That's hilarious. It's not about China's censorship. This story was never written to be a GL story to begin with. The story, based on a manga/manhua, is about an exiled Tang Princess who disguises herself as a male seeking revenge for the destruction of her family, and, while on the run, meets a Turkic general from Ashile Tribe(a people her people have been warring against). They are the two lead characters. He falls in love with her from the moment he realizes that she's female and brings her to live with him in the grasslands. While living with him, he continues to keep her disguised as a male for her own protection from his men. The love story is between these two, from enemies to lovers. Neither the main female character nor the slave girl actually have any interest in women. For the slave girl, it was simply a case of mistaken gender. She only liked her romantically at first because she thought she was a he. Any semblance of a "romance" between the two women only lasts a few scenes, and was meant for comedy more than anything, so I have no idea how anyone is thinking that this had everything to be a GL story.
