This is brilliant for a few reasons and it's possibly one of the best concepts/deals in Shark Tank history. Even though they're not natural born public speakers, these guys are clearly extremely intelligent - the science behind the product but also the vision and innovation to translate it to a useable product displays this. Secondly, you can see makes engagement as soon as they start presenting. He's not laughing or cracking jokes. From the get-go he sees the potential in this product and starts running numbers in his head. I honestly think the other Sharks see how serious Mark is on this product and don't even bother making offers because in reality if marks wants something - he will get it. They're combined net worth of $500mil (give or tak) is spare change compared to Mark's $5.2 billion. Finally, and this may be an ignorant and assumptive statement, but the reason Mark offers what would seem a somewhat ambitious offer is because he sees the genuine value of this product - not only dollar wise but innovation wise. And as a result instead of investing nominal amounts into projects that he wont even notice going into his bank account he thinks this could be a game changer. Again, I'm just assuming but as someone who has had some degree of success in investing in different markets over 25 years (much, much less than the Sharks of course) I see this approach often. A simple start with an ambitious offer so even after negotiation you'll still be left with an advantageous deal, assuming they are serious about your investment.

1st: COMPETITOR This products needs an isobutane stove to work. There's already BIOLITE that exists and the cool thing is that it does NOT need any isobutane. You simply add wood and that's it! Besides that BioLite won't lose efficiency when heat goes up while that GADGET does. BioLite is well established and these guys will have a hard time to gain any market share. 2nd: REALITY CHECK... That gadget may be useful only to a limited audience. Cellphone batteries are better and better and we all have power packs. Their gadget will recharge ONLY when cooking. Do you see anyone assembling the stove, then using water this just to recharge their phone when you can simply take your power pack and recharge anything you want. 3rd BiOLIte vs that GADGET With BioLite you only need wood to make it work. You can find wood anywhere when camping (90% of the time). The gadget needs isobutane..no gas, no charging. 4nd BAD DESIGN!!!! The connector is right on the side of the pot. DOH!!!! This means: a) you can't use it over a camp fire b) there is a good chance that it'll melt even with the isobutane stove 3) you plug the USB cable vertical from top to bottom. The cable will create a tension on the connector and... 5th EMERGING MARKET.. THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES Really? LOL These guys have no clue what this is all about. Not the kids, not the "sharks". It has been proven a thousand times over the past that high technologies FAIL in these countries. Why? because they break then they discard it. Now, ALL humanitarian organizations teaches locals how to do things with what they have on hands. Like to dig a well properly, to make a stove and use wood and or cows ding as a fuel. They also use BioLite since it works with wood! So this gadget has ZERO chance to perform there.
