guns, money and sex actually make their music more interesting to listen to in my opinion. Some of Chester's lyrics, for example, are the most intelligently written you're likely to hear - & he freestyles them a lot of the time!
