Something to think about - there's a reason I'm seeing so many iPhone users jump ship to Pixels on social media. *Far* more than I normally see with Samsung phones. Pixels are more accessible to the audience they're targeting and that is by design.

In my honest opinion,i prefer Samsung,because as Zack from Jerryrig says "i'd rather have a tool and not need it than need a tool and not have it". I enjoy a lot all of the custumization options Samsung gives you and i use them to its fullest. I use 2 screens on my fold6 and they are different. And regarding the splitscreen,no,i rarely even use 2 apps at once; 3,almost never

fold 6 is my main machine, I use dex everyday, use it as phone, tablet, handheld game console (with kishi), home game console (with tv, 8bitdo controller), ereader, laptop (with lapdock), desktop (with monitor or ar glasses), use it for everything from browsing the web to gaming to software engineering, price and features make it worth it for me since it replaces all those devices with one I keep in my pocket

Not having two different displays for cover screen and inside screen is a deal breaker for me. I tried other launchers on the Fold 4 but none of them could do this. My use cases: 1) My cover screen has calendar and to do list widgets, and the bottom row is the browser, phone, messages, and maps. 2) The inside screen is media focused: gaming, reading, and video streaming apps and widgets.

I actually really like the 3 apps at once. I use it for my finances! (which is only once a month, but it saves a lot of time for that one use) And i use the floating window all the time too. The best feature for me tho is the customization. My phone definitely doesn't look like a work phone lol. Goodlock makes my phone, my phone. Every color from the notification shade to the keyboard to the animations for notifications, the volume panel, theres SO many features in good lock that i use all the time/passively. I love my fold 6. That said, I won't upgrade it until they give us the regular phone aspect ratio on the front. That's the one thing that I feel like I'm missing out on.

It's rather ironic, but actually Apple is turning iOS into Android in terms of features, whilst Google is trying to turn their version of Android into iOS... It's also rather ironic that praised features like AI wallpapers can fall exactly to the "Samsung give you options you rarely use" category. And no, less isn't always more. I'm no power user, but stack widget functionality and lock screen widgets or options in Good Lock actually improve my productivity, whereas in Google's Android I'd have to put up every day with the barely useful, to me at least, at a glance widget glued at my home screen. Google's Android reminds me of iOS of yesteryear. More playful at the surface but restrictive and bare bones in reality. Some people love it some dislike it, but as i see it with iOS 18 and One UI 7 around the block Google will be having hard time attracting people in terms of software.

Samsung has a comparable interactive call screening feature called Bixby Text Call (now just "Text Call" on 6.1.1). They also have call transcription and translation. The voice to text with Bixby is very good now, although you can simply set it to use the Google voice to text if you prefer. Essentially, nothing you should be missing on Samsung aside from Now Playing.

I do use both of those, but for me the pixel versions of those features just seem to work way better.. 3:28 plus *five* floating windows (which can be "flung" off the screen and tapped to bring back into focus) 4:48 Samsung had magic eraser before Google did 5:18 Samsung has had interactive call screening with Bixby Text Call for a while 5:23 Samsung Keyboard has had an integration with Grammarly for years This is just a few notes off the top of my head. There were other features you mentioned that may be in the same realm of either Samsung having it first or around the same time. Now Playing and Made You Look are pretty much the only unique feature of the Pixel that didn't come first or later replicated on another (typically Samsung) device. As for 3 apps side by side, I don't use it often but knowing the option is there when I need it is invaluable. Sometimes having the video player docked in the corer of a 3-split is better than PIP because it's not occluding the rest of your content. Floating windows, though, I use all the time.

@@scaryifliteral lol, I guess because the features/functions you list form the premise for your argument re: Google's focus vs. Samsung's. You asked if we agree/disagree, so I guess the implication is that I disagree given most were not Pixel-first features, and that Samsung was not purely focusing on "productivity" features. I'd argue that Google has no real focus or direction in how it chooses to develop, include, or exclude features and functions. The "Google graveyard" is a great example of this scattershot, non-committal approach. The fact that floating windows rolled out in Android 7 and the desktop mode developer framework in Android 10, yet we're here now 8 and 5 versions later respectively with barely any progress to show for them, is also indicative.
@scaryifliteral
@scaryifliteral 19 сағат бұрын
I didn't admonish you for disagreeing, I just think a lot of this is nitpicking and missing my point a bit. That's fine though! Everyone will see things their own way. I think you might be taking what I'm getting at a little too strongly though. Me saying that Samsung focuses on power user stuff doesn't mean they have never made a feature that seems at home on a Pixel. We're talking broad strokes, so pointing out a feature here or there is a bit too far in the minutia for me. By the way, when I mentioned Magic Eraser I was listing features I thought were emblematic of what Pixels are about, not necessarily stating who did what first. I did mention Magic Editor straight after that and mentioned that OEMs are copying/adopting that sort of feature, so that could have been said more clearly. You mentioned Bixby Text call as if I wasn't aware of it, despite literally showing it on screen in the video lol. The Grammarly thing is fair as it's something they've both done so perhaps not the best distinction. Although I would say the implementation is pretty different between the two. Last thing I'll say, and this might be the best thing for pointing out where maybe we're missing each other, is the bit about floating windows. It's been possible for *years*, yet they haven't done it. You say that's indicative of lack of focus, I'm saying it's indicative of lack of focus on that feature and focus instead being on other things. Things that Samsung *does* focus on. Likewise, there are features that Google focus on that Samsung doesn't (definitely more than the two you mentioned lol). Nonetheless, thanks for the comment. No ill will in my reply - I find I need to say that anytime I disagree with someone or they automatically assume I'm raging lol.

@@scaryifliteral I appreciate your perspective and the opportunity to exchange ideas (hence why I'm still watching your videos and commenting on them)! For what it's worth, I think Samsung is starting to lose their direction, too, with some of their recent decisions both hardware and software-wise. I by no means mean to disregard their shortcomings (I started that thread on Samsung Members asking for DeX on the inner display 3 years ago and here we are still without it). I will say I was hoping for more from Google this year, but maybe some surprises await with the full release of Android 15 on the P9 Fold. Thanks for the thoughtful discourse :)

Hit the nail on the head. First, pointing at the spec ...3 windows vs 2. What do most people use? Because of my age and profession, I've been involved with mobile devices a lot longer than most. This is indeed the question. Personally I rarely use split screens. But a couple of times a week, I do. But it's rare, very rare that I wish to use more than 2. Regarding the Samsung features. Too many. Overkill. I stopped using Samsung because I was simply tired of the over crowded list. I rarely used Samsung apps. Though Samsung now markets many feature differently, several years ago it was junky. Won't ever go there again. Didn't know if you recall, but several years ago Samsung tried to pull a major power play and tried to create a separate version of Android for their own use. Google came down hard on them and Samsung almost lost their license for the kernel.🤷🏼‍♂️

That was a very interesting analysis Shane. Being able to add a floating calculator would be really nice to have but otherwise, the only Samsung "feature" I miss in the Pixel world is the Samsung/Microsoft Link to Windows/myPhone experience. I think it was more fully featured several years ago than the experience I get on my 9 Pro Fold today.

Which approach I prefer? It would definitely be Samsung. Every time I use a Pixel, I'm just floored at the animation quality difference and just how reliable task of point and shoot is. We just don't have that on Samsung. But then if I go any deeper at all, then I start running into all those black bars, orientation rules, usage variety limits stuff that even developer options can't fix on Pixel... and I end up missing OneUI so much that I just HAVE to go back. That's increased tenfold on foldables since the one reason I ever gave them a shot was the digital artist aspect of having a stylus. Not to take away from how awesome Pixel Fold is. My coworker just got a 9 Pro Fold and I've been using it ever chance he gives me. It's great, just not quite cut out to handle what I use a foldable for.

Right now my Zfold 5 is in my pocket.....and I can't tell you what my background is....who cares, It is just there to be something in the background until I pick the app I want to open. I don't edit photos on my phone, I rarely edit photos when I do I do it on my PC. Dex is very cool and I could see myself using it, but again I have multiple other devices so I don't really. But things like the battery saving and having many ways to launch apps (drawer on the side) etc. on Samsung are great. Mostly I am buying hardware, the software is mostly android and differentiators aren't all that important to me.

I think google’s approach is to also be a transfer for apple users. I know A LOT of people including myself who have or will be switching to pixel because of the similar ui experience, similar camera quality, not overwhelming to someone new switching over. While also giving the ability to allow 3rd party launchers. And the fold just makes that experience on a larger display. Making it more appeasing if you’re in the market for a foldable.

Google's feature gap is INEXCUSABLE. Not only is the UI not tailored enough to a folding phone, but the lack of Dex alternative proves they are not concentrating on this phone against the competition.... It's like the software dept doesn't care! Also, I don't buy the iPhone story . Google never said this. This should not be suggested as an explanation for Google's incomplete attention to the foldable market abilities. We are not in a bubble. We have many China foldables that have concentrated on execution of their foldable design. Google hasn't. Bottom line they had over a year with the Original Pixel Fold and have not changed anything. Most all improvements were general and not foldable specific. I was on Android 15 beta whole time, with NOTHING specific to the Pixel Fold (except making apps fill screen). The Truth is Google has not paid enough attention to the Fold's software. Not any iPhone. The only reason we have any iPhone migration, is because Google pushing their AI, and as we know, simpleton iPhone users like automation. Google & Samsung have a monopoly on the US market, so that's why iphone users migrate. Regardless, OnePlus Open 2 comes, all these models will be completely obsolete.

Another thing to consider is that, as a long term Apple user, I found the Z Fold very difficult to get used to (apart from the front screen being too narrow). So trying again with the pixel 9 Pro fold I find it is so much easier to transition to the simpler approach of the pixel. That said, I could not be described as a power user and still use my iPhone as a daily driver but use the Pixel 9 Pro fold as my 'leisure' device - okay, an ultra portable tablet but with a usable outside screen. I find the Gemini advanced not really very useful and I will not be paying £19 a month for it after the year that it has been free with the phone. It is quite gimmicky and even for the tools I would find useful - it only refers to Google apps for example I cannot ask when is Mary's birthday as that's in my MSN app - I generally use third party apps so I'm not tired to a walled garden (yes as I said I am an Apple user too)

Too many excuses for Google especially with a device that costs a lot of money. Software offering from Google for foldables and tablets is poor and it should be rightly called out. Samsung have been consistent with their hardware and software offering and improving upon them. They also don't have the tendency to kill a service like Google. So the features you love today could be gone tomorrow or locked behind an AI subscription. I use a pixel 7 pro so i have no loyalty to Samsung, however Google have been slacking for many years now.

I don't buy the iPhone story . Google never said this. This should not be suggested as an explanation for Google's incomplete attention to the foldable market abilities. They are not in a bubble. We have many China foldables that have concentrated on execution on foldable UI.

In my opinion you go to Google for stock Android and you go to any other phone for extras

To be clear, I would consider AOSP to be stock android and virtually no OEM uses that with no extras - not even Pixels. They have quite a few features added on not found in AOSP. Just not as many multitasking features as others. Still, they have their exclusive stuff.

I've held onto my fold4 for a few years now, I do not make much use of the additional features beyond split screening. And the amount of times I run into the aspect ratios for both the inner and outer displays breaking certain apps (looking at you discord) have me leaning towards the pixel heavily for my next phones. I would miss the occasional productivity feature, but for day to day use I think I would much rather have a more "normal" front display and not have my apps break or letterbox.

If the Z Fold inner display breaks certain apps for you, the Pixel Fold will be even worse. Samsung has the best optimizations out there for getting non-compliant apps to work on its displays.

@@scaryifliteral I recall the app being awful in general after a redesign a year or two ago. I just use the website. The mobile site works well on the outer screen of the Z Fold and desktop site on the inner.

😮I do believe you are right about Samsung being targeted at the power user and how most individuals rarely use a 3rd app option. But i think the option to do so is important. I would've never thought about using 3 apps at once until KZbinr Jamal Lee showed off the 3 app combinations he uses daily as well as the quick shortcuts available to do so.

I use a oneplus open and was considering waiting for the pixel fold pro but i really wanted that cover screen from the original pixel fold. That wouldve made me get a pixel fold pro instantly

I'm with you, I constantly give Samsung a shot every year but it just seems like their software is too kiddish or cartoony if that makes sense. Love that it has all those features but in reality are rarely used. I got the Z fold 6, love the closed in hand feel but again couldn't get passed the UI animations and sounds, used some of the many features at first but then forgot about them. I returned the phone and got the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and man was I impressed with the hardware this time around, showed it to the wife and her first reaction was that it looked and felt like something Apple would make if they made a foldable (Shes a big Apple fan so that was a compliment lol). I recently got the new iPhone 16 Pro max and its safe to say the iPhone is doing too much of the same old thing but with a camera button. Genuinely missed using the Pixel 9 Pro Fold after going back to the iPhone which isn't very commen for me. Google just needs to add a few features that would make the phone perfect. 1. Floating window 2. Ability to customize inside screen different than cover display 3. Dex like feature when connected to tv and lastly the ability to mirror your phone on PC and use your phone on your desktop (Which I believe is also a Dex feature)

You say you're with Shane, but he literally said the opposite of what you're saying re: look and feel. Google's is the "kiddish" UI, while Samsung's is more business-like. Samsung's animations, colours, and shapes are subtle compared to the bouncy castle that is Pixel UI.

@@nickthaskater Oh wow, missed that part sorry. I was referring to the phone missing certain key features and gravitating towards Pixel phones. As for the UI, Samsung's just seems more of a childrens phone to me than Pixel UI maybe its all the sounds, Pixel UI seems to have better UI sounds more refined less toy like.

If we are paying thousands of dollars for phones it should have the option for everything. That's why Samsung is king. Apple and Google are so minimal in features. IDK how people keep falling for that.

@@scaryifliteral could be both depending on the person. Some people are so unaware of the features other phones have. For instance when I show Apple users what android can do they are dumbfounded. They look at me like why can't Apple do that? 😂. I personally don't use some of the features Samsung has but it's great to know that I have them especially knowing how much the phone cost. If Google and Apple want to give you minimal features then they should bring down the price of their phones. Just my opinion

@jairosoto5899 Minimal features with regard to one sort of use, not minimal in general. If I count the total features on a Galaxy phone I use daily vs the same on a Pixel, I use more Pixel stuff.
