One aspect to mention about dating that isn’t often discussed is that Brazil is considered to be a very class-based society generally speaking, with one of the highest levels of income inequality in the world and numerous social mobility challenges for those born into lower income circumstances. Considering that in Latin America in general, many foreign men from the United States, and many countries in Europe, etc. are generalized with the local perspective of being “rich” while visiting, working or living in Latin America, hypergamy does play a huge role in foreign dating experiences, as for some women, it is a means of increasing their social status among their peers. It’s not difficult in the least for a man from these countries to date in Rio de Janeiro, to meet someone beautiful and fun and social and a good cook and passionate about life and go out and have memorable experiences, and if you are also social passionate about life, those initial outings will be fantastic. But it is difficult to find a compatible person for a serious, long term, committed relationship based on trust and fidelity. Not impossible, but very difficult, especially in Rio de Janeiro. While many foreigners from specific countries have stereotypes about Brazilian women, good and bad, there are also stereotypes many women have about foreign men, good and bad, which informs the dating decisions of both. While in general many Brazilian women have very attractive personal traits that make them generally desirable for dating among many foreign men, some of the challenges of serious dating in Rio are: 1) More often than not, you are in different economic circumstances, or at least perceived to be. Even if a man comes from a poor background in his own country, or is in paycheck to paycheck circumstances while living in Brazil, just your presence in a foreign country, your ability to travel, leads some women to feel like you have never struggled a day in your life and can never truly understand where they come from economically, or that if you can’t pay for every single thing, you are just being cheap. This is not a perception many Brazilian woman have of dating men in their own culture, but is one many have when dating a foreign man. In these types of cases, you will find often find yourself paying for every single thing the two of you do together at all times, and even for her basic transportation whether it is Ubers or bus fare, etc just to come visit you as many times, you will be living in a different neighborhood than she is. 2) Cultural. Many women in Brazil (not all) are considered to be highly jealous and possessive. This is so common that many Brazilians consider this to be very normal thing in relationships, just a sign that the woman really likes you. But for many foreign men, this is a very frustrating and aggravating trait to deal with, one that indicates mistrust and in some cases, especially if you as a man are not doing anything wrong in the relationship, makes you mistrust her also. If a man is trying to date for serious relationship purposes in Rio de Janeiro, it is definitely important to look at a woman’s individual mentality and character and circumstances and give things time to grow to see what you can and can’t live with.

As a Brazilian who has lived in several European countries (and visited 30+, including Sweden), I'd say your video is great and quite accurate. But I'd add that despite that kind of "dating behavour" you describe being more or less the norm in Brazil, there are many women who would have been just fine with your trips to Rio. Your ex seems a bit more "feisty" and the party-type, so it's not hard to understand why it wouldn't work with her.

As an American who has lived in Rio de Janeiro for years, an interesting fact is that, contrary to what many tourists and foreign men have experienced in Brazil, it is not uncommon for Brazilian couples to split the bill when going out. One of the stereotypes in Brazil about foreign men from developed countries is that we are all wealthy, and because of this line of thinking, the majority of women a foreigner dates in Brazil will never offer to split any bill, even if she asked you out. Many will even feel extremely comfortable bringing you any financial issues they have due to this line of thinking. There are exceptions. I have dated a woman in Brazil who is very financially independent and accomplished and offered to split the bills when we went out and even argued with me when I said I would pay for everything. And occasionally, you will run into a woman who offers to split because she is aware of the stereotypes of women using men for money and doesn’t want you to feel used, and that type of woman is very considerate even in just offering.

Im a Dutch gringo dating a beautiful Brazilian girl from the South of Brazil (I think it helps because of the different climate there compared to the rest of Brazil). We are dating for little over a year and a half, traveling up and down a few times, and are currently in the process (immigration etc) of her moving here. Tbh, Its been a few excrusiating months apart but the end is near. Hopefully next month she will finally be here. 🎉❤ Just to give an insight into the troubles you went through and the differences you experienced, I can 100% identify with you. My ex was from Sao Paulo and lived here in the Netherlands for 4,5 years. She just couldnt get used to the cold and harsh environment here (and I dont just mean the weather). The missing of Brazil became too strong and our differences too great. I learned allot looking back at things. It truly takes a great understanding and respect of the beautiful Brazilian culture and lifestyle to make the relationship work, yet if you get it right I believe it can be one of the most fullfiling relationships you will ever experience. Brazilian woman are just a different breed! If you love them with all your heart, and show passion and dedication to making it work you get so much in return. Keep up the interesting videos and incredible experiences my friend, eventually you will find that perfect lady where everything just clicks.

@@SwedishGringo one more thing: Being jealous or if you don’t trust your partner is always a lack of confidence in oneself. In life in general. And if you do not trust your partner then you are without appreciation of what you have. Because of thinking all the time he/she is cheating you is another form of being unsatisfied with oneself and your partner is just reflecting this poverty. That’s the reason why partners are criticising each other. They want to optimise their relationship according to the needs of oneself. But this is a cultural thing and results in the aspect of the need to survive. This is in all countries the same because it’s human. But if you are strong enough you can deal with it and with your partner you have a good teacher to learn your lesson. Are you a superficial person or not needs to be clarified now😉. In short: Totally different ways of dealing with each other. One person is just looking for its own benefit (survival) instead of looking for the benefit of others (being rich). But this is something cultural because what to expect from a culture in which the main purpose of living is surviving and to forget this aspect during partying. There is no fault in it, no one is to blame. Here in Europe with social welfare it’s less about the fact that your first thought is how to survive and where is my own profit. In developing countries in first place is how to survive. This is what matters the most. Looking good, looking better than my opponent, having fun on the beach does not feed you and of course you are mistrusting each other because of limited recourses. It’s human to have this wish to be always on the top because we want to survive! And Brazil for sure reflects somehow my statement here. Very good experience Gringo🙏🏻

I love Brazilian women... They're great, but they can be incredibly difficult to be in relationships with. Everything you need to know about their emotions and deeply engrained views on romance can be learned from the Bossanova song 'How Insensitive' by Astrud Gilberto. They can experience every spectrum of human emotions in a 15 minute window. You have to be willing to ride the rollercoaster with them or find your exit. The jealousy they bring into a relationship is absolutely consuming. If another woman even likes one of your IG posts you can expect to have your entire night ruined. They only feel connected to you if you feel the exact same emotions at the exact same time as them. Just speculating, but I think there's another side to the Brazilian men not taking relationships seriously. I think they're avoidant of the drama that it comes with. They're still my favorite women but am doubtful of being able to sustain a serious relationship with one.

I am an avid viewer and a fan of your content. It is a relevant topic and I think you laid it out well. Not at all hurtful. I appreciated your subtle nordic (non-Brazilian) perspective. Both sides (Brazilian/non-Brazilian) could learn from what you've posted. You focused on some key cultural differences. Consumption, intimacy, expectations to name just a few. You avoided mentioning some topics that I think would be difficult to articulate in a way that would not provoke an aggressive response: maturity, lack of self-awareness, self-focus on the part of the young woman. The narrative was basically "how do I make and keep her happy?", not "how do we support and make each other happy".

Damn bro. Try not to get me wrong: this probably means you are the greatest prize possible for the girl looking for you. Don’t lose that, cause that’s real. I know it’s awful thinking about other guys getting the action, but real always wins (for both). Try anything to break the barrier: strategy, alcohol, etc, but know that the real stuff you’ve got is much more real than the diluted mush other guys have to offer, after sacrificing who they are to get the prize

Each country has a different culture and ways of dealing with various issues and themes. When itcomes to relationships, Brazilians themselves are very intense. I'm not saying everyone, but a part of the population, especially the younger ones, are more intense. It's difficult even for us Brazilians to keep up with this intensity. Imagine for a foreigner who is dating someone from here. Of course, a relationship is an exchange and giving up some habits can certainly get in the way of the relationship with the other partner. But you've already had your experience and are giving your account. Good luck next time, if you have one next time.

Boa sorte a você!

Talked to a Carioca for 5 months and went to Rio to meet up with her. We still talk till this day. My perspective keep your intentions clear from the start. Know what angle she's coming from and if it doesn't go against your way then perfect. I was looking for an experience where as she was coming from a divorce so things worked out. Also keep in mind in Brazil these women are very independent they also want things to go their way but you have to be straight up and make the calls.

Each relationship has its own dynamics and judging that all Brazilian women act in this frivolous way is a lack of common sense. Cultural differences exist even between states themselves From Brazil and this does not define whether the relationship will be successful or not. What makes a relationship work is love, respect for the space and individuality of the other and the companionship that both They will develop throughout the process. You cannot live in a relationship where one person gives everything and the other gives nothing. I wish you luck in your next choices of a woman who really disappears in your Journey and build a good married life with you and not furtive moments of partying and partying.😊

A lot will happen until you comeback man... You'll probably grow from this so do her... that's life. Dating women is not easy in general and Brazilian culture is on a whole different level when it comes to relationships, attachment, bonding, etc... Brazilian women are very attractive, they are kind yes and tend to be really (really) into you when they like/love you but fails will happen, nobody is perfect... I have to say as you pointed out, you live in reality, you are not escaping it, so it's quite difficult to give a woman all your time and energy if that's the case, you'll burn out... so matching with someone with the same energy and understanding of your situation will do wonders... Good to see you talked a little bit about "cheating" which is "very present" in the country... a lot of temptations on both sides, a lot to say about this, this is a Brazilian reality.
