Pros of this episode: • Grusha Backstory being visualised in the anime • Not much filler in the episode, and the battle starts quite early before the ad break, which is good. • Liko's strategies were definitely impressive. Cons of this episode: • Mostly just Grusha's result of the test, and refusal to rematch. I don't personally mind anyways, it makes Grusha extremely imposing and worth his strength as a gym leader. Overall I would give this a 7/10. Whatever conflict this episode has provided because of Grusha, I can mind it if the upcoming episodes give Liko the second chance she deserves, which they likely will. Because of the upcoming episodes being more focused on Liko and Amethio however, I guess we won't see this until or after episode 66.

While I was upset that Liko's test was deemed as a failure with no possible rematch, it's sort of makes sense in multiple regards not just for her character but for Grusha's character too. Liko was never a strong battler and she does not have much experience with battling, not to mention Hattrem doesnt have much battling experience either. I want to highlight one of the statements that Grusha made at the end, "In a real battle there are no rematches". This outlook is negative but it has real weight behind it. The gym leader does not know what these kids have gone through or will go through in the future, but he is trying to put across that you need to take every battle as serious as if it is your last. At least that is the way I interpreted it

I know we already got the resolution to this now, but yeah, back when I watched it, I thought it was fucked up that Grusha didn’t even think to give Liko a second chance, considering how well she did against 2 of his Pokémon that were super effective against Floragato. Like, she’s still a new trainer and he’s expecting her to beat 2 of his Pokémon that both have type advantages over her? He’s literally a professional Pokémon Trainer. The fact he gives her no slack on his decision to fail her is CRAZY to me. It is really fitting for his character though, so it does make sense. And I’m glad the protagonist doesn’t just have endless plot armor, and all the main cast still lose sometimes and learn from their mistakes every time. I’m glad Liko eventually ended up passing by helping to save the entire school and Grusha admitting he had her all wrong

It would be very surprising if they kept these consequences of losing, especially with a big battle with the Explorers coming up. I'm wondering if they'll somehow involve Grusha in the situation, like if Dot and Roy go to him for help (especially considering the danger Spinel put them all in before, and what he did to Liko. You mind wipe a child on an icy mountain, and she'll die.) or if, since we see him wandering around on the mountain earlier in the episode, if he catches sight of the battle on his own, and he gives her another chance since he realizes the gravity of her situation, why she kind of needs that Tera Orb.

Personally I really like this! I agree liko was failed because of a flaw in Grusha’s own character but if you really think about it he’s right. At the end of the day liko battled well but she still lost. It’s the dose of reality this group needed. Even tho liko inherently didn’t do anything wrong she still could’ve prepared better. This is the equivalent to a student not studying for an exam, failing it, then asking for extra credit. ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES and I will always stand on that. Liko can either take her loss and be defeated over it, beg grusha for a rematch, or take this as a lesson to move forward it’s all on her. Plus Liko is sort of the defacto leader of the group so how she handles this will influence Dot and Roy as well. One thing tho I really don’t like how people are hating on grusha and using his past against him. I believe how a person deals with their past shapes their character in the present how I see it grusha pivoted from a devastating career injury and made a name for himself In another field. THATS NOT EASY. Grusha’s character did change but people calling him out on failing Liko because of his all or nothing type of personality just seems immature and petty. We learned about Grusha’s backstory from someone else. We don’t know how he truly felt about everything. I want to learn more about him in the future and see how liko grows from this episode. Overall I loved this episode just the dose of reality the cast needed. This was a good episode with pretty great Grusha's backstory as well While Roy got 1-1 in it's first Ryme fight, and Liko got swept here, i feel like she performed way better here than Roy. She constantly uses different strategies during the battle (like using Magical Leaf into Cetitan's mouth to stop its attack or stopping Altaria's Moonblast spam by catching its legs with yo-yo and slamming into the ground with Acrobatics). That's type of s**t, that Ash would do honestly. Hattrem was eh but showed way better than Kilowattrel (at least she damaged Cetitan a bit). She uses Tera at the right time and Magical Leaf/ Ice Beam clash was really clean. Yet Grusha didn't pass her with no rematch, not because she did something wrong, but simply because Liko lost the battle. I feel like, rematch is upcoming. Maybe Liko will do something in 64-65, to let Grusha reconsider his decision and allowing for retry.

I think really what it is, is that Grusha is more hiding behind his past and using that as an excuse to have the attitude he has. Or to put it another way, he had one setback and just gave up on that entire career because of it instead of overcoming it. Basically, Grusha is your prototypical competitive gamer. So it'll be interesting to see how that changes in the episodes to come. It's clear that based on previous episodes, this is going to be resolved in an episode or two. And it might take Grusha getting a major ego check in order to snap out of this mentality and make him realize there's more to life than the best results. Unlike what he was doing before becoming a Gym Leader, you can't quit on your Pokemon just because you lose a battle or have a setback.

Outrage seams to miss the clearly stated character arc of both Liko thinking about what is important to indivudual trainers and Grusha taking winning seriously. If you have any sense of story telling the first act is losing due to grusha taking winning seriously, mid act is liko reflecting and seeing whats at the heart of grushas decision. The final act is either a basic rematch to confront this ooor the Ash route of them both getting lost on the mountain or they rescue a Cetodle and have to survive nature to get home and grusha sees the error of their ways

Grusha is harsh to Liko. But he is also worried for her, because he can see she has potential but if she were to be coddled, she can’t reach it. Yup, that is how life is. Some teachers have quirks and flaws, and if you fail to meet them, they will give you a lower grade than other teachers would. Not all teachers are the same, and this episode proves it. Also, it is important for Liko to also care about the result a little bit more. Sure, doing your best does matter and you should be proud of that, but if you don't care that much for the result, you might hit a stagnant state and end up not really pushing past your limits. In a competitive world, you can't settle for just doing your best. You have to want to reach the goal with all your might and then some. Ash might accept failures and losses, but he also wants to be the very best like no one ever was and he would keep trying to surpass his limits.

Yeah no, there is no way you ever will win every battle ever and there will be serious defeats. The key is getting up and growing, not destroying others like Grusha does. He doesn't sound like a harsh trainer, but a bully with his talk of despair and ruin. Liko failed none of her battles, she proved in all of them her worth except with Grusha, who is projecting hard here and doesn't even tell her what to do better. Wanting to win is one thing, but focusing only on results is bad, it leads to characters like Paul and Shamus to come and ruin Pokemon.

@tranatkikomi68733 ай бұрын
@@basilofgoodwishes4138It took her until halfway through her battle against Rika to truly feel the passion and drive one needs to try to win. Grusha saw that with his own eyes. He saw she wasn’t willing to push herself until she could finally understand that drive that characters like Roy and Nemona and even Dot had. She often held back out of kindness or uncertainty. She wasn’t going to grow at that rate. And coddling her would allow that to continue to last. Grusha was not being a bully. And while there could have been projection, he’s not wrong. You can’t always pass a test just because you did your best. Life doesn’t always give you second chances. And if Liko is still not strong enough to win against him, how is she supposed to fare against a Rayquaza without holding Roy and Dot back? How is she supposed to keep protecting Terapagos?

I don’t know if this is going to happen, in fact it wouldn’t surprise me if it didn’t, but I had an idea of what would be cool to see in the next two episodes. We know Amethio is going to appear in both of the next episodes, given next week’s preview and the title of the following episode, so I’d like it if he heard about what happened at the assessment. After both episodes potentially bonding with Liko and seeing how much she’s grown since they last battled, he meets Grusha and confronts him about his behavior with Liko’s match. Especially since he’s suffered humiliating defeats and failures against the Rising Voltacklers (especially Friede) but rather than give up, mope, and push his feelings/insecurities onto others (mainly just his Pokemon, Zirc, and Conia) he looked for ways to improve and get better by training with Hamber. He then tells Grusha how shameful and pitiful it is that he, as a gym leader, would refuse to acknowledge Liko after how much she’s grown. This would cause Grusha to consider his conduct, and offer Liko a chance at a rematch. I’m not sure how in character it would be for Amethio to essentially defend Liko’s honor, hence why I’m not sure this would really happen, but it’d be cool to see. And hey, if they do the next two episodes well enough and show Liko and Amethio genuinely connect or at least form some respect on Amethio’s end, maybe something like this could believably work

I believe Liko will have to learn that the true power of a Pokemon doesn't come from typing or attacks, but the heart of the Pokemkn she has to sync with and gain the strenght to defeat Grusha, who is just cold-hearted and doesn't accept defeat. Amethio will probably make her realize that ultimate true strenght is climbing up the ladder instead of giving up because of the fall, as he never gives up. And also make her realize that she doesn't need big attacks to defeat Grusha or the Explorers, but the spirit of a trainer, the very best she can be.

8:20 i dont think Liko rematching Grusha just to defeat him will add any resolve to changing Grusha's viewpoint since Liko obtaining a victory would only prove Grusha's point of why results only matter in pokemon battles. Grusha only commented that Liko wasn't strong enough to defeat him. Grusha never criticized how Liko performed or her relationship with her pokemon, which was done previously during Roy's assessment training with Rhyme. With that said, I think a rematch would be pointless. I hoping Liko 's resolve to passing her terestalized test is by changing Grusha's perception via show of good deed or heroism when facing the explorers.

I get it now, grusha is too competitive, that's why he's so harsh and cold, but he's right you know, in a real battle the result is what matter the most, just imagine if liko lose to explolers and asked them to let her win or asked a rematch, it's just silly as it looks. But what is wrong here, from what grusha said, grusha took this test too seriously to the point he forget that this is just a test for qualification to get the tera orb, they just need to proof that they're capable and understand on how and when they used teraorb, it's not a real battle that loosing will give you a big concequences on your career like a regular competition he used to. For liko though, i've no critism on her, she did a really good job especially she's on disadvantage on type, she rely on her unique stategy and a great timing until she almost win, she was lost because of too high power level, it's a proof that she's grown to be a really smart and a tough battler, she just need more practice when she comes to fight.

If it had been up to Misty, he would not have gotten his second badge without a proper rematch, but Daisy was the one to give it to Ash. Just as she was about to without there being a battle at all. “Take it, a badge is a badge.” And that would have been without any results or trying on Ash’s part. To his credit, he was reluctant about getting his badge handed to him.

I wonder if Liko could've done more. she pretty much did what she could've done for both Hattrem and Floragato. there's just this one scene when she teratalizes Floragato. she did that after successfully landing a direct attack to Altaria after Floragato caught Altaria with it's bud. and Grusha had this shocked expression turned into like an unimpressed face like he did in the games. and then what he said after sounds like he's questioning the timing of Liko's terastalization. it's almost as if he's saying "why would you terastalize right now after pulling off such a clever move". like maybe she could've done more before terastalizing or maybe she could've force Grusha to terastalize first before her. maybe she could've won all the way. it's not hard to notice that now unless I'm overthinking it. if true then Grusha's harshness is not just the reason why LIko didn't pass. the thing is every gym leader has the freedom to set a criteria to pass the test. Larry's criteria was just right, Rhyme was supposed to fail Roy but decides to allow a rematch and Grusha's are strict and calls for perfection. and the test is about terastalization more than anything. Dot lost but she terastalized in the perfect time after the evolution as Larry stated. Roy lost because he terastalizes out of desperation as Rhyme said and he changed that in their rematch. that's why I think, there is something to that scene when Grusha reacted to Floragato's terastalization.

I think Grusha's statement that simply trying isn't enough is something which I agree to here. Just because you impressed with your performance but still ended up in defeat is something which is not worthy of passing. In real life sports, simply putting up an impression on the crowd wouldn't be enough to grant you the victory; you need to work for it. Although I haven't seen the episode, I think Liko needs to train more and take battling even more seriously if ever a chance for a rematch against Grusha comes. Wins do not come easily; they come as a result of hard work and dedication, and if only Liko just showed a bit more dedication in her training with Floragato, she could have passed Grusha's test. Sure, people may hate on Grusha for being rough on such a sensitive and gentle character, but that's the harsh reality of battling; you have only two outcomes: victory or defeat.

In a way, I really appreciate the fact that they are showing how much of a different level the characters are to the gym leaders. Unlike with Ash, he most of the time defeats them on his first try and kind of doesn’t feel like he learn from that particular fight unlike with the horizon cast who actually feel like they’re learning something with these battles. Like with Roy and Rhyme, he actually learned from his experience from her previous fight to not be so cocky and over confident and actually improved has a trainer.

When it comes to the HZ trio's 1st Caught Pokemon's 1st Official Battles, I'd probably say Hattrem did the best out of Kilowattrel & Tinkatink. Her Confusion-controlled Icicle Spear Sendback & Spinning Collision between Ice Spinner & Brutal Swing were pretty good! And I definitely do hope that the opportunity arises for Another Liko vs Grusha to happen again given the next lineup of eps, so I'm on the edge of my seat in hopes that a silver lining of a comeback arises (I'd love it if it turns out that Geeta magically shows up & turns Grusha into an anxious worrywart when he's around her and makes him reconsider what he's done given he's so scared of La Primera) - And all I can say in the end after this episode is that Grusha might have just added another new reason as to why he is one of my least favorite of Paldea Gym Leaders!!

Okay, first of all, it's FlorAgato, not FlorIgato. That typo was driving me nuts during the whole video. Secondly, I am not exactly enraged, or even surprised. I always knew that Liko's chances of beating Grusha at this point were slim at best. However, I had no idea that Grusha would deny her a chance for a rematch. So what happens next? Obviously, the next two episodes will be about the Explorers for a change, but what about Liko's Terastal course? She failed, so will she have to give her Tera Orb back to the Academy? I can't see that happening, but I also can't think of a good reason for her to be allowed to keep it. This is all very interesting. I hope the writers will manage to surprise me next time.

My biggest gripe with this episode is that it highlights how seemingly arbitrary the rules for passing Terrastal Course really are. Each gym leader has their own standards for judging who's allowed to pass or even whether or not someone is allowed to retry. Beyond that, the battle itself was genuinely pretty great.

I’m glad people are feeling enraged at Grusha's choice, because that’s what the episode wants you conclude from this. His character was clearly written to need to lighten up in battles and not just focus on the results (similar to Paul), but even if it wasn’t it’s clear we’re meant to sympathise with Liko on this one.
@basilofgoodwishes41383 ай бұрын
He makes for an excellent foil as someone who failed to live his dream live, but I wonder how Liko can respond to this? I think the Explorers will help her realize that ultimately winning and losing is something that matters not that much, cuz you will always get one and the other. Only persistance matters and getting up, standing tall against the giants of life. That is the way to go. And in the end, if they go this route, it would prove Grusha wrong, because in the end, we can only try, and how we go on our challenges matters more often than winning or losing.
