This is very very similar to a perfect shuffle! In a perfect shuffle, the top half of a set is chosen from first in the shuffle, and therefore the top position never changes. In the shuffling in this video however, the bottom half is chosen from first. This has an effect on the periodicity of the shuffles (for instance, it only takes 2 perfect shuffles to separate 4 chips). What I did in this video goes by several names, most commonly the “twist operation” or the “spiral permutation”.
