The word used for "evolution" when Netero said "humanities infinite potential for evolution" was the same Kanji that is commonly used for "malice" or "evil". Basically it was a little double meaning because humanity always uses their infinite potential for cruel things, like making terrible nuclear weapons of mass destruction. So basically, Netero was saying that Meruem understands nothing about humanities potential for using science for cruelty.

It can also refer to how humans can choose their evolution, while animals and insects tend to be too instinctual to choose their evolution.

@@ccoodd26 I half agree, humans do NOT choose evolution. We throw it away. Evolution is an automatic process that sorts out the best genes for survival through millions of years. Humanity uses technology and society to accomodate for all sorts of people. For example, Stephen Hawkins, a brilliant man that did a lot for humanity. But going strictry by evolution, he would be dead pretty much immediately after being born. But humanity says "FUCK EVOLUTION! Give that man an electrical wheelchair and a device to communicate!" Basically, humans create their own advancements without needing evolution. We use science to screw over evolution because helping disabled people to live and potentially pass on their genes is the OPPOSITE of what evolution wants.

This is the only time I pretty much geek out over just the pure Japanese version of a line, but Netero's last words are so fucking fitting in his character in the original Japanese. The word he uses for 'Evolution' could also mean 'Malice', it's such a cheeky backhanded insult to humanity while at the same time sounding like the proper lip-service someone in his position SHOULD be making.

Fun world building to do with the Miniature Rose. In Greed Island, the Bomber had an ability that let him blow stuff up by touching it, it was called 'Little Flower'. Now looking back on this, it's very likely the Bomber was inspired by the name of the powerful nuclear bomb 'Miniature Rose', when naming his own ability 'Little Flower'. Little stuff like that is one of the reasons why Hunter has such a great world.

But at the same time, its good for him to acknowledge how powerful his opponent is, so that he takes the fight more seriously. This fight has to be one of the most beautifully animated fight ever. Of course I haven't seen every single anime, but the scenes loaded with symbolism in contrast to fast paced action scenes, the whole juxtaposition of Meruem's calm and respectful behavior compared to Netero fighting to see the ant king as an enemy. And despite all of that, both have fun fighting a worthy opponent. At the end, Meruem is still standing while Netero is exhausted on the ground, an easy way to communicate to the audience that this fight is over, the tables have turned, Netero has lost, Meruem was bruised but all in all, he didn't take significant damage. Nobody knew about the bomb in Netero's chest. The face Netero makes on the brink of death is in my opinion the most terrifying face of the series. All of that to fight an opponent that wasn't inherently evil.
