This was actually very helpful. I myself am a struggling creator and have fallen prey to seeking out these KZbinrs help, specifically Nick Nimmin. Watching your video helped me realize that I need to be more confident in what I create and to not let the numbers get in the way of creativity. So thank you!

Someone needed to say it. The sad part is the gurus real goal is to string you along. Even if you buy a course they won't be done there. KZbin is a business. KZbin consultants run businesses. You either want to make money, or you don't. I can sympathize with your position in some regard, but this is an L take. Of course success is a numbers game. Statistically only a small amount of creators will be successful, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try. What you're failing to consider here is the differences in niches. Some creators have more marketing ability for certain kinds of products at just 10k subs, or even 5k subs depending on their demographics and other factors. Lots of things KZbin consultants teach can be utilized in those cases. This video sounds like an angry rant from someone who has been failing at KZbin for a long time, and wants something impossible the platform doesn't offer. Success without hard work. It took me 12 fucking years to get a Gold Playbutton dude. 12 years. That's a long time to work on something, but now it's my job and it was worth all the struggles. Think, say, do what you want, but KZbin isn't going to change for you or anyone else. It is what it is. You don't have to like it, but you either play the game, or you don't. Nothing else will change.

So my own personal opinion is an L take? Lol I'm not quitting youtube, and I know that youtube is this massive beast that won't bend to my every wish like obviously. @@MasterEth That's how free markets work. You can choose to engage with people who have knowledge about increasing revenue types/streams, or you can choose not to. No one is putting a gun to your head. It isn't predatory. They aren't hiding some secret motive. Of course they need to make money to grow their own business and capitalize on the market. This is common sense. It's fine you don't like it. It's fine you won't engage with it. Those are your choices. As a consumer you have the purchasing power. This is like business 101 homie. Not rocket science. All this video does is prey on people's frustration with a system they need more time to learn about to understand. Either treat KZbin like a job, or don't. One raises the odds of success, and the other doesn't. Simple.

I don't disagree with your take on how hard it takes to succeed on KZbin but how many (if any) of the gurus that are the subject of this video will mention that it may take you 12 years to succeed? None of them as I've watched every one of them. They all use the same tactic. Get people all excited about doing KZbin full time and then sucker them into buying a course. If they were a little more transparent about the reality of making it on KZbin, I'd give them a pass. But some of these clowns need a reality check for exploiting people (especially during a poor economy)

Ok first. Full transparency, I bought think media book and Derral Eves book. And I’m going to Vidsummit but won a ticket. Now my thoughts. I get what you are saying. But you don’t HAVE to buy a course. I’m on clubhouse and have listened to some of these “content creator coaches” speak and haven’t spent a dime. One you didn’t mention, I could text or call in a heart beat. For free. Have I been successful? Almost two years in and doing quite well. What I find hugely problematic about this video is exactly what you accused KZbin channel coaches of doing...? You did yourself. You used their footage. Put them in your thumbnail. Called them out without ever reaching out and asking to speak with them for their input. All in the hopes of making a video that people would click and watch for your own edification. Congratulations. You are literally the predatory creator you purported every channel coach to be. Start with the real goal of helping other creators over a very long period of time and bring back folks who can attest to how you've helped them quit their jobs, start a new career and find success on the platform. Then make that video from a place of positivity, not negativity just for views❤

Normally I make videos about positive subjects, this is a one-off thing for me, mostly cuz I saw a problem with the advice channel youtube ecosystem. I wouldn't say they're a scam. I think KZbin advice channels are great for beginners who overly romanticize the artistry side of KZbin (like me), and neglect the business aspect of starting a channel. I for sure took their advice in the beginning and it's helped. There comes a point though where you have to take their basic framework and bring back your "artist" side, otherwise you get burned out and lose passion. I will say, a lot of them do get the "scammer" reputation because they will sometimes say the same things online con-artists say. They'll say, "COLLEGE IS A SCAM" and then give a list of side hustles you should do instead, one being to invest in yourself...conveniently with their course. Like bro I think the loan system is predatory too but, just tell them to go to community college then lol. Sidenote: I'm currently in a business development phase and it sucks LOL. Hoping to transition back into the art phase soon!
@MasterEth
@MasterEth 2 жыл бұрын
Oh hey, I remember you back when you were pychirl! Been awhile! I think it's personally a more complicated problem then just a simple "scam", i think the whole problem with this is the fact that you can't promise someone they can blow up if you follow these people's advice, like sure the quality of content matters and how you market it matters, but after a certain point with these channels, you can tell that all this advice, sure it may help a little, but getting to Mr. Beast levels of sure is nearly impossible at this point.
@CoconutPete

The sad thing is the gurus are dependent on their audience failing. If their advice worked, they'd be broke. Some of the advice is helpful, but the important thing is anyone listening needs to become a fledgling and fly from the nest and stop depending on the crutch of the youtube advice channels. It's very easy to fall into the trap of thinking you are making progress because you're all caught up with the latest video from the 97,543 advice channels 🤣The best teacher is to simply make videos, upload, see what works and what doesn't work... then readjust your strategy if necessary.

I disagree. The difference between getting the information for free and paying for it is how it saves time. Courses get you from A to Z in the time it takes you to get from A to C. If you value your time, you’ll buy from a authority that you’ve learned to trust. It’s hard to know what you don’t know, which makes it difficult to look for what is relevant in the free stuff. But courses can take you step by step through the common things all the most successful KZbin Channels do: value proposition, origin story, building your tribe, sacred words, best practices in designing a header, about page and trailer video etc. It probably takes 100 hours of consuming free stuff to only get 80% out of what a course can do in a quarter of the time.

I thought this was an interesting video that successfully employes a lot of the click bait strategies that it then tries to decry in order to generate outrage clicks (so, mission accomplished!) As someone who is amenable to the overall message (e.g., wary of hustle culture, etc.,) I still thought that the specific examples used were not the best. While there are some advice channels that meet a lot more of the negative traits discussed in this video, I think many of the examples here don't make sense. (E.g., Roberto Blake in particular is consistently talking about the challenge and difficulty, and about setting realistic expectations given a variety of variables. He consistently differentiates between the top "echelon" of personality-based creators and the idea of a "creator middle class" and the differences between those -- consistently differentiates between the level of effort required for utility-based channels vs entertainment-based channels, etc.. So, most of these advice channels are not saying, "You can be MrBeast guaranteed if you follow these steps." There's a lot of nuance that is being elided in this video.) I think that the crux of the argument is not: "are there principles, mindsets, practices, etc., that guarantee KZbin success?" I think it's something different -- it's something more like, "Even if these things do not guarantee success, are there principles, mindset, practices, etc., that are held in common among channels that are successful?" where we can say that the advice channels believe there are such. This is a more nuanced argument to make and therefore a more nuanced argument to counter. A different way of putting it is by comparing what the alternatives imply. So, if we oversimplify the question to something like, "is success on youtube about luck or skill?" then the implications of these options is something like: if it's skill, that doesn't mean that skill always guarantees success, just that it is a prerequisite or commonality. If it's luck, then this is more fatalistic...it's a way of saying that there isn't anything anyone can do to prepare or prime the way for success, and there isn't anything we can draw in analyzing "successful channels" because nothing they *did* contributed to that. Putting it in another way, KZbin themselves keep saying "the algorithm is the audience" whereas the popular alternative belief is that the algorithm is a black box that creates winners and losers. If the former is true, then the question becomes: "what are the sorts of traits that appeal to an audience?" If the latter is true, then again, it's more fatalistic about how to appeal to a black box than how to appeal to human beings. If the former is true, then the answer of how to appeal to the audience may very well be things we don't like: e.g., humans respond to insecurity, so preying upon insecurity is a repeatable skill/technique one can employ. Voila! all of a sudden it's not "random" or "luck". The advice channels simply aren't taking that fatalistic angle. They may err in the other way...assuming too much is due to the agency and creator's control, but this shouldn't be confused with the stronger argument that success is guaranteed if x, y, and z are followed.

Do you know what you'll never see? Someone who is succeeding on KZbin (or life) complaining in the manner you are. It's always people struggling who complain. Always. Looking at the channels leaving comments here that agree with you, also failing. Failing to do the very basics of what these guys teach. No one is forcing you to watch any of their videos. No one is forcing you to buy anything they sell. Yet, here you are complaining about both. Perhaps if you actually took their advice, you would do better. Looking at your channel, you're putting in minimum effort and hardly doing anything these guys teach. It's your lack of understanding that is the problem here. Nothing else. Every commenter here agreeing with you will also be struggling, because they also don't understand. NO ONE with a half way decent channel will comment here and agree with you. They will all be failures in their own way, ignoring even the basic best practices recommended by KZbin themselves. Last, welcome to being an adult and almost understanding how the free market works. Adults have to make a living. You don't want to work for free, why do you expect KZbin educators (or anyone else) to work for free? You think like a child. Perhaps you still live at home with your parents? Adults who are out there making their own way in life know better.

Perhaps stop complaining about this guys and go back in with a new focus to truly understand what they are teaching. You don't need to pay for anything, there's so much gold in what some of these channels way. However, there are some scammy types out there, but they are not the ones speaking at events and meeting with KZbin for hands on info. You have to know where to get the info and where to avoid.

I've thought about this numerous times and it's definitely fair game to hear the customer side of the story for a change. We are bombarded with hundreds of "You can make it on KZbin!" videos but rarely if ever get the cold hard truth on the realities. Examples include the fantasy of how much YT actually pays once you hit 1k/4k vs reality, people stealing content, does YT favor younger/"beautiful" creators that are more appealing to brands, etc. It's a healthy debate.

This is a fascinating video that's driving an intriguing debate. That said, the answer should be easy to determine. How about running a simple survey on your community tab. I'd do it on mine, but I'm still 50 subs shy of having a community tab. Ask 4 simple questions. For those with KZbin channels > 1 year old: 1. How many subs did you have 1 year ago? 2. Did you pay for a course since then? 3. If yes, how many subs do you have today (enter N/A, if no)? 4. If no, how many subs do you have today? If you have more than about 60 respondents (at least 30 for questions 3 and 4), you can use the paid for course boolean variable to run a regression analysis to see if it matters. Easy peasy.

@@MasterEth It won't capture everything (for instance, some people don't apply what they learn after the course, so there will be some issues). That said, you could triangulate with other data in the survey, such as: if you took a course, did you apply it to your channel? Again, this will have problems. As in any endeavor, there will always be people who produce content that really does help people and there will be predatory charlatans, so you might need to limit your survey to the set of KZbinrs in the video and then ask people to self-report which one they used. And of course, you will have people who will lie. So, this wouldn't be the most academic of surveys.

Polling people with struggling channels isn't how you collect data. Again, you should know this.

This is a great video. Well done 👍🏽 In 4 hours it’s already out performed your most recent videos and likely due to the comments, controversy, thumbnail and topic. This is a factor that helped many creators blow up, but they didn’t do it with just one video, so they then realized they had to keep doing these type of videos to thrive. That’s Catherine Manning’s story. She wasn’t a KZbin advice channel until her video about getting monetized blew her up. Surprised you only went after male YT advice creators. In my experience, the female advice creators are much more predatory. They even cry on camera for view/engagement increases. What you did here is called “social hacking”. Paddy Galloway covered this on his video about how Airrack blew up. There IS a method for titling, and niches that perform better than others in general. If you’re on YT, it’s KZbin advice. If you’re on IG, it’s IG advice. Show me an “advice” channel that has another channel that isn’t about that platform and I’ll listen. They exist. Patt Flynn has many, Roberto also has a faceless channel, but I can’t speak for the others. I see nothing wrong with building a business on a platform, but I agree that if the “content” isn’t there, it’s predatory. Again, that’s why I shook my head that you chose these particular creators because these aren’t the ones scamming people. The predators you are looking for are out there and I could easily list 10. None of them are in this video though. Truth is, if you’d have done this and targeted the real predators, you wouldn’t have been able to leverage the “social hacking” factor. So kudos to you for the work you put in. My challenge to you: buy a few courses and report back with your thoughts. 👊🏽

Catherine manning was originally on the list but she seemed more like a vlogger to me lol I wanted to talk from my personal experience, and I also didn't want to talk about something that I didn't know about it. I could easily make this a series since yes obviously there are THOUSANDS of advice channels that don't really help all the much, trust me, I've watched them for years. I've considered actually buying the courses, but I don't have hundreds of dollars to spend on something like that. Also many people have taken courses like that, only to come back with nothing in return, because youtube is very complicated and not easy to understand. Also I had no clue about "social hacking", I just wanted to speak on a matter I was concerned about it, since no one else was speaking on the matter

"You know in these days with how SATURATED the market is, we move on to find NEW THINGS, so being UNIQUE, brings UNIQUE PEOPLE and they want to grow with you, so put YOUR content into those peoples face, get them to become your loudest cheerleader" Did I say anything of use, or a bunch of nonsense only designed to make you fill in the blanks like a mad-lib

I really can't stand the advice channels who don't just be 100% honest and admit KZbin success is exactly like the lottery (or fertilizing an egg 😂)...or winning the lottery and doing a Mr beast. While I'm here talking about Mr beast. There's a video he made recently about surviving a plane crash and sorry but is this really what people consider content. After he dropped the plane in the intro the content was just a few of the top creators putting minimal effort into "surviving on a deserted island" and making what could have been an extremely interesting concept.

That's my thing, they always tow the line on the "advice" they give just to get people the want of something more which is why people buy their courses. Like he made unique content, even tho it was mostly based on money so I didn't care for it, but his newer era he's in with actually creating these huge sets is actually quite impressive, even tho it's not content I would personally watch. amen! If KZbin were so easy, they would be focusing on a regular channel instead of luring people into their funnel so they can sell courses. It's the same old same old.... more profitable to sell shovels than it is to dig for gold. I've been on the Internet since the 90's and can tell you one thing for sure. The more "gurus" there are out there selling courses the more saturated a market is and on top of that the more unlikely it will be to succeed with a platform/system. It really annoys me when these people use MrBeast as an example... selling the fantasy that you can strike it rich overnight. They never mention that it took years and hundreds of videos for MrBeast to gain momentum, but more importantly is the TIMING of when MrBeast started. He started before KZbin blew up.... if he followed the same path now he might not make it.

I simply have to defend Film Booth. Ed is different from the rest. He eats and sleeps KZbin research and ideas. And I know this because I have been working on his channel now for ten weeks. You have no idea how many hours, days, weeks we put into our video creations, and having just seen 20 students complete his 10 week course I know they would vouch for him too. He is on the Discord full time with the students, offering business advice, thumbnail feedback, title observations, and genuinely being there for anyone that took the course. He is providing so much valuable free content on the channel, if followed properly will help to grow your channel without spending a penny. But the paid course is where you go if you're serious about KZbin as a business. Having witnessed the ten week course, it really is for the one's who want to make this a real career, and not just a hobby with a little bit of ad revenue. I won't be going in to any detail from the course as that simply is not fair, but you have to know it is more than just making money for the business. At least you gave him credit for being entertaining, this is something we really try to push in each video, and one of the reasons I am now part of the team. But I can't give any real feedback on the other creators, but I know Nick Nimmin and Think Media have been around since before KZbin was a serious thing and they deserve to sell their advice they have gathered from over the years. But the fact you didn't even know that Vid IQ was a plugin for KZbin channels which costs a monthly fee just makes this whole video feel like you haven't done your research and have no proof that the courses are not worth any investment. You want a success story? All you have to do is watch Film Booth's latest video!

@@MasterEth Why would the course that he has built from scratch with his own research time and effort which takes 10 weeks to complete with student assignments be given away for free. As mentioned, you can learn a lot by just watching the channel where all the free advice is and it will get you far, but if you are 'serious' you would pay for more deep advice and knowledge. Your expectation for free stuff would put a lot of people out of business. You can learn a lot of exercises on KZbin for free, but you wont get a personal trainer offering one on one guidance for free would you. I think we all know you're just frustrated with your own channel and you and your friends are just lashing out because it hasn't worked out for you. KZbin is one of the hardest jobs to make it a career, we all know that, and it is made clear from all these advice channels that you should NOT be doing it for a get rich quick scheme. But every channel has the potential to become big, it may take a decade, but if you really want it to happen then you'd probably want to invest in help no?

I disagree with you, I taught a lot of things from these channels specially vidiq and filmbooth. I have one piece of advice for you. If you don't get anything out of their content, you can learn a lot of things by following their techniques like their thumbnail design, the way that they send viewers to the next videos(end screens), using viral topics to grow, etc... to grow your youtube channel, and no need to buy their paid course if you think they are a scam! Although, if you pay attention to their content, you will also find some good free advice as well. You can check their videos comments to see how many people benefited from these videos and got results! It is okay if they have paid courses as most of them are in this business for several years and they are not forced to publish every skill that they gained as free! Don't be unfair! I hope your intention for making this video was not about making a drama and getting a lot of views based on false disclosure!
