I used to buy prizm boxes for about $120. It seemed expensive at the time considering stuff like prestige or score or topps would have been less than $100. The stuff they are selling for hobby now is just for breakers who can justify the expense when you split into teams to sell.

@@huxbux it’s killed whatever was left of the hobby. They always blame panini, but why would panini ever fix their products when breakers buy out everything on day of release to break it for nothing but money lol. Growing up it was a kid’s hobby and I could buy blasters and packs of all this for $5-$15. Now it’s $40 minimum but the entire cards area in every nearby store is cleaned out probably by the same local guy or he knows the distributor or something. Hobby’s a mess and breakers are to blame to allow Panini to become negligent as well as surge the product to massively inflated values

@@huxbux 100% agree and would love to see that breaker video! Breakers have killed the hobby! I dont necessarily think they're nefarious or what have you and I can honestly say I love several of them, but the huge influx of all these breakers just creates artificial demand and inflates prices. It is also nothing but gambling, but its never sold to you as that nor offered you a path to seek help for an addiction that they may have directly caused you to acquire. Excellent analysis. Its downright criminal what Panini and Topps has done over the last 5 years to the hobby I fell in love with growing up. The endless parallels the unimaginative inserts the parade of sticker autos on high end products. The lack of player/game worn jersey patches. Panini is winning at levels that make Vegas jealous. Unfortunately way too many people are still buying so there is little to no incentive to change behavior.

Both companies cater to breakers and gamblers. This is why many, like myself, have gone to POKEMON or singles. No more breaking sports.

Exactly the fact that they both make "choice" products meant for breaks is terrible. Originally breaks were decent to buy your PC team but now they're a total waste. You can spend hundreds and get nothing.

Man I love the video thanks I was in my local card shop today getting a mosaic hobby blaster and seen the prizm 24 for 90 a pck I wad like wth!!! I have seen so many videos the same ones you showed all 4 at the end of your video. And it sounds really good but I dnt have 90 to spend on a pack and it's sad because I can't enjoy that rip 😢

I bought the total 2024. 5 Prizm hobby football. Like you said in your video. Almost zero return. I hit one case hit which I never heard of. Love the content. Panini May hear from me. Just trying to figure out my wording:)

I won't be opening any of these the prices are ridiculous. A week after release and most of the big !/1's have been hit already by breakers of course. Great analysis as always.

Great vid! Panini price them super high! I did a few breaks to chase the lowered numbered or SSP (Snakeskins) cards but they are hard for a reason. I only try to get the high end sets now. Absolute, donruss, and such are only good for PCers or kids.

When Prizm first released I thought they were generic Topps Chrome. Shows what I know. I’d buy a couple mega boxes every year until 2018. I really liked the design that year and instead of Optic (pre 2016 I did Topps Chrome annually) Football. The only year I went all in on Prizm. And last year I bought a set online for under 100, think it was 85 all in. Surprised the values had tanked but I liked the design, plus it was another solid rookie class. The problem with all these parallel cards isn’t just a Prizm problem. It’s been an issue since before Panini took over in 2016. Topps was doing the same stuff. I’ve been back in the hobby since 2007 and all I can suggest is to wait a few months, easier said than done, and then go after what you want. If the situation with Prizm is really this bad then come Feb or March you’ll be able to buy a lot for way less.

Has felt like a crazy spiral for singles prices and the opposite for wax for sure. You addressed that here. I would also say what is probably still drawing people to these sets is that a very small percentage of cards sell for insane prices that I doubt you would have seen prior to 2019. As you said, still Astronomical odds of hitting one, but if you do…. But at 945 a box it basically has to be gold or better of one of the top players to even come close to paying for your box. 🤷‍♂️. I been rooting for for it it to swing the other way on wax prices but it seems like demand has found its footing for now and I doubt it changed any time soon in a meaningful way

I used to think it was the insane hits subsidizing the cost of the box. Now I lean towards thinking its really gamblers chasing a "high". The primary way the hobby engages with wax is breaks. It's not personals anymore. Really need to do my video on breakers. It's not going to make me any friends 😬

I really appreciate your breakdown and the supporting stats. The only thing I disagree with is when you said $650 a box in 2022 wasn’t bad lol. I know inflation is a thing but paying anything over about $250 a box is a complete ripoff imo.

I agree the price of the hobby box is way too high, if they can sell out at this price, it shows the real inflation in our economy. Too much money. But I have to admit this is a very promising rookie class. Two of the rookie QBs will likely be in the playoffs. If they had those top rookies signing for them, then it would be slightly better.

I think when you argue with numbers and facts, it gets redundant. Football is king. Draft class with multiple good rookie QBs trumps the horrible floor. I agree with you all the way, but the consumer wants what they want. Basketball has the rare alien of wemby last season but this next season I see all their prices dropping dramatically especially with how poor the draft class is performing. Prizm football though, even with the crazy amount of parallels, will keep doing ridiculous numbers. I think people like the parallels to have more color matches to their specific team. I sold a Drake maye blue # to 149 for more than a Drake maye # to 99... Maybe that's the market they are trying to appeal to

I'll always argue for everyone to be a rational actor in the hobby. Will they? Of course not. But if the message gets through to one person, mission success. You opened up a whole other can of worms in the motivations of wax opening. And it's a topic I've got on the docket. All I say hear is the draft class has less to do with price then we like to think. Case in point, 2024 Prizm hobby is preodering for $1k. That's more then last year.

I stick with retail prizm even though it's a boring product because it's silver top qb or bust. Optic and mosiaic are more fun for me. Nearly impossible to hit on hobby prizm unless its fotl and even then it's still very hard

@@huxbux haha very true. I watch a ton of hobby rips and rarely if ever do I see even a 20% ROI, on retail I can usually squeeze out 50% on average. It seems for hobby you have to do FOTL or you are basically doomed. Certain products hobby is better like Rookies and Stars so I grabbed a hobby for that one because its under $300. As soon as it was revealed that Panini would lose their licence in 2020 or 21, I forget what year, but I quit the hobby. Prices were getting insane and the motive to just print them to the moon become too profitable, just like it did during the first junk wax era. I just hope that Fanatics can stabilize the hobby. I wouldn't hold your breath for that, even though they have shown a few positive signs. These corporations are't interested in ethics for the hobby, they're interested in padding their bank accounts. I just dont see the hobby ever returning to 'normal'.

I'm not holding my breath Fanatics will fix wax. There's zero incentive to. What they will do better, I think, is tier products better than Panini. They'll be lower priced entry level products think Big League and Flagship. Value out will still be crap.

$950 for a box? Are u HIGH? 😂 The prices of ALL these chrome style cards are stupid over priced. These use to be 100-125…. 150 MAX when they got harder to find. These people who are spending 7-9x what a box should sell for are the same ones who think a 17 year old prospect is more valuable than a HoFer. And no 100-150 wasnt cheap, it was what it SHOULD be worth. Breakers ruined this hobby. Of course Panini and Fanatics just keep raising the prices when the breakers just keep buying em at any price. Not sure. Panini never has release dates for retail. Probably around hobby release or a week or two after. The Megas got nerfed. Last year was 1 auto. 2024 is 1 auto or mem.

I think retail has a much better ROR but I'm not excited about the new $65 price tag norm. Granted the ceiling is much, much lower, but a silver of a top rookie QB and box is paid. A much more likely scenario than hitting a 1k card out of hobby.

I think my box of Certified returned twice the value of any 2 Prizm FOTL hobby boxes I’ve seen opened. With the exception of Pack Man’s (yeah I’ve heard) whom I won’t watch a second of that mouth gapers videos. I’m seeing FOTL “Legend” boxes….seriously? Autos of former players who make their living at comicons? And #’d legends? It’s thievery to the unsuspecting customer like I’ve never seen before and it’s disgraceful to run a business with a product you can’t be proud of because you’re letting 98% of your customers down while giving “influencers” (breakers) free/stacked boxes. And unless they have somebody new at Panini who thinks a Marcus Allen sig in a FOTL is actual fire…they have someone there making decisions that make the devil blush. Sheesh! Merry Christmas Hux! The box price gets zero discount for your two hits almost guaranteed to be $10 autos. The hobby and influences give it a shrug and carry on like it's not a big deal. I know why. I get it. But man...
