Keep Poolbeg chimneys....they guided me South one night many moons ago....a great landmark. Any truth that Wales can be seen from the top on a clear day ?

The Poolbeg Stacks A & B were built as exhaust chimneys for conventional thermal power plants located there. The A stack was used for 2 x 120 Mw units 1 & 2, first commissioned in 1971. The B stack was to be used for 2 x 270 Mw units 3 & 4, both over double the size of the first units 1 & 2. Hence the difference in dimensions of the stacks. It was commissioned in 1978. However on discovery of the Kinsale gas field unit 4 was never built in Poolbeg and instead was built in Aghada County Cork in 1982. The design heights of the stacks was to use High Altitude Dissipation ( HAD ) of the exhaust gases using the south westerly prevailing winds away from Dublin City to minimise pollution. The three units in Poolbeg were originally designed for and used Heavy Fuel Oil firing until 1982 when they were adapted to also fire on natural gas. In my opinion they as protected structures iconic with Dublin should be maintained to the highest standards for as long as possible. They will never be seen again such are the changes in power plant design and renewable generation and are part of our industrial heritage. Having worked in Poolbeg for over 26 years they are part of the family.

rip down the spire (that is an eye sore, with no imagination to it and ironically beat out by the towers). leave the poolbeg towers. turn it into a viewing area up top and regenerate the building bellow into maybe some mix use complex, museum, retail outlets, hospitality outlets (if not in use, im actually unsure if it is or not). and how about then on new years launch the fireworks from there to star the new year as well as down around the ifsc. idk just spit balling

So last century. Memorial to fossil fuels. Knock them down and replace them with an iconic national symbol. Trefoil / shamrock design incorporating very large wind turbines. Paint them green. Blind Boy Boat Club will be your design consultant.

Leave them alone, stop trying to destroy irish history and culture

I doubt the message saying the different heights was due to stricter controls is correct. They're 209 and 207 metres respectively, so you're kinda very dead falling from either.

Bring back the English, we literally can’t be trusted to do anything of significance. What a disgrace to keep and spend money on two eye sores. We have zero ambition.
