I think the advice in this vid is of legendary quality and may help me level up at an exponential rate. Thanks, Chris!

Once again, Chris Fox's video appears at the right time. I sabotage myself daily and a few minutes ago, I sat here trying to figure out how I can stop this and what tools do I need. I decided to drop the subject for a while. I bring up KZbin and boom!! This video is here. I love Chris Fox!!

Sounds a lot like creating an "anchor" in NLP to trigger a change in state. Good stuff. Thanks for posting.

That's it exactly. It was hearing about NLP from a Tony Robbins speech that first got me to try this =)

Ooooh I love that song! Good advice though I think it’s hard to find that uplifting memory if you’ve been depressed your whole life. I can’t access times when I felt competent or successful. Maybe I had them but I don’t remember. Of course, my brain remembers the times I’ve screwed up or been rejected in vivid detail. For me, the key is staying in the present. But uplifting music and walks are good for that too :) Thank you for the videos! I look forward to them.

You can also try to whenever you're feeling good and competent and successful, like when you're having a wonderful week, write how you're feeling on a notebook. Write how everything is going wonderful and you're loving your week. Whenever you're feeling a little bit more down, go grab that piece of paper and just read it and you'll see that's where you want to be and work towards it! Of course this is just my advice but it works for me!

I'm the same way with photos and I have a photo album that motivates me, for some reason. If I'm feeling down or having a difficult time getting motivated, I flip through a few of the photos of cool places I've visited and wish to visit again in the future. I even started creating lists of small tasks to break up my "work" into bite sized chunks and "check out pics" is thrown in there to help motivate me and make me happy. I rarely get more than ten pictures in before I'm typing away madly and feeling more positive and optimistic.

First, that song is fantastic. Second, thank you for sharing this. I have observed similar responses and reactions in my own life, and I love to hear other people's experiences on it as well. I hope you have an absolutely amazing day and that each day keeps getting better and better. Lots of success to you!

Hi Chris, I don't really know if you're going to read this, but I've dwelled with this (these) questions for a while now: 1. How do the people around you react to the fact that you write scifi? Just because I sometimes feel like people don't take the genre seriously 2. How do YOU convince yourself that there is in fact nothing wrong with this genre? Anyway, I live your videos and I hope you see this. Have a great day!

I regret having told people around me. Because now they're just like "Oh, how's it going with THAT book?"

I console myself with the ginormous pile of money that is earned from my science fiction, and from the hundreds of five star reviews from people who've read my work. Are there haters? Absolutely. I'm told I'm not a real author, usually by people who don't earn a living from their writing like I do. They're welcome to their opinion, but that's on them, not me. How am I okay with it personally? For me it's a non-issue. I write to tell stories, and I want those stories to entertain and teach. Science fiction is the perfect genre to do both, and the fact that some writers consider that beneath them doesn't diminish my enthusiasm at all =D Some people want to write a literary masterpiece that will span the ages, and that's cool too. Personally, I think that kind of mentality is arrogant, and that dismissing genre fiction is too. So it makes it pretty easy to ignore the authors who espouse that crap.

Chris Fox thank you, I've just always struggled with that, but I guess in time I should try making writing one of those things on which the only opinion that should matter is mine
@darkbluematter17536 жыл бұрын
Sci-Fi (and fantasy) is awesome! There are tons of profound, thought-provoking science fiction works that address all kinds of social, moral, and philosophical issues. People who don’t get that just haven’t educated themselves about the genre. Don’t let their ignorance discourage you.

If your friends and family are pooh-poohing science fiction, it might be because they're thinking of Fantasy or Contemporary Literature that has a thinly scientific coat of paint on it.

amazing how powerful our brains are. Self talk is so important. It's fun to play around with this. Yesterday, I was thinking about unsubscribing from a few channels that deal with negative issues.

I don't watch or listen to the news anymore for this reason. I've tailored my whole world to remove the constant blast of negativity and wow does it make a difference.

Awesome video, Chris. You’ve really helped reinforce what I’ve been working on with my own thought loops/habits. I’m adding music to my positivity arsenal. Don’t know if you’ve watched Mel Robbins’s Ted Talk where she shares her 5-4-3-2-1 method to interrupt negative thought loops and to re-engage the prefrontal cortex. It’s great for stopping those really bad days where you can’t seem to find a way out of the negative spiral. Thanks for the great vid 🙂

I love Top of the World by Imagine Dragons! Another song I've taken a liking to of late is Strong by JekK, the title release of their new release over at Jamendo. A good inspiring gets you in the mindset to overcome obstacles that you face. We should start compiling these songs into a list and create a playlist for it.

This is a great inspirational video, Chris! This falls right in line with some of the books I've been reading lately (listed below for those who might be interested). It's so important to keep a positive outlook and continue thinking optimistic thoughts. Books with a similar message: "The Slight Edge" by Jeff Olson "The Happiness Advantage" by Shawn Achor "Awaken the Giant Within" by Tony Robbins "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill

I've read all of those, and will second the recommendations. Especially for Think and Grow Rich!

I cant do the memory thing because I have very bad recall. My brain is more suited to archival knowledge and memories are never in any detail. I just know things that have happened in my past so it makes the association thing you were saying quite hard if not impossible if I cant remember the emotions I had. Do you have any other things I could try?

How do you deal with nostalgia in this context? Whenever I think of "good ol' times" I start ruminating more, so it seems having a specific song that encapsulates this, would make things worse. I'm assuming your opinion differs on this though.
@ChrisFoxWrites6 жыл бұрын
Whenever I hear the song Freshmen by Verve Pipe I'm overcome by a wave of nostalgia. I remember great times with old friends, some of whom are no longer with us. And that's bittersweet. It hurts, but in a good way if that makes sense. I'd never select a song like that as my happy song, though I do listen to it when I'm writing a scene where nostalgia is useful. I'd keep looking for another one =)
