Kevin and Isobel, During my first year of nursing training in the mid 70s when curly hair perms were in fashion I got told to Get my “hair straightened because it doesn’t look professional for a nurse”. So this is nothing new. At the same however all trainee nurses would not get taken on I’d we were more than 10% above the average body weight! The reason for this was because overweight people can’t move as quickly and the weight also puts added pressure on our sipne and makes back injuries a higher risk given manual handling!! How times have changed! I have seen nurses that would be classed obese and are hardly a good advert for a healthy.ife style.
