‘Hummels cooking in the attic!’ Your humor gets right to the core of the matter. LOL. I will be sharing your videos with my husband to get him started down the declutter path. I’ve been at it on-and-off for several months (actually longer 😉) but I really want him on board and I think he will receive your straight-forward approach.

Thank you for your videos and encouragement. I loved your definition of “Junk” - It reminds me of the word “weeds in a garden”. A weed is a plant you don’t want

"Clean" and "Clear"...2 good words. As in "clear off the counter, clear off the table top" . and "clean up the basement" , "clean up the bedroom". Clean and clear are positive words that motive the whole family, in a much more healthy, kind way.

I like "clear" the best. I heard waaaay too much "clean your room," while growing up. My room was chaotic. So was the household. Maybe it was uncomfortable for my mother, to see the evidence of that chaos, reflected in my room.

LOL Beyond the yogurt date. Ed, I have said the same thing "it is already bad when you buy it". Same holds true for sour cream.

I could so relate to that scene in A Beautiful Mind when they discover the hidden shack where the main character had thousands of notes posted on all the walls!🤣 I am the sticky note queen.

I listen every week and don't comment often (I'm usually listening at work and it's not easy to comment). Just wanted to chime in with something very important - that Goldfish are great the way they are, so no need to change them to the flavor blasted variety. Sorry, Ed! 😆

This post is regarding the lady with the dancing videos she kept. If she doesn't want other people to see them, and just have them for herself, she could put them on youtube but make it private so only she can see them.

All really GREAT info and discussion! Thanks for this one. As far as the dancer goes, it reminds me of parents who have a hard time transitioning to the empty nest or a person who loses a partner who was their world. It's never easy and often difficult to find a new meaning to one's life. Wishing her well!

I have a friend who wrote the obit for her Mom. She was upset when she caught that she left her Daddy out. Fortunately someone caught this before it went to funeral home. Her Daddy took it in stride and was able to laugh at it.

My oldest daughter's social security card was stolen when she was 5 months old. I have tried and tried to get another copy of it but was always denied, because I never wrote down the original number before it was stolen. I still do not know her social security number and she will be 12 this year. I have not seen her in all that time because it was my ex husband and his mother who stole the documentation as well as my daughter. I was also replaced as a mother. End parental alienation. By the way, they did the same with her birth certificate. They stole that too and by god's grace I was able to get another copy years later. It doesn't change the fact that some people will go to excessive lengths to try to erase a parent from a child's life, even by doing something extremely illegal like stealing documentation straight from a mother's briefcase or wallet. What I'm trying to say is, now there is no way to leave her in my will, there is no way to leave her anything. There is no way to put her in trust. I have to have her social security number to put her in paperwork for my job to leave her money when I die (retirement benefits). These are the lengths people go to when they alienate parents and erase parents from a child's life. My question is why? Who else is going through this?

There's one guy whose blog I stumble across occasionally, who "collects" humorous obituaries, and shares them with the rest of us. I love those, and will see if I can write my own, too. I'm a long time genealogist, and agree that obituaries are incredibly important to genealogists. Another thing you might want to consider doing is writing, on the back of family pictures, who it is that appears in the picture (full names, please, not just Aunt Mary), and the date or approximate date, at least.

I try to use the word "items" referencing our possessions. It takes out the context and baggage usually connected to words like "sentimental" or "junk", or even "stuff." No offense to your business name but I'm weary of the words "clutter" and "declutter." There seems to be a judgmental aspect to those words - AND they also seem to be "trendy." My foundational motivation for "simplifying" or downsizing is, I do NOT want to pack these items and put them onto the truck when the inevitable move house time arrives.

As always, it depends on whether someone has room for six months or a year's supply of food. Also, will that person actually rotate the stock so older supplies get used before expiration? I've made a conscious choice to cut down on how much to keep on hand.
