Stewart Copeland was, in my opinion, the true driving force behind this band, and what made them great. Razor sharp precision and reggae styling. Pure energy. American, I might add...from Virginia.

This song is based on the writings of Hungarian author and philosopher Arthur Koestler. Sting enjoyed Koestler's work, and the album Ghost In The Machine is named after one of his books. Koestler believed that outside influences could destroy our spirit and restrict our thinking. The "spirits" and "ghosts" Koestler wrote about were the innate higher functions that often get lost in the "machine" created by governments and corporations.

I love Police videos - they are soo soo cheap! With the exception of synchronicity II, with the expensive set, the other vids usually just consist of them bopping around singing. And Stewart Copeland always is banging drumsticks in the air, on the case of "So Lonely", on random objects and Japanese people LOL

Ghost In The Machine is one of the greatest albums ever, start to finish. Even the so-called fillers are brilliant. I don't even like rock music but I LOVE this album even to this day, listen to it often. Stewart's always interesting to listen to. OUTSTANDING drummer
I love hearing Stewart Copland talk about playing the drums: "anybody can do this, it's joke!"

The band more completely than ever, despite having only three members. But geniuses are three: Stewart with beats that no one had ever dared to do, technique and perfection, know just what I did. Andy, the guitarist with agility and creativity, the inventor of some effects, and the famous candied notes. And Sting, lead singer with the right voice to the rhythm and the right band, and there's still a show piece on the counter-baixo.A best band in the world in my opinion.

No one "ruined" the re-union. I saw three different shows on that tour and each one was better than the one before. They don't hate each other. As far as comparing them to the Stones, Floyd and Zeppelin - there's no contest. They outweigh all of those bands on sheer talent alone.

@Alejandroenfuego John Bonham certainly thought so as well. Before he died, he made a pilgrimage to check him and the police out backstage. I don't think he met Stewart though. He met Sting who was a bit arrogant. Funnily enough, Bonham took it in stride and told his friend who was with him that night that it was OK. That's the way he was when Zeppelin conquered the world too.

I have a theory that having the kick on the 3 leaves more room for other bass instruments on the one - instead of the kick and bass locking up to create a punchy sound, as in rock etc, the kick and bass leave more room for each other, to create a thicker sound with more definition on the individual instruments, and a more constantly present bottom end

Stewart is way too humble here, basic drums are easy to play, but the level at which he plays drums is very complicated, and he has a special talent, which of course he has also worked hard at. Yes, any dope can play drums, but not just anyone can play the way he can. He's a brilliant drummer, period.
