Police (and yeah, firefighters), the ones who voluntarily risk their lives on behalf of their communities, knowing those risks beforehand, are at the very top of my social hierarchy. The rest of us all look up to them. And female cops... the sheer balls it takes to do that when you have a built in physical disadvantage.... wow.

You should do recording in your cars again, I miss the good old days where you where driving down the same road for an entire video and all we could see was the left arm. I mean i love what you are doing now but I miss the old car vlogs. Edit: This is not a way of saying you ugly lol I'm just saying its nice to have a change in the background then always having black background with your face.

Regarding this, the best advice I ever got was this: if you get injured, you need to have something to fall back on. Since most departments don't require a degree, you really have the flexibility to do whatever you want as far as what you major in. Just the fact that you have a degree will tickle them.
@BentheBowler

Talking to numerous PA Troopers and local cops they all say it’s pointless to go to school for a criminal justice degree unless you want to teach it, get a degree that will benefit you if police doesn’t work out since not everyone can be a cop.

Great info! The hiring process in Las Vegas is a little bit different. Same basic components but the order is shuffled around. Here is Vegas, they do the written exam and when you pass that you wait about 3-4 months to schedule the oral board. You will do the oral board in the morning and if you pass that you do the physical fitness test that same afternoon. The rest of the process (background investigation, polygraph, medical exam, psych exam) goes quite fast after you get through the oral board and physical fitness test.

I’m going through the process right now, ours was a little different. Granted every department is different. This is how our hiring process works: 1. Civil Service Exam 2. Preliminary board interview 3. Conditional offer of employment 4. Psychological exam 5. Polygraph test 6. Background check 7. Final Oral Board interview 8. Interview with the chief 9. Medical exam 10. Official offer of employment You have helped me so much through my journey, 401! I’m waiting in the parking lot right waiting to go in for my interview with the chief. I’m so excited

Wish I would have found your videos before starting the process. In my state you do the written test and physical on the same day. Then you do the panel interview and if you pass that then you start the background investigation. I couldn’t figure out why I failed two of my panel interviews until I watched your videos. Now I know. Going to be trying again in a few months. Thanks for the info!

That reminds me of my top-secret Q clearance interview. I was part of a large group of new hires tasked with playing with plutonium. We were all being called in one by one for our interrogation. Fortunately I wasn’t in the first group so I had the inside scoop. Apparently most everyone had used cannabis gasp!!!!! The bottom line was yeah I did it and I won’t do it anymore. Cough cough. The reality was they didn’t want you having anything that someone could use against you to make you do something contrary to your commitment. Of course, I would never sell out my country. Then or now. Loyalty has its privileges. Funny, even with all that security clearance, I never really had any useful/sensitive knowledge of classified stuff other than the occasional shipment date. That’s all in the past, those facilities are totally gone.

Smaller departments that are growing, a lot of small cities in Texas are booming right now meaning that if you join their department they will increase the size of the department which means they will add more positions which leads to more leadership billet opportunities. So small town departments aren't bad if they city is projected to grow.

I’m a student at USC and I am majoring in Sociology with a minor in Forensics and Criminality. The issue is, I’ve done adderall many times in the past (I don’t have a prescription). I used to take it to help me study (I take my academics very seriously). I never took it for recreational use. You guys think I’ll be disqualified for this ? Even if I’m honest with the department during the polygraph test? Then again, I do go to USC - one of the top/hardest schools in the state.

I believe yes the criminal justice degrees are a dime a dozen. But I think having a degree in general sticks you above the rest in my opinion. I’m 2 years in a crim degree and it’s very difficult, I would recommend to anyone getting a crim degree go to a school that at the end of the 4 years you have to go through academy.

Hiring process for Ohio State Highway Patrol if anyone is interested. 1. Written/ Physical (Same day) The written test was 40 questions. I believe you needed a 75 (30 out of 40) to move on to the Physical. Physical was A Body Fat check, Push Ups, Set ups and a 1.5 Mile run (Times required vary based on your age and gender) 2. Submitting an eye and hearing exam to OHSP. This needs to be done by you and comes out of your pocket. 3. Polygraph, for me it was graded on the spot however they do send it up to columbus for a final review and approval. 4. BackGround Investigation. You will be assigned a BI and he/she will sit you down and go over anything that raises concerns on your polygraph and ask you some questions regarding your past. 5. Home interview with your BI. Your BI will sit you down with your family or whoever you live with and will go over some stuff about the job and any questions you or your family may have. 6. Receiving approval. One you reach this step you are on the home stretch you are now waiting for an academy class to start and for you to be selected. You will have a orientation day around 4 weeks prior to entering the academy where you will take a psychological test and retake the physical you took in step one, both need to be passed in order to go into the academy. 7. Academy 24-26 weeks in Columbus Ohio, you spend Monday-Friday at the academy and you are released on the weekends. 8. FTO program which is a two Month program where you will spend time with two seperate FTO's.

My dream has always been to become an AZ State Trooper but I'm very worried about losing that opportunity due to my past employment experiences. Or is my background investigator still working on going through my reference list? Also, all my friends recently received an email from my background investigator to fill out a questionnaire about me. I'm so lost... Should I contact my background investigator or just wait?

Like officer401 touched on unfortunately when applying for government jobs we're on government time which can be slow paced. When applying to bigger PD's with a larger pool of applicants the wait time can be even slower. There's really no set time on how long the application process takes especially the background portion. I took my poly in late Feb. and I'm still waiting. I wouldn't panic just yet. If you'd like you could contact your BI to check on your app status, but like officer401 said don't keep contacting them over and over. I know multiple people including my cousin who got hired last year to a big PD who were in the process for 2-3 years. A lot of times no news is good news.

Fransheik Thank you for your response, brother. It definitely put my mind at ease. I just can't help but prepare for the worst, y'know? Thanks again!

Great video as always! I want nothing more than to become a first responder (except maybe military) and there's nothing in the civilian life that interest me as much, but my chances of becoming a first responder are slim (still going to try my best). But yes it sucks...

Thank you sir. I subscribed I'm a little older now but I'm still going to college. I want to do psychology in a minor in forensic science if I can. I'm going to try to be a cop and also go to school but I do see how hard it's going to be

So I have a interview coming up in the next week with my background investigator. I don’t have the money right now to buy an entire business. I bought dress shoes pants and shirt with a tie. Would that be enough? Or is that under dressing

Sorry I recalled the question. I watched a computer/laptop video of yours. Oddly a former friend ask to store items in my storage. Weights and such. I recently discovered an old police computer in my storage and details of cases, arrests, etc. What can I do with it so its properly destroyed or take it to the Precinct I know it came from? The precinct is riddled with dishonest people who take part in an array of legal activities. But I don't want to keep it. So Officer 401....what's the best method of removing it from my posession?
