The Princess Bride reaction & commentary
BillyBinges The Princess Bride commentary • The Princess Bride Is ...
For Stef, the first time watching The Princess Bride turned out to be a great time and im. glad we could share this first time with you.
This is one of those movies that we were absolutely always going to do a movie reaction & commentary video for. The question was really just when. Because there were a few requests, the answer is now. Obviously. Imagine if you were reading this and the time was actually like next week lol. Hope you guys enjoy this one and maybe consider sticking around for more commentary & reaction videos in the future!
80s tees is a cool online store where Sam and I buy some of our t-shirts that have official designs for movies, tv shows and music. The designs are sick and the shirts are great quality, plus you get free shipping anywhere in the world for orders over $50 usd. Would highly recommend 😁

This really is a classic. The real men in this movie had honor, and didn't like the idea of being "unsportsmanlike". This film touches everyone, because we've all had that phase of knowing what chivalry and true love was, even if we were too young to actually understand it. Watching this, we are all, for 90 minutes, able to believe that this world exists. Thank you for reacting to it and not belittling the way you felt.

Random theory: Westley said that he spent the last few years building up an immunity to Iocane powder, but where would he get it from? Answer: The dread-pirate Roberts. Which is why he always told Westley he’d “most-likely kill him in the morning”, because he was putting a tiny amount in his morning brew (wether that be coffee or alcohol is up to you) without telling him about it until he retired. Westley *probably* wouldn’t tell Buttercup that part to keep her from freaking out since they were already stuck in the Fire Swamp. 😅😂

People seem to forget this was based on a book. The book is just as good as the movie! What’s crazy is the guy who wrote the book made up a huge backstory with a fake author and pretended the book was some kind of lost manuscript. Talk about dedication to storytelling.

It’s incredibly interesting to the movie that at the time, Mandy Patinkin (Inigio) was losing his father to cancer so a lot of Ingio’s father lines in the film had extra meaning as well the actor saying during his fight with count Rogo (the 6th finger man) he envisioned it as him facing off against his father’s cancer Seems to have elevated the entire performance quite high.

During the sword fight, both use names like "Capo-Ferro", "Tybalt", "Agrippa", etc. These were the names of actual fencing masters during the 14th/15th century...the fencing moves have nothing to do with the historical teachers, but it was nice that they actually looked into the history of fencing and brought them up. As Inigo says he's spent 20 years studying fencing, if he had he would have been aware of the styles.

the additional blood was from the additional injuries. When he was leaning against the wall, the 6 fingered man lunged, he was able to block enough to stop it from going in too deep but the sword still punctures him in the shoulder and the arm. The brilliance of that scene when Inigo finds his second wave of strength, he mirrors EVERY injury from the sword. Rogen first killed his father, then sliced inigo's cheeks when Inigo was a kid, then he punctured the shoulder and then the arm. In the first, Inigo goes for rogen's shoulder and arm, then his cheeks and then took his life, the way he had taken his father's. The only thing he doesn't mirror is the stab wound in the stomach but that was given with a dagger instead of a sword. He mirrored every injury Rogen ever gave him from the sword his father made for him, which is how I took it.

It has 5 levels each with their own theme Speed: wild dogs, cheetahs, hummingbirds, etc Strength: gorillas, rhinos, crocodiles, etc Poisonous: Cobras, Jumping spiders, death bats (supposedly able to drain a persons blood with one bite.) etc Fear: Blood Eagle, Shrieking Tarantula, etc 5th level: He planned on putting an enemy as deadly as himself there one day. He was unable to find one.. until Westley.

This is from an NPR interview with Mandy Patinkin, the actor who played Inigo, and it's beautiful and heartbreaking: "I would walk through the maze of the gardens while I was just trying to relax or while they were lighting the scene, and I was talking to my father, who had died not that many years before we made the film, and I always had it in my mind that if I could get the six fingered man, if Inigo could get the six fingered man, then my father, Mandy's father, would come back and be with me."

Yes one of my favourite movies ever! I love this one, and great reaction. I grew up with this movie and it's so quotable and iconic. It's been called a "perfect" movie, because everything that gets set up is paid off, it balances the genres so well and is all round entertaining. collider.com/why-princess-bride-is-the-perfect-movie/

Far the swordfight sequences, the two actors spent every bit of down-time, and months before with champion swordsmen learning how to fence both left and right-handed. They wanted it to be as authentic "swash-buckling" as they could make it. One of the teachers had worked with Errol Flynn, when sword fights were very much in adventure movies.

Andre was wearing a ‘Holocaust cloak’ If you look when they are fencing, Inigo gets stabbed by the 6 fingered man in both arms when he’s still hurting, before he starts to feel better. He parries the killing blow, but gets stabbed in his arms.

The Movie Budz I’m assuming from the name ‘holocaust cloak’ and the fact that Miracle Max gave it to him that it was a magical cloak that was fireproof. And yeah, he blocks a thrust to either side. He later gives the six fingered man the exact same wounds he himself received. The punctures to both arms & the scars on either cheek.

Just wanted to say that in the book Humperdink was going to marry the princess of the neighboring kingdom to unite their lands and while things were going well at first he found out that she was bald and refused to marry her and then began plotting a war because he still wanted her country. He picked Buttercup to be his bride because she was beautiful (according to the book Buttercup was the most beautiful woman in the world when the prince saw her and there were other women who held that title before her but lost it one way or another) and then he hired three men to kidnap to kill her so he could have an excuse to start a war.
