The chord changes & chromatic modulations from major to minor... fuggedaboudit! In the age of Melodyne and Autotune, who is even trying to learn such works of art, let along sing them. Same reason Nu Metal avoid the metal I grew up on like Sabbath, the Ronnie Dio years.

High school in the mid 50's was a trip.My class back east was '58, and THE PLATTERS were just terrific back then, hit after hit, the BEST slow music to dance to ever. We were so cool, we never even knew how lucky we were, or how it all would change forever shortly thereafter. That fabulous music, those beautiful girls, the unbelievable cars - what a time it was to be young & alive! Hail hail rock 'n' roll!

@randolfo3910 ай бұрын
My prayer story It must have been 50 years ago. I saw the platters do this live in a small Club off to the side of LaGuardia Airport in Corona Queens. The group does the opening numbers without Tony Williams. He comes out to lead. He trips and falls into the drums and cymbals. (Small stage). They pick him up, dust him off and he sings “My Prayer“ exactly like the record, exactly. We’re standing ten foot from the stage. This song was drilled right thru us….you don’t learn how to sing like that, he was born that way. If I remember right, I think it was New Year’s Eve.

My, my! So melodic. So transforming I love this song. I always have. I must have been four or five when I first heard it. As a little boy I would sway back-and-forth to this song in kind of a daze. I was obsessed with music, especially music that stuck, and this song stuck like a few of others that they did as well. The way they did their vocals, and touched each others talents. It’s rare when that happens, but it’s a wonderful life remembering thing.
