Dawn/Lucas will have to assume the role of their ancestors, Akari/Rei (which was actually them all along), spending the rest of their lives in the past, get reborn years later, do the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum incident, and get sent to the past to do it all over again.... in modern times they are probably considered missing or dead.

If every country was a region there would be about 200 regions, however we already know some countries like Japan, France and the US are multiple regions, and it's safe to assume that others like Russia, Germany, Brazil, India or Australia could all be multiple regions too. There could be upwards of 500+ regions, but then you also have to consider throughout time, like how Sinnoh was once the Hisui region. That's a lot of different Pokémon that exist. Especially after realizing that each region has an average of 100 Pokémon (500 × 100 = 50,000). Now think about the pokemon that aren't from a region, such as those from the depths of the ocean, or from other planets, or far out in space. Think about fossil pokemon we've yet to discover, or artificial pokemon we've yet to create. There could be millions of Pokémon, and you want a 10 year old to catch them all?

I believe scarlet and violet are Spain AND Portugal, so, some countries could be just a piece of a region, and, for germany, probably 1 or 2 regions max

@@Johia_Mapping_2 okay even if you shave a couple countries down to single regions, even if you knock the number down from 500 to say 250, 250 x 100 = 25,000. That's still a ridiculous amount of Pokémon, and it's not even including regional forms, pokemon from the depths of the ocean/earth, Pokémon from space, pokemon from the past, pokemon from the future or pokemon from other dimensions. There are millions of pokemon out there, there is no way some mortal kid could catch them all.
