It's probably because the British navy was aiming higher to kill the soldiers rather to sink the ship, because they need the kill to be confirmed, ONLY a few men knew how to swim in the 1800's (which is extremely rare), so in this case, there is a slim chance the Danish soldiers could survive the sinking.

grapeshot was used to kill enemy ship personnel, not sink ships!! plus, with the brig-sloop men's final voicelines, one of them shouted that we hit their gunpowder storage with amazing luck, considering we're using round shot.

Grapeshot was standard issue to ships because it was extremely powerful to fight with, canister shot was used ONLY to fight enemies on land because it would be difficult to put a hole in a ship with canister

Grapeshot was actually used to take care of lines of Infantrymen in larger quantities and open areas (Such as in The Battle Of Waterloo in the Napoleonic Wars), whereas Canisher shot served the same purpose but on more concentrated and crowded areas, mostly to take care of Skirmishers and Light Infantry (Such as in The Battle Of Camden in the American Revolution).

The ship has a total 1000hp Round shot takes 5 shots because it only deals 200. (Modified damage real round shot does 800) Grape shot fires 12 balls, each doing 120. Canister shot fires 36 balls, each doing 100 dmg. Both of these do well over 1k. An unedited round shot would actually 1 shot the sloop if you shot both marines. The developer picked roundshot because small ferry boats fought mostly ships with Roundshot because it is meant to take down fortifications, in this case, a ship.

I think this is because the boat's HP is based on the amount of times it's hit by the cannon's shots so if it's hit with something like Grapeshots or Canistershots it counts every single pellet that hits it as an individual shot

Idk, but the devs probably set the sloop to take 200 from every cannon projectile. Roundshot normally does 800, but in this fight it only does 200. If it was a 75% resistance then Grape shot would deal less then 400 damage, however Grape shot 1 shot the sloop, and it fires 12 balls.
