nobody in the family really understood why i raised my kids (and a good portion of theirs) the way i did. i was raiseing them to be adults. to follow their interests, to expand their world, to chase their dreams, to try. my oldest son retired from the marines, the next two sons both became mechanics, one has gone into teaching auto shop at high school, my daughter manages residents at an enormous apartment complex certified in several different rent assistence programs. yes, i am very proud of them. and i was both mom and dad for a great part of their lives. wouldn't trade it for anything.
