Nilofer Merchant visited Google's main campus to discuss her latest book, "The Power of Onlyness." Nilofer, named by Thinkers50 as the #1 person most likely to influence the future of management, defines "onlyness" as "that spot in the world only you stand in, a function of your distinct history and experiences, visions and hopes.” The book can be seen as a toolkit to unlocking the capacity of each of us
Nilofer Merchant has gone from admin to CEO to Corporate Director of a NASDAQ-traded company along her 20-year career. Her latest book, The Power of Onlyness, was recently published by Penguin Random House and selected as a Financial Times Business Book of the Month.

I may have missed it but was the question of monetary compensation for having the break through idea brought up? In my experience this is one of the main causes for silence from people when ideas are asked for. How will they be fairly compensated? In most instances I think they are not, the idea is taken and somewhat reshaped and the originator is forgotten. Especially true of employees on the lower end of the pay scale. Does the guy or gal that works on the loading dock get compensated when they solve a multimillion dollar problem of double shipping? Another point I am curious about is why people that work from a computer are still going to a place of work if they can be anywhere in the world and get their job accomplished. Brick and mortar places of employment seem to be more and more a throw back to prehistory - ~1995.

Relationship = Common Goals & Objectives. I can completely relate to one’s family shunning you because you will not defend your culture’s traditions. (Church Of England - 29 years ago). That method of non-confrontational emotional blackmail, meant to defend our traditions, is in my mind hastening their demise, when people blame, science, computing etc, I think they obviate…… I’m of the view, the default mental position/stance for humans is ‘Omni-Math’, yes we all have strengths & weaknesses, but in essence humanities greatest asset is ‘Versatility’ both group & individual level.
