Ms Susanna Malkki has such a presence on the podium, she's definitely one of my favorite conductors. She has such amazing energy in this piece and really brings it to life.

No doubt about it..

She definitely knows how to command a presence and let the audience know that this is a classical masterpiece. Somehow, I think Gustav Holst himself was in attendance in spirit and weeping in joy at how his music has been played through the centuries.

I do not think I would ever want this woman to be upset with me. The level of commitment to what she is doing is almost scary.

This is in my oppinion the best perfomance of this piece ever. I like the pace, the precision of the players and the quality of the recording. Would love to have it on Apple music as spatial audio. The conductor is amazing!!

I absolutely agree, it’s quite an overwhelming experience. It’s such a wonderfully emotive and powerful piece, and such a joy to witness it in capable hands.

In 1992 (or thereabouts) I moved from Saturday morning string orchestra for kids to the local "Youth" orchestra. I was a violinist and this was my first time in an orchestra with more than just strings. This was the main piece in my first concert. Sat at the back desk of the second violins, with the brass behind me, thumping this magnificent and terrfiying tune, the terror, the power, the emotion, the fun, the EVERYTHING of classical music was drummed literally into my soul. I hardly ever listen to it now - it's been replaced in my heart by other pieces, allegedly more sophisticated - but hearing it now, I am back onto back desk of seconds, terrfiied and ecstatic all again.

Astrology is silly but, somehow, Holst represented perfectly The Planets.
@aguador672 жыл бұрын
You have NOT studied astrology. Therefore, you can't even say "it's silly". And if Holst (actually VON Holst) was able to "perfectly represent the planets", it was because he DID study astrology, encouraged by a friend of his, Clifford Bax, brother of composer Arnold Bax, back in 1912, shortly before he started composing the suite.
@lolllololllo2 жыл бұрын
@@aguador67 I will not study something not scientifically based.
@aguador672 жыл бұрын
@@lolllololllo Agreed. Without wanting to get into a fight (otherwise pointless and for which we could both be banned from this channel... very typical Mars stuff, by the way), I would like to recommend you to read a book on this subject: "The Night Speaks", by Mr. Steven Forrest. Better if you can read it without prejudice. Sometimes what closes our eyes to reality is our fear of being convinced by something that "most people" consider nonsense... and making a fool of ourselves. Read it and then we'll talk. It's ok if the book "doesn't convince you". Best regards.

It’s so powerful and terrifying. My mom killed herself and I found her body in her apartment. I can only visualize her being tormented in her own mind when I hear this piece, fighting merciless demons no one could see but her. Music says things words can’t begin to illustrate. I miss her and feel sorrow that she had to fight and fight and fight and fight…
