The way NIF is used sounds similar to Taiwan where citizen can provide his or her tax number to shop for similar purpose what NIF is for and Taiwan government also has lucky draw for the receipts registered as well.

I walked in, no prior appointment and got the NIF within 5mins. Although making an appointment is required, but I was lucky that they attended to me. Nonetheless, this is my personal experience.

i have sent my passport 6 times and my mother has sent her power of attorney 4 times and they keep asking for it. to be honest i was not impressed with bordr at all. it's been over a month, and they still have not completed the nif and account set up. they refuse to give me any physical phone number to reach them and when we asked that we may need a refund there was no response. there level of incompetence is unbelievable.

I looked into our email exchanges with you and your mother and would like to address your points: Regarding your passport - the Portuguese tax authorities and banks have strict requirements (e.g. no part of the passport can be cut off) for documents. We can only submit your request after receiving documents that satisfy those requirements. Regarding your mother’s signed power of attorney - It appears that we did not receive the documents that she tried to submit until today. We still have not received your signed Power of Attorney. Regarding timeline - based on our records, you placed your order on Dec 26, 2022. Since today is Jan 10, 2023, that is just over 2 weeks ago. Regarding phone support - we use email as our primary communication channel and do not offer phone support. We were closed for the holidays on Dec 26, 2022 and Jan 2, 2023 so I apologize for any delays in communications. Regarding the refund request, I can see that our team did not address your point directly. I’ll work with them to do better in the future. However, regarding the actual wording, it’s not clear that you are asking for a refund. See quote here -> “if i can not get this resolved i will havee to ask for my money back and go through my attorney.” That said, I understand your frustration and we’re more than happy to cancel your order and provide you with a full refund.
