That was the best dishwasher on the market and the best in the world. $600 was a month’s salary for a mid-level white collar worker at the time. Rich white ladies insisted on these when equiping their dream house. They used 14 gallons of 140 degree water per cycle, so would be against the law today. Today’s top of the line Miele at about $3,000 would be the equivalent, but wouldn’t clean like that KitchenAid.

I love Pauline. That was too much. And she had it NAILED! Three were obvious, IMO. The freshener was NOT. So, since she picked it third, it was over. She was guaranteed to win. That’s why Bob joked about everyone yelling “Yams”… because everyone knew. It was obvious. Knocking off the freshener early made it much more fun, because everyone knew what was coming. Such fun. One of the most enjoyable TPIR episodes ever.
@artkurtz9238
@artkurtz9238 Жыл бұрын
Not only that- by picking the least ovious one third, you lock in $100. Let's say you decide you won't stop at $1,000. (I wouldn't). At $100, there is no risk (at least under the Barker years, they are vague these days - but I still think you keep $100.) It's not much- but $100 is $100. She played it perfectly. That is how I'd do it.

Laughing through the tears at this one. Mind you I'm not a crier AT ALL, certainly not for celebrities, but Bob's death literally makes my chest hurt, like something has been ripped out of it, something that first took root right around this time, 1980 when I was in 1st grade and I missed a ton of school due to multiple ailments including tonsilitis, chicken pox, mumps (which then caused a secondary ear infection), and at least one round of seasonal flu. And yeah, being sick at home is how most people fell in love with Bob, that and his devotion to animals. -The past few years I've had a habit of singing the phrase "Let's-go-to-bedddd, let's-go-to-bedddddd ....." in the Price Is Right theme tune, to my cat at bedtime. It's been harder to sing it this week, without my voice cracking. And I swear just a couple weeks ago I predicted to my daughter that TPIR would have a big birthday bash for Bob this December. Sigh. Thank you Bob all the love you gave to people and animals. We had you longer than could reasonably be expected, and probably longer than we deserved, and it still doesn't feel like enough, but thank you.

I still can’t explain why I like this show so much, but even as a little kid I watched it regularly, probably as much as any cartoon. These days I view it as an interesting retrospective on the social norms, attitudes, and marketing environment of those times. It was such a perfect forum to capture that slice of humanity.

I remember seeing this episode when it first aired as a boy. Even had it taped for a long time too! Unfortunately, it was cassette tape. But it worked for the purpose back then.

18:51 I don’t know why Ford would have a small 4 cylinder engine in a Mustang where I know it has either a v6 or a v8!

The Ford Mustang always had a choice of engines depending on the trim level. It was also never discontinued like the Chargers and Challengers (and the Plymouth variants) were.

Regardless - to call that mess a Mustang was just sacrilege.

Pauline and Marcia… the female African American contestants were the best. They lose their minds and freak out…. Totally uncensored in their joy and reactions when they win.

The scene in question can be found at 38:59, which made me laugh out loud and I watched it more than once, so I laughed again. RIP Bob Barker, you were a fantastic game show host.

This must have been a rerun that aired in the 90s considering the Michelle Kwan commercial.

I like how the models look so naturally beautiful . Such cute hair styles. Vanna White's make up artist and hair stylist should've done the same for her.

Bob was still into it, still had enthusasm and went with the humor. It was fun to see the program during that era.
