I’m a 61 yo Swiftie. My daughter and I have been fans since the beginning. She is such a talented and morally grounded individual. We will always love her even when/ /if she stops making music. I likely won’t be able to afford a ticket to her concert, but I’ll always be there in spirit.

I don’t think she’s the activist people think she is. The way she threatened legal action against a small blogger for saying she should denounce white supremacy in 2017 rather than threaten the Daily Stormer, a literal major white supremacist publication insisting she shared their beliefs, was super creepy. And then she said nothing when fans went in on Antonia Gentry (Ginny from Ginny and Georgia) with racist hate as a direct result of a tweet that she made calling the show out for sexism. Her misunderstanding with Nicki Minaj over representation of black artists in music awards was extremely tone deaf, and she never rectified her insertion of herself in a conversation that had nothing to do with slighting her, even when Nicki Minaj invited her to join the discourse in a productive way. When she speaks up it’s almost always self-serving, yet she pretends it’s for feminism. This was more likely just tone deafness than something done with ill intent, but the music video for Wildest Dreams reads as a romanticization of colonialism. She never responded to these criticisms but snaps at the faintest whisper of someone saying she dates too many guys or doesn’t write all of her own music. She has a racial blindspot for sure, and her “feminism” only protects her own interests (which is to say that it isn’t feminism at all).

I'd heard Taylor's music and liked it but really never gave her a second thought till my granddaughter played her non stop when I would give her rides here and there. She started telling me of the stories and what the songs were about. As my granddaughter and I hung out a bit more, Taylor came to the forefront of my attention as well as my growing love for her work. I get lost in her music and my granddaughter (Bella) and I couldn't be closer.
