So would everyone else. OK. Will Bob's name still be on the outside of the studio, or are they just going to forget he was even there? As they said, the current version with Bob as host was filmed in 1972. That was the same year I was born.

Yes! They are overdue to go back to regular seating. The 'groupings' are so 2 years ago! ( Not that they are drawing at random, of course. It's always been carefully handpicked contestants, pre-approved. It's just that the color of the show has been ever darkening).

A huge shout out to the 50s-60s host, Bill Cullen, who started it all; another to Dennis James. James was Mark Goodson's original choice to host the show we know today; which was only suppose to be a 30 minute, once a week, show. CBS loved it and wanted a 5× week daytime show and insisted on Barker for it. James was with this nighttime version from 1972-1977, his retirement.
@chrischeshire6528

Dennis James hosted a game show called "PDQ" which I would watch after school. And he was fired from the night time Price because during the mountain climbing game the mountain climber fell and he said "Friz fell off the mountain." Well , as you may know, Friz was Janice Pennington's husband who was a champion mountain climber. And he may have been a spy for the U. S. He went missing and she was told me probably died while climbing. Hearing James say that caused her to break down on the show. That was his last night.

@@chrischeshire6528 And furthermore, Dennis James was never "fired" from the show. His 5 year contract was up and had not been renewed given the fact that the nighttime version would last that amount of time. It obviously did well enough to add an additional 3 years with Bob Barker taking over that version as well as the daytime one as James enjoyed his retirement at Palm Springs. Heaven took his soul from lung cancer in 1997.

The biggest change that I found a bit surprising was when they changed to the current set as it is (before this big announcement) which departs from the large studio it used to be when Bob Barker was doing the show. Now it seems that the "audience" has been trimmed down to perhaps 80-100 people, instead of about 300.

The thing that makes this move even sadder, is the fact that the year that they move out of the Bob Barker Studio is also the same year (in December) that Bob celebrates his 100th birthday. It's like a stab in the back to him. Also, regarding Bob's 100th birthday, when Bob made a special visit for his 90th birthday, Drew invited him back for his 100th Wondering if they will forget about that too?
@davidbraman3268
@davidbraman3268 11 ай бұрын
It’s not so much that they will forget about it, but at this stage in his life, Bob is in no shape to make the trip back to the show. He no longer even leaves his house unless maybe for a doctor appointment. His last April Fool’s appearance on the show he said would be his last one as it took way too much out of him. Thankfully Pluto TV airs his old episodes on his own The Price is Right - The Barker Era channel. Sadly, not unlike Betty White, he might not make it to his 100th birthday - as much as I and many would love to see that happen. Celebrities in the past such as Bob Hope and George Burns had 100 year celebrations and neither were present at the events as they weren’t capable of appearing or chose not to be seen in their then current conditions. Bob is no different. He was invited to the 50th anniversary Price is Right special but due to his health, was unable to attend. There are no international or unintended slights towards Bob. Times change and this studio change has been years in the making.

@@millster9389 Bill Cullen was the best game show MC ever. In a career spanning 40 years he hosted over 20 different game shows. He was a very warm individual and was very witty and humorous. It's really a shame that very old game shows such as Price Is Right as well as Jeopardy, the men who launched them (Bill Cullen and Art Fleming) seldom get any mention or credit for their work. There are very few of their shows that can be watched on KZbin as most of them got destroyed by the dim-wit bosses who decided to save and reuse the video tapes immediately, never thinking that a future audience might be interested in seeing old time game shows.

The Television City Studios facility was in far from optimal condition, so it made sense. It was built for TV, particularly with then-new colour cameras, which required a lot of lighting and space in the late 1950s. If I'm not mistaken, it was a Fred Astaire presentation that was the first show from what was then CBS ' new studio. Because of long use, weather, earthquakes, etc. over the last 6 decades, it was time to retire the old studio. TPIR was the last regular production still using the studio. I only hope with the new studio, they'll bring the show back to its old glory for a new era.

...the problem with the old former CBS studio is age; designed in the 1950's and opened in 1952, the original 4 (and eventually 6) studios became outdated by modern standards; Viacom saw an opportunity to get out of being a landlord, so they sold the studios (and the name "Television City") to another party to redevelop it into 15 modern studios. Studio 33 was also the home to Red Skelton, Carol Burnett, and Match Game.

I just watched the video and there was an error in the early going. He mentioned that the original version that was hosted by Bill Cullen ended in 1964. He was off by a year. The original Price is Right was canceled in September 1965 after a nine year run. The last two seasons were on ABC after NBC axed the show in 1963.

I been watching the TPIR for years. I still enjoy watching the old Price Is Right with Bob Barker and the models. I enjoyed the skits; they use to put on in the show case. I still enjoy seeing Diane, Jance and Holly. Back in the day, the contestant, dressed up to come to the show and were in much better shape. Look at the contestant today, they look like they just come out of working in their yard. and totally out of shape. I still watch, but not like back in the day. Bob Barker and the old models left a format that has been met to today.

Change and progress is good, in tv it keeps things fresh. The Bob Barker stage has a storied past. The Price Is Right over the years has been the anchor of other shows that used the stage. The stage hosted the Carol Burnett Show, Jack Benny, Red Skelton, the Smother Brothers and many show. There’s a promotional video that news reporter Edward R. Murrow shot right after Television City was just opened and in use. The video wasn’t meant for public viewing, it was shot for promotion to attract affiliates. It’s not going to be a difficult job to expand on because there are walls and glass panels that are meant to be moved for expansion. The current owner of Television City is planning building new stages to make the studio more accessible to more productions. The Los Angeles area or as a whole Hollywood despite being spread all over the county and city. 2019 and 2020before the pandemic that shut down all production you couldn’t find the smallest of stages. History buffs are angry with Warner for razing the Warner backlot ranch where facades from our favorite 1960s and 70s sitcoms. All for new stages, offices and parking. The main Warner lot is very nice to tour and has a lot of history behind the lot.
