I find it hard to believe that the children of atom started in Megaton, since in just 10 years, the religion goes from a handful of people in the capitol wasteland, to numerous groups through out the commonwealth, and the large group in Farharbor. It seems more likely that the cultists in Megaton are missionaries, or pilgrims, who travelled to megaton after hearing of the bomb through rumors and travelers. As for where the children actually come from, the stronger presence in the Commonwealth and Farharbor, suggests they originate some where in the north east. A fitting place of origin could be the city of Providence in Rhode Island, given the religious undertone of the name, as well as it having been the home of H.P. Love Craft, who seems to be a partial inspiration for some of the ideas behind the children.

I’m a Pastor of 3 years with 7 years of theological training, and I wanted to make a comment on the tribes of Zion appropriating aspects of Mormonism and applying it to their already existing religious system. This is a common phenomenon on the missions field, and is a hotly debated topic between missionaries and resident theologians back home as to whether it is appropriate. The Catholic Portuguese missions to Japan are a really good example of this (Deus-Sama being a conflation of God the Father and I believe the Shinto Sun God, as well as an over-emphasis on the Virgin Mary from the poor peasants in a manner that made the missionaries uncomfortable). All this to say is major props to Obsidian for including this in the game, as it is a very realistic depiction of how a culture with a preexisting religious system would be “converted” when exposed to an alternate belief.

The crazy thing about the Children of Atom in Fallout (4 and 76 at least) is that they actually don’t take radiation damage. They legitimately have a community within the Glowing Sea, and with absolutely no Rad-Away anywhere to be found. No poisoning, no ghoulification, no cancer. They’re literally proven to be true, it’s super freaking cool tbh, makes me wish they were one of the playable factions in 4, where you just get to nuke every other faction “For ATOM!!!” lmao 😂 if someone makes a mod for it, pls make a vid for them so I can play it.

In Far Harbour, you have the option to join their faction, and they explain that not everyone has "Atom's Blessing", so they still stock _some_ radiation medication. There’s the idea that Brights followers didn’t go to space but instead went to the Glow, an area mentioned in the early fallouts which would make more sense as to how they got back
@abaddonanon75733 жыл бұрын
Where can that idea be read? Because it makes kinda sense. If you crunch the numbers in Fallout 3 at the museum exhibit about the astronaut, he couldn't have gone that far in that time. And then there's the fact that WW3 wasn't nuked out with missiles, but mainly with bombers. And this is where things get strange. The V-2 rocket could reach 320 km / 200 mi. It could carry a payload of ca 1 metric ton. Not that sophisticated. But even in 1945 it was enough to carry nukes that wasn't too heavy. *So how come that in 132 years, rocket technology hasn't developed enough to neither have a proper ICBM nuclear war nor go to the moon?* Yeah, the Fallout-universe has far better advances in genetics and AI. And it's really impressive to make rockets that can take you on a jaunt across the continent and return safe in one piece, not gonna lie. And come to think of it. I think that cutsey rockets like this are much more advanced than ours.

@@abaddonanon7573 I'm not entirely certain which video it was but it was on TKs-Mantis channel, he does high quality lore videos like yaboii and I would recommend checking him out. Hope this helps Edit: May have been 'Little-Known Facts about Fallout NV' but idk.

that doesn't really make much sense though because they could probably walk to the glow in about a month maybe less, definitely no need for a rocket

@@diffsnicker4664 Er, did you just say that they could walk from Las Vegas to Boston in a month? :-/ According to Here We Go, that trip by foot takes ca 36 days. (The first solution suggested that you cross Lake Michigan and Eire.) And that's when nothing goes wrong during peacetime. Then a group of humans marching will for some reason always move slower than a single human walking. But the distance Las Vegas - Boston works for shorter space flights. Like the "space jumps" of The Mercury Program, only that the whole rocket is reusable. So it's a kinda cute storey. The Brights flies to The Glow via outer space, have a time of their life. And then returns the same way they came via outer space in time to save the day in Novac! :3

The Hangdogs religion is extremely reminiscent of the Proto-Indo-European people's religion. You were given a puppy when you were a child that you care for by yourself. Then when you reach 10-15, you are taken by one of the Elders with all of the other children to a special place, usually a hut. There, you would probably consume some kinds of psychedelics like poppy or other drugs like primitive weed. Then you would be forced to sacrifice your beloved dog to rid yourself of innocence, and then cook and eat some of the meat, to sort of "become" a dog yourself. There were groups of these "dog people" that roamed Europe and probably served as mercenaries and soldiers until it was time to settle down with a family somewhere. They even had a version of the myth where a domesticated dog is met at a river in the Afterlife, and you have to get past it to get to the good place in the Afterlife. Dan Davis and Crecganford are some amazing channels on the Proto-Indo-Europeans and their culture

The synths basically see Shaun as a god I feel like that’s always overlooked when it comes to the religions of the games, they hold the player to the same godlike status as they do Father in and they also obviously call Shaun, Father not so much from a genetics point of view but from a religious point of view, if you play as a woman they will refer to you as “Mother” upon shaun’s death as a way of continuing their worship of their creator even when their godlike being dies, I guess technically it would be less of a religion and more of a divine ruler but still

@@christiandidonna8808 to add to this and clarify a bit better. The Gen 3 synths and coursers share the genetic material of Shaun and the Character, while calling Shaun father in that regard might be seen as a gesture to their relation to Shaun genetically. What’s odd is that the Gen 2 and Gen 1 synths also refer to Shaun as Father and the character as Father or Mother depending on the gender. Which would seem to me be seen as reverence of a godlike being even though they have no direct connection to Shaun and some are even older than Shaun by existing while the character’s family was still frozen. So what it seems to be is a reverse techno religion. The Brotherhood of Steel really didn’t have a religious vibe until Fallout 4. But Bethesda made a good decision (they’ll do that every now and again) when it came to them in FO4. They feel like a holy order akin to the Teutonic order. Hell they even have a Deus Vult stand in. (Ad Victoriam)

Honestly, I'd say it was there from the start, and that it just took until Bethesda came around to come to the forefront. There was a cut NPC in 1 who even compares the organization to the Knights Templar, and discusses how the BoS is structured like a "pseudo-religious" organization and should "understand our past if we are to recognize our directions for the future". While it wasn't quite as obvious back then (especially as this NPC was indeed cut as I said; I guess they thought people would misunderstand the dialogue and think the BoS are literally descended from the Templars), I think the organization was always supposed to have techno-cult undertones to it.

@@DM-mi4je From what I read, it's my understanding that the names for the songs on Fallout 1 and 2's OST were originally fanmade, and only later became official. Even then though, that's telling; it means that people recognized the religious undertones of the Brotherhood well before Fallout 4 was a thing.

@@CreepyRapper Unpopular opinion, but aside from the atom shop and fallout first bullshit, I genuinely think Fallout 76 is a much more interesting game than Fallout 4. There were more speech/skill checks in my first hour of playing than the entirety of Fallout 4, and the factions seem a little more realistic. I can actually side with raider factions instead of the settlers and it isn't just tacked on like the Nuka-World DLC.

If the Brotherhood of Steel's "religion" consists of believing the Maxson bloodline has a divine right to guide mankind, granted by a higher creator being, could it then be referred to as "Maxsonism" ? It also sounds very similar to Christianity, Judaism, and Islam's general belief that there is (or was) a divine line of prophets who are descended from Abraham, who made the original covenant with a creator deity. Could it also then be said that Maxson is in essence, a prophet? For the BoS anyway.

The interesting part about the tribals from Denver is that their entire lore is based on the development notes from the Van Buren Project; otherwise known as Black Isle’s version of Fallout 3. Long story short, Denver was supposed to be populated by massive numbers of dogs that would roam the wasteland around the metropolitan area.

@@yaboiii6562 to be honest, it was super worth it in the end lol. i used to wonder what happened to minority religions in the US like judaism and mormonism (outside of Utah, maybe religions like islam are more of a better example for US minority religions), i think that topic could come as really interesting if done right. by the by, since you already replied, you ever think about maybe making a discord community? finding a good community to talk about fallout lore is pretty tough and i sure as shit can't for the life of me manage a community by myself but i thought that since you've a growing following online, maybe you'd give it a thought?

One of the next ones I had planned was in the same theme, but on continuing prewar religions so that might also be of interest! I’ve thought of it, although I saw there were quite a few Fallout Discord servers so wasn’t sure if mine might be oversaturating the area.

@@yaboiii6562 I can understand how it looks from your point of view, but honestly it's hard to find a comfortable spot for that stuff from the user's perspective, not a creator's, you know? I can def get the hesitation though i hope you might reconsider eventually. What about Pre-war cultures in the world of Fallout? Like how Chinese culture still exists, evidently, at least in San Francisco. Say, what happened to Native-American cultures after the war, European cultures, things like that! As an example, you can see that the Great Khans are almost completely based off of the Mongols, which (evidently, seeing as you get a book about the Mongols) would suggest that if there's sources of info on the Mongols, there would be on other cultures too, therefore leading to the possibility of there being Wasteland tribes & cultures based off of, say, Celtic cultures. I think it's very interesting, the thought of what happened to old world cultures in the new world :)

Ragnarok isn't/wasn't/won't be the end of the world if I remember correctly, just a battle between the gods and ended/will end with certain ones dying.
@bjarkiengelsson Жыл бұрын
Correct. The fated day where the Gods meet their best, where the wolves break their bonds and catch their prey. When the world is bathed in fire, then ice, when the army of the dead arrive in their ship of horror, and when the frost extinguishes life. Though the Norns have written it so, Man will survive, as will those that dwell below, the Dwarves, like fishes swimming through the stones. Though not all survive. The twilight of the old Gods is upon us - it is time to birth Anew.
