None of this happened in real life. The movie claims that it is based on a true story, but the actual true story is far more interesting and logical. The buyer of the box was a man named Kevin Mannis and there was no exorcism or a girl involved in the original story.

I thought this was a comedy. The thing is, Judaism is actually against exorcisms, it's believed to be going against what the soul actually is, and Judaism actually does not believe in a devil in any way shape or form. Evils believed to be a construct, build off of pain and prejudice. So, in short, a rabbi would never think of exorcism if seeing a little girl screaming, he would say she has trauma and or mental health issues, and the only thing that would seem directly religious related that he would do is ask the parents to pray for her speedy healing, referring to mental health. He may then suggest a good therapist for her to go to to deal with whatever is going on for her, and also talk to the parents about what life was like at home.

Funny to see, how the modern directors try with modern special effects, to achive the atmosfere of original movie "The Exorcist", but fail miserably. The exorcism was a movie based on originality and especially direct by a great director as William Friedkin.
