As a white New Zealander, I am ashamed of the way we treated the Maori people. I am proud of the Maori people and love them.

Can’t believe how quick these young boys were to answer if war was to break out that they would go in a heartbeat. I don’t know whether to think how brave or stupid. That’s exactly what the pakeha would want, young Maori men they don’t have kids to go out there and possibly not come back to weaken their population for the future. No one gains anything from going to war except a few who make money out of it.

Please don’t forget the Pakeha Battalions: 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, and 27th….. My father fought in the 20th battalion ……he had Great Respect for the 28th Battalion. The 20th suffered a 39.6% KIA. The 20th Battalion was a South Island Pakeha Battalion. I am proud of my Pakeha family history. So the 28th Battalion was a small part of NZ’s participation in WW2; but a well deserved one! But Please don’t forget the other 10 Pakeha Battalions, it about respect.
