I got this and really didn’t care for it. However I did find the ability to shut off the chanter while maintaining steady pressure on the drones to be a great feature. I used it while playing “it’s a long way to the top” by AC/DC on stage and it came in handy for that song when my cover band played it

Great video, Matt! The information, as usual, is clear, concise, and unbiased. Your KZbin library is a real treasure trove.

I’m sure this will be deleted, but Chris was in CT at Enders Island showing this invention . I ended up getting it and it definitely wasn’t for me. I sold it to a band mate and it’s now made its rounds through a few other pipers in the band. Chris was very nice though showing us this I think this is more geared to a year one piper Thank you Matt for reviewing it

That was the original PitchGuard Dave. This is slightly different. Now the PG is incorporated into a split-stock. Easier to install and also an internal AND external reed cap. Helpful to pipers at all levels.

Hi Matt! I've been using the pitch guard for almost year. Love it. So handy to turn off my chanter and keep my drones in tune when someone calls a tune I don't know :)

👍 Like your review and video on this product. This device has its purposes. I personally like it and use it when my reeds become fussy on a hot day when they don’t want to pitch correctly. But being competent in tuning to low A without this device is a must for every good piper like I still do. Helps me to double check too if my pipes are acting fussy. Not sure if anyone had this issue, but I found that I had to really shove the reed in the throat of the chanter so far I had to remove all the hemp and some of the black string surrounding the actual reed itself. But this device does have its uses.

Most of the band uses the old Pitch Guard. Bear in mind the band is not five years old yet, so keeping pressure is still an issue. The old Pitch Guard does not leak but can sometimes move out of place and you've basically lost the pipes, but with the jubilee clamp, you can easily get it back in place. I find it useful but I can see it still needs some working But for newbies, I think it's especially helpful.

Thanks for the review. I just got one a couple of weeks ago but I'm waiting on my new MacLellan Revelations to actually try it out.

Thanks for the video, matt. It's an interesting product. But lowering the chanter is a big issue for me since I'm a wee lad. And, I've been working really hard lately to try to make my pipes come to me instead of me going to them.

I have considered buying but for me the stock is just to long and would force me to play down to low and its not something i want to do . Should one be made with a shorter stock I would definitely purchase one

Hello, my name is Dalton. I was wondering what does a bagpipe feel like? I am visually impaired, and have never seen one before. I am fascinated with musical instruments and have learned at least 5 of them and still learning. Also, do you know where I might be able to feel of a bagpipe? I'm currently in Arizona, and I don't currently know anyone who plays the pipes.

Dalton, I’m pretty sure there’s a pipe band scene in Arizona might want to do a search and see if you can reach out to a pipe band and they might be able to be of some assistance. Good luck !

A bagpipe with feel like a big animal skin bag of air. It is tucked under your left arm against your body. There will be 3 long wooden pipes coming out of the top of the bag. They will lay over your left shoulder, pointing into the air. They are 2-3 feet long. One is longer than the other 2. They produce the droning sound. They are loosely tied together with a single rope to prevent them from falling over. There will be another shorter wooden pipe coming out of the top of the bag that you keep in your mouth to blow air into. And there will be one pipe with holes in it coming out of the front of the bag and you will play in your hands. This is the chanter and produces the melody. Hope this helps for now.

Have you tried Apps' cane practice chanter reeds? I would love to see a video of you trying them in multiple practice chanters.

I have not... Not a bad idea. Now to see if someone will buy me a few to try! A typically KZbin of mine only make $8-10 a piece in ad revenue, so I don't tend to spend money purchasing things to review (as I won't see a return on the "investment").

@@MattWillisBagpiper I ordered myself 4 of them yesterday. They currently have about a 6-8 week lead time. I'll look into sending you a couple.

Interesting….but what‘s wrong with mastering the art of steady blowing? Surely a product designed for absolute beginners.

When one dials in the HA…what happens to the other notes? How about the taping. It seems like changing the dial settings would throw the whole chanter off to fix a note? Good video though for someone to make an assessment on.

I didn't notice any changes to the tuning. If one does notice their tuning has changed, I would suspect it means they were blowing unsteadily (or at different pressures for different notes), then this would "solve" the pressure problem, allowing one to tune at a more consistent pressure.

It's certainly more than a little beaten up. But it still works! My inner Scotsman can't replace it until it's actually broken!
