This episode is perfection: the building tension, the use of light, the character dynamics, the voice acting and sound design, all of it!

Regarding what you said about Adora at the end, she does have one major character flaw that will become more central in later seasons, but has already been relevant at this point in the show. I mean, she obviously has multiple flaws, but one specifically that is thematically major.

the entrapdak fans were screaming from joy with the "wheres entrapta i need her" ect but then were sobing and crying at the "who do you think let the princesess in?" i was like no catra whyyyyyyy!!!!

Sometimes it really feels like Catra is the main character, she has an arc (or maybe a weird squiggle?) that spans the whole show and a lot of focus is put on how her actions affect her and her relationships

yeah catra is basically on a suicide mission right now, she doesn't even care for her own safety as long as she gets to "win". she's just running on spite and hurt rn basically. 🥲 almost everyone in this show is just tryna prove their value, they're all on a journey of self-discovery, in one way or another. catra is trying to prove her worth to herself, to shadow weaver, to hordak and even to adora. glimmer is trying to prove her value to her mother. hordak is trying to prove his worth to horde prime. adora is trying to prove her worth as shera (and as a person in general because she ties her own value to shera, to what she can do for others). it's this trauma that gets passed down from person to person. i think that for a kids' show, they did a great job at showing the effects of trauma and abuse on people, because even if this is set in a fantasy world, the psychology of the characters is still very realistic. next season just gets more deep and intense, so that's fun lol. And you're definitely gonna see more introspection from adora in the next seasons, which makes her character more interesting. i am not gonna say more in case you haven't finished the show yet. glad you're enjoying it so far, your reactions are great!

I just wrote some songs about Catra. Some of them contain spoilers though. But when you see Corrupted Catra, Season 3 Episode 6. Then I have a Halloween Catra song based on that. Really, I'd like to hear your thoughts!

I like the relationships and how the characters are driven. No one feels “just evil”, more driven with a history. Shadow Weaver always seemed desperate to prove herself, to her magical superiors and peers, then to Hordak. She had a student who looked up to her and so tried to be a model before it all fell apart. You can now see these traits in her children. Adora and Catra have been desperate to prove themselves to Shadow Weaver. With Adora succeeding more and getting more accolades, especially from Shadow Weaver, it just made Catra more desperate. Adora managed to escape the cycle through not being in as deep and finding friends to pull her out of it. Catra has devolved into a reflection of Shadow Weaver. Shadow Weaver has mellowed out a lot now that she has no one to prove anything anymore, and she’s smart enough to know opening a portal could kill everyone and is against it, plus she’d like to get back at Hordak if given the opportunity. Catra is in too deep. She’s tried to prove herself to Hordak, but really she wants more than nothing else to prove herself to Adora. She wants Adora to see her as not inferior- the problem is, Adora doesn’t. She will do anything at this point. On the flip side, Adora is so desperate to save Catra, it makes Catra feel inferior, despite how skilled she’s gotten- but Adora doesn’t see this. Like Shadow Weaver losing her command, Catra needs the same, especially her current connection with Adora, to have the chance to move forward. She’s tried by raising in rank, by trying to beat Adora, and now she’s going to try to kill Adora. Shadow Weaver now has Glimmer, though, a hybrid superior/student relationship. It’s hard to say how she will behave in this new dynamic, if she will try to prove herself or teach or something new, if she might fall back to her old behaviors. I love this show. These are my two cents; your opinion may vary.
