I was quite put out with their scornful words regarding biblical creationists a few years back. I don't think belief in creationism is a requirement for salvation, but from what I could see, Gungor handled the controversy very poorly. Maybe I'm missing information though. But I was also sickened by the "Mother God" song with Nichole Nordeman they had on one of their albums. It's been a few years since I've listened to them because of these two things, so I guess I shouldn't be so harsh. I have no idea what God's done in their lives since then. But they left a bitter taste in my mouth from those two things, so I pretty much wrote them off until I heard this song.

I understand what you mean and respect your position. On my side, I see the art as semi-independent from the artist himself... and judge more their art for their content and form. I think of very wicked Saul prophesying, Jude quoting the book of Enoch, or Paul suggesting to read certain Greek authors, or even using their words in Acts 17 to refer the Geeks to the Bible. It's a vexed issue... I also had major issues with "Mother of God" or "Now and at the Hour". But I still a fan of their work, I prefer them over certain artists who seemingly have more consistent spiritual lives but still are not as intentional in their art.

Agnes Alencar "Mother of God" was part of The Brilliance's Advent Album (volume A I believe) couple years ago. Even when they don't fully embrace mariology as part their theology they have couple songs with this overtone ("Now and At the Hour" for example). I think this and other instances are what we are talking about here. Michael Gungor (from the Gungor Band) has theology significantly radical in comparison to David.
