The magic of The Platters and similar doo-wop groups was the simplicity of the lyrics blended with extraordinary talent. This song tells a whole beautiful story in a few, well-chosen words delivered as only The Platters could.

I grew up to this music from listening to my moms records.I would play these songs over and over. All of my friends liked rock and I was a weirdo into my moms stash of records.I had to sneak playing them because she didn't want me to scratch her records. So I had to wait until she was at work.I was very careful not to scratch any of them. She had great taste and it exposed me to a lot of different types of music. She was a little over the Hippies age so she liked 40s and 50s stuff.

.I'm 80 now, I've always been sad, there is so much I have missed before I was born, and so much I would have missed if I wasn't. It seems to me now, I must have known it all along, "For so many have passed before their time". And I miss them all. I've been a fan of The PLatters Forever, had nothing to do with the theme of the song I just liked the way the singer and the arrangement sounded, I guess. I haven't changed. And I'm not a fan of most songs my favorite singers sang. It's usually only three or four out of every other 10.
