This song was written in response to a comment that the Las Vegas Massacre is "The Price of Freedom". It is dedicated to the fallen and with the sincere hope that one day this song will no longer be relevant. More information at www.olsensoundscape.com.
The Price of Freedom
Words and Music by Eric Olsen
Eric Olsen, piano and vocals
I think we’ve had enough of candlelight vigils.
We’re sick and tired of burying our dead.
I think it’s time we said the truth that’s not being said:
We pay too high a price for this freedom.
What are we going to say to our sons and our daughters?
They might not ever have a chance to grow.
How many more will pay the price, how many more will know
They’re sacrificial lambs for this freedom?
This is the path that we’re on.
And we should know it’s a con.
The price of freedom is fearing for your life
In a hunter’s sights.
If you should wonder why we’re in this situation,
Just ask yourself where all that money goes,
To keep this Wild West fantasy where everybody knows
That they could die tonight for this freedom.
Don’t tell me it’s too soon, it’s really too late now,
It’s time for action, not for more delay.
This madness will not ever end until we all say
We pay too high a price for this freedom.
This is the path that we’re on.
And we should know it’s a con.
The price of freedom is fearing for your life
In a hunter’s sights.
I think we’ve had enough of candlelight vigils.
We’re sick and tired of burying our dead.
I think it’s time we said the truth that’s not being said:
We pay too high a price for this freedom.
It isn’t worth the price for this freedom.
Don’t want to die tonight for this freedom.
Fearing for your life isn’t freedom.
