Mental Ray had it in the early 2000's.... Arnold render has had it for many years too (probably others too but those are the ones I know for sure). This was one of the reasons I didn't use Blender in the past. But it's good to see Blender maturing into a good tool now

Blender actaully had is 15 years ago before cycles was created. The creator of cycles was also one of the lead devs of Arnold at Solidangle before Autodesk bought it. The biggest reason why Blender didn't have it is because the creator of cycles was against it.

Thanks hunter. Love your tutorials I’m a member of your course and at a fair way through the wine bottle course just drowning in client work so on hold at the min. Light linking looks ace. I think it needs careful usage though as labels and lights that don’t correspond with bottles will end up looking fake. That one of the reasons I love blender is for making sure might highlights and shading match correctly on my client renders. It’s a balancing act I think. A greatly label that doesn’t match the bottle on a greatly lit bottle is all in all a bit of a fail for me. Still a very valuable tool. Keep up the great work. T. 😊

Yes I can't agree more. It has been great for adding small highlights that would look unappealing in a product. I will be experimenting with this to learn how to best utilise for my lighting workflow. Thanks for all the support.

Thanks for the in-depth intro. For some reason, light linking is not showing up in the 4.0 Alpha version I downloaded using Blender Launcher. The same goes for the beta and alpha versions of 3.6. Although I did get it to somewhat work in the experimental light linking branch of 3.6 that was released earlier.

I think it isn't any different in the 3.6 version. Hopefully, it gets released into Beta or a stable version soon. Thanks for watching

The translucent plane can be avoided just by adding a gradient texture direct into the light source, this way the render time shall reduce its duration and the permormance in the viewport certainly increase a lil bit too.

I have since implemented this into my workflow. It also gives you all the options of the light like spread.

Yes it will have changed since then and may not be working. Under Object Properties > Shading > Light linking. I don't think my old file will work.

@@KoshNaranick Make sure the light is selected. The Object Properties in adaptive depending on what object is selected.

Good info in there, but man it needs to be cut down short to the essentials. Most of the video is watching someone create their project with every minutia changes and details, and it's really unnecessary! It took literally 12 minutes to get to light linking!!
