I've been struggling with this my whole life. I've been atheist/agnostic for a very long time... But this is mind-blowing... I've never thought about it like this. I've read everything I can and searched everywhere I could to try to find evidence for God but I've never come across anything that convinced me. It's mostly been hung up on this problem of evil and your video is the first time I've ever heard an explanation that I could accept. Thank you.

@@nerdineverythingnerdinnoth4984 The forbidden fruit represents God giving us the freedom to choose him or reject him. God cannot force us to freely love him (that would be logically impossible). And so God choose to give us the choice of whether to follow his ways or not. That's what the fruit represented.

@@nerdineverythingnerdinnoth4984 Humans always had the choice to do whatever they decided, that is what the Bible means when it says humans are made in God's image. We are conscious, rational beings with a will capable of forming habit and acting contrary to our biological instincts. God created the fruit to allow his creation to decide for themselves whether or not to follow him, but he forbid them from eating it because he knew that it would lead to horrible depravity and separate humans from him because of their guilt. "But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of coveting. For apart from the law, sin was dead." - Romans 7:8 The forbidden fruit really just instilled upon humans the moral law, and the fact that disobedience to God is wrong and punishable. The natural state of humans is to be in perfect fellowship with God. If we did not have that desire, humans would not still feel empty even when they possessed material goods and lived a satisfying life. Additionally, God kicked adam and eve out of the garden because of his love. He couldn't allow people to eat from the tree of life continually and live forever in seperation from him after having eaten from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Instead, he became human as Jesus to be the blood sacrifice for sin, feel the pain of man, and allow redemption for his creation.

As someone, before they were a Christian, who wished for the world to just end because of being tormented by people in my school, I'm sorry to say that I understand human evil far too personally. But for a split hair in time I could have become a school shooter and I already wanted to die. I had a long ways to go after coming to a heartbroken faith in Christ, and a long ways to go yet, but seeing evil including my own has always been easy to me. It's very humbling and though it hurt, and will keep hurting, I'm grateful to God for allowing me to live and love with understanding of how easy it is to be a monster.

You chose not to act on your emotions, and that my friend puts you head and shoulders above the majority of the population. That should be something to help ease the pain. I (me personally) say, "So what?" there is not a person in this world at one time or another that has not thought about doing something crazy or stupid in some form or fashion. Lord knows there have been plenty of times I have thought about doing stupid things, and actually wanting to do stupid things, so what? It is a natural and normal part of the human stress response. You did not let it control you, you controlled it, and that my friend is a major battle victory. Let that ease your pain.

What's the problem with calvinism? If we are totally depraved how can we ever come to choose God by ourselves?
@creetan9997
@creetan9997 3 жыл бұрын
You have to understand we are TOTALLY depraved. Meaning nothing within ourselves can do good. If we choose God it's not because there is something good in of ourselves that's the cause of that decision but God intervening based off of His will not ours. There is nothing else. Because to say there is is to say that we are not totally depraved. That there is something deep down within ourselves that isn't totally depraved. And when we truly believe this we are not glorifying God but rather our own selves. Because it's not God saving you it's that deep down inside "goodness, eagerness, willingness" that comes from YOU that saved you. People are slaves to sin. And before God intervening, we are, out of our own will, chosing it over Him!!! But once God intervenes and cuts those chains and shows us freedom, no way do we ever say "put those chains back on" because that freedom and love is too overwhelming to ever reject. The elect do this out of their own free will. The only thing we had no say in is whether those chains are broken or not. And God doesn't intervene because he sees something in you. He does it out of pure mercy. Nothing of yourself determined God's intervention. This is who God has predestined to save. Those elect were chosen not because God found something special about them or worthy. But He chooses, whoever, to truly show how great His mercy is. "Hmm, I choose these people over these other people because I find something special about them".... This is not a display of mercy but a display of worthiness of those people. This does not glorify God but glorifies man. "I choose these people: One a plain insignificant man over a great man. One a pedophile over a protector of children. One a huge narcissist over a great philanthropist. One a psychopath over a normal functioning member of society. One a blasphemer and God hater over a zealous religious, law abiding church goer." It can go the other way around as well, a great man over an insignificant man. Again, because it's nothing within the person that is determining God's choice. This truly shows the great mercy/grace of God. Oh, how great His mercy/grace is that He gives salvation to such undeserving people. This brings glory to HIM and not man. I think what also needs to be understood is that there are sects of Calvinism that are not biblical. The main part is that God has predestined salvation to a select group and we are lucky that any of us are even being saved in the first place. Another thing that needs to be understood is what free will is. I don't have the will to flap my arms and start flying, does this mean that I don't have free will and therefore I am a biological robot? Absolutely not. There are limitations, but just because there are limits does not mean that we don't have free will. We have free will within those limits.
@creetan9997
@creetan9997 3 жыл бұрын
@The Insufferable Tool Not to be rude, but all you did is make claims not providing anything to back it up. In my comment before, I didn't provide because the person I was responding to already agreed with total depravity. You seem to not be taking into account everything I said. In a Calvinist view, people are still to blame for their unrepentant sin and people are still free to choose to follow God. The analogy I gave, I think, describes it well. Slaves to sin willingly, but it is God who cuts those chains and shows us the alternative. The alternative being so great that no one would ever deny it and say "put my chains back on". I also explained that just because there are limits to someone's will doesn't mean they don't have free will. To give the example I made already, I can't start flapping my arms and fly. So does that mean I have no free will because I am limited to what was given to me? Also, I base predestination on Jesus' words in John 6:44 that no one comes to Him unless the Father who sent Him draws them to Him. Some people dispute, and like to focus, on the word "draw" but it doesn't matter because it still takes the Father's action for someone to even be brought to Christ. Also, he says "NO ONE can come, UNLESS the Father draws them" and not "no one can come unless there is something within themselves that brings the Father to draw them to Him" But why can no one come to Him without the Father's actions to draw them? The only thing I can think of is because of total depravity or God's sovereignty preventing it. I don't see any other options. So unless you can enlighten me of something else the only one that doesn't go against what the bible says is total depravity.

This video is easily the best response to the problem of evil I’ve ever seen. The amount of research and time you put into these questions is astonishing. If only every Christian would watch your videos we would be doing everything we can to make this place like heaven. But unfortunately you have people like prosperity preachers who want to ignore reality and preach a false gospel while wasting money on private jets that could be used to go towards starving children in Africa. No wonder why God allows judgement to occur. And to answer the question at 43:11, are skeptics forgetting that Jesus taught us the way of God because he is the way, but yet some still ignored his message because of their selfish desires. Humans just aren’t interested in the good which makes me sad. But regardless. continue to preach the gospel IP!

@@themidnitemarauder941 It is an argument essentially outlining the concept of objective morality. 1. Natural laws cannot account for objective morality. 2. Objective morality exists. Conclusion: A transcendent being anchors objective morality. The conclusion follows from the two premises because if natural explanations cannot account for objective morality, God has to. Premise two is generally where the argument lies, and some atheists have taken the position of moral relativism, saying that no one does right or wrong. Genocide isn't "truly" wrong in moral relativism, and this has to be the position they take in order to maintain atheism. If a person however really believes that there really is true evils, like genocide, then there must be an anchor, and that anchor necessarily is omnibenevolent, something only possessed by an entity (one that is transcendent), AKA God.

@@TheSpacePlaceYT hey thanks for responding. I had a atheist make a naturalistic argument for objective morality recently. It was pretty good. The idea was that there was an organising principle at work shaping the universe and that morality emerged from this organising principle as the set of beliefs that would lead one to be in alignment or in harmony with the universal order. That being in harmony with the universal order was fundamentally healthy and that a misalignment produced eventual extinction of some kind. I just said “and this universal order I call God’s Will.”

I don't know if this is the answer you're looking for, but I hope it helps. God is a good, yes. But why didn't he do anything when millions of innocent people were dying? For me, it's because God has a better plan in store. We don't how, but it's something good. How about this, During the story of Exodus, the Israelites thought that God fell silent. That he wasn't answering their prayers and not intervening in their suffering. And one day, the pharaoh ordered the deaths of the Israelite boys by drowning in the Nile. But one of those boys, was a boy named Moses. God saved Moses and he was used by God to save Israel. God uses bad things so that good things will come out of it. As for your grandfather, whatever may happen to him. God uses it for good. But you have the free will to interpret that as you wish. I have had several experiences where God used bad things for good. I'll share one: My family was torn, My uncles and my father had problems with one another. But when one of my uncles tragically dies due to diabetes. It was a tragedy, yes. But in that moment our family realized how hard it is to lose a family member. Now my uncle wasn't a good man. None of us are. But he accepted Jesus shortly before he died. And in turn my family was closer than we ever were in 20 or so years. If you want, I'll pray for you and your grandfather. And that Jesus would bless you with love and wisdom. God bless.

Well some of the interference in the Bible may be simply allegorical storytelling to teach us a theological message, and the other interference in the Bible may simply be to prove to us that He is all powerful and all knowing etc etc, essentially showing He's trustworthy, because let's be real, without Him showing the Israelites how strong He is they would have never fulfilled their purpose in His plan. How he chooses when to intervene idk because I'm new to the philosophy of Christianity but I'm sure there's some explanation and it's probably along the lines of a "big plan". Sadly the whole "big plan" stuff is often the most we can say.

@@williamwright6457 That is a very poignant cause for your opinion on that matter and objectively, such a subjective valuation is perfectly valid. Sorry, but we have to war now, despite that being a blatant act of evil that makes me a huge hypocrite. Again, why? Cause, I'm an idiot and I'm using my free will to assault you. You accepting this war is actually very helpful of me! ^_^ For you see, I need to become a rubber mallet grandmaster, as that's the very same weapon I (sssh, super secretly) intend to use to take over the universe one day (Step one: go to heaven. Step two: take form of adorable chubby baby like you see on the youtubes. Step three: waddle up to Jesus and boop him with rubber mallet until he faints from cuteness overload cause I'm His naive child and fathers are weak against that. Step four: yay!). So I'm sorry. I know you don't want a war but I'm giving you no choice. I know this is rude, and I love you brother but...but...we have to 'cause I'm just not following you rationally here. O_o Please imagine me hitting you with a squeeky rubber mallet over this silly disagreement pretty please. At the pre-arranged war time of course. Thank you. My ego really needs that. ^_^ P.S. Oops! Both actually, we have a problem with both. That's the 2 problems christians have converting atheists. First it's bullshit, Second it's evil. You have to address both to convince us. And this video did a piss poor job of that, all it did was enrage me how monstrous the worldview of the video maker is.
@TheBrunarr
@TheBrunarr 5 жыл бұрын
@@thomasdwyer1690I didn't say atheists don't have a problem with both, just that one seems more of a problem than the other. "First it's bullshit." There's a reason the concept of gods existing has been around for millennia: the existence of one simple God for example is the most parsimonious conclusion to come to, aka it explains far more phenomena than atheism. Besides the fact that theism is parsimonious, it is very easy to come to the conclusion of God through logic and reason alone, and whenever I debate atheists they eventually attack logic itself which is usually where I declare myself the victor, lol "Second it's evil." God has to exist first for it to be evil, that's what my original comment alluded to, many atheists use "if God existed" arguments, which to me means they would be more open to His existence and less open to good and loving like I said. To say "it's evil" is an objective claim, and there is no objective morality without God, so unless God exists you can't say it's evil. This and the Sam Harris quote in the video seems to bolster my view, aka that the foundation of atheism isn't reason and evidence, but simply an emotional rejection. The logical and probabilistic problems of evil are easy to defeat because you can use logic, but the emotional problem remains, which I don't particularly care about because I'm more dedicated to logical proofs than consoling people. "And this video did a piss poor job of that, all it did was enrage me how monstrous the worldview of the video maker is." That's too bad, what he says here is obviously the case to me. What's given me a lot of clarity is 1. a lot of self-reflection, 2. checking my pride, and 3. valuing wisdom, and asking myself if the opinions and beliefs I hold are wise, not intelligent, but wise. My instant reaction to reading your comment and my reaction to most atheists is "man, there's no wisdom here," which gives more credence to Proverbs 9:10, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom..." a verse which many atheists I see don't actually understand which just goes to show its truth. Also how so many of the worst ideas have come from the secular world, all the trans and gender stuff, marxism, post modernism, the idiocy of professors, etc shows to me even more the truth of this verse. There are so many verses that clearly describe reality even today, it's not some outdated book about a sky daddy, not even close, it's so much more subtle and sophisticated. And before you say this is all preachy and pretentious, that's not an argument.

Your religion is absurd bullshit. As to your second objection that is one of the dumbest things I've read. Skeletor doesn't exist. The character Skeletor is evil. Emperor Palpatine from star wars doesn't exist, the CHARACTER Palpatine IS evil. And finally. God does not exist, THE CHARACTER OF GOD described in the bible IS evil. You also don't know what objective means. Since reality is objective, a morality based on reality HAS to be objective. BY DEFINITION. This is logic 101. "checking my pride", i stopped reading after that, your arrogance is astounding. What is more humble than admitting that we are not special, no one cares about us but us, we are all doomed to oblivion, and all we have to depend on is each other, spinning on a uncaring globe through the dark cold of the universe. That is as humble as it gets. That's the problem with you christians, you twist the definitions of words to make up equal down, and evil equal good. But you are not humble, you are arrogant, and your beliefs are not good, they are monstrously evil, by your own words in fact, and your world view and beliefs should make you feel shame for supporting them EVEN if they were true. The fact that they don't shows just how shameless you are. And I pity you and all christians for it.

Maybe if not in this lifetime, then maybe the next....that last part (reincarnation in human form) solves the problem of the justness of God..

@sivad1025

From a Christian POV, good comes from God. Without God, everything is selfishness. So when a mom saves a child, I think that's because humans have a natural response to protect their creations, a reflection of God's desire to protect His creations. That seems to be the exception, not the rule. The vast majority of the time, good is done by selfishness. A lot of Christians do good because they want to go to heaven or make God approve of them. That is good, but it has a selfish root. When you look at the world, you can usually find a motive behind everything. It's super hard to find truly selfless acts.

Did he do it only because they were innocent children? Would he have done the same for a pedophile? I could be wrong, but I highly doubt it. And I highly doubt it because the only reason we(humans) do anything at all is for self interest. Don't forget what he said in the video, that just because a criminal obeys traffic stop law's does not mean he is good but only does it for self interest to not get in a wreck. Seeing those innocent children be subject to harm saddens ME. If you think you (not specifically targeting you but any person) are different, it's because you have truly come to believe so. But belief doesn't make something true. Again, remember what is being said in the video. That there is plenty of opportunities people have to help others but just because it's not right there happening now infront of them they don't anything about it and instead use their resources, skills, etc. for their own self interest.

So is the point of this life to to develop our relationship with God, then we choose to be sanctified after we die? What about newborn babies that die then? They pretty much get sanctified right away with no choice on their part. (Or they go to hell, but from my experience, no Christians I know of believe that.) In that case why not just have us all be sanctified right away? Then there will never have been any evil and suffering to begin with.

"Free will" is never to be understood in an absolute sense, it is always relative. The French philosopher Descartes articulated this aptly: "My freedom - and accordingly my free will - ends where the freedom of the other begins". There are always limits, even when it comes to free will. If the earth is a house, God is the owner and we are the tenants, then God has to set the freedom and its limits, figuratively speaking the "house rules". He is also responsible for ensuring that no one perpetrates abuses, be it in the form of violence, malice, war, torture or atrocities. But God hasn't done this in the past six thousand years. Not from the start. He let everything go. Does that mean taking responsibility for one's defenseless and helpless creatures? Genesis would have to be rewritten, where Descartes' principle is applied and thus the "free will" is reduced to what it is: relative and never absolute.

My notes, 23:40 "no one (man) is good, righteous." Yesterday I watched the movie "Kenen"/"Thicker than water" (2018). All man found to be guilty, hence why the main message of Gospel (good spell, God spell) is repentence. 27:12 "why do bad things happened to good people?" First, how do you know they are good people? Second, bad things could happen to good people because there are bad people, those bad things comes from bad people. There are no good if there is no bad, just like there are no win if there are no lose. The question then why there are good and bad? The answer is because there is free will. 29:25 "we are not created (meant) to be this way; do evil, be evil." To enter a game we were not intended to lose, we were intended to win, to enter a game and win is righteousness, to enter a game and lose is sin. To have free will and do/be evil is sin/wrong/lose, to have free will and do/be good is righteousness/win. "We are created (meant) to be this way; do good, be good." 30:50 "represent us..." Adam led us out from the garden, Yeshua led us back into the garden. Use your image of God, soverignty, free will to choose which son of God will you follow. 31:45 "life without free will..." Imagine there is no evil... Imagine there is no bitterness... Imagine there is no lose... Isn't it wonderful... Imagine.. oh wait, if there is bitterness, lose and evil then there is no sweet, win and good. You take what makes evil possible in life, you'll also take what makes good possible in life, so to ask is that good? Well no! Is that bad? No! What is then? I Don't know. Its like I don't want to play a game, I don't want to live. Nihilsm. Life without free will is nihil. Existence without meaning, fire without burn, water without wet... Absurd. 36:43 we think death is created, meant, intended. Wrong. Life is created, meant, intended, death is the absence of life, the absence of create, mean, intent. Just like dark is the absence of light. Bad, evil is the absence of good, God. 41:10 world without consequences. If God intervene in our soverignty, then there is no soverignty at all. If God control our freedom, then there is no freedom at all. Its not free if its controled, its not sovereign if its intervened. 50:00 - love - life - free will - sin - repentence - righteousness - resurection - life - love - ...Ki le olam has dow... Eternal love Yeshua Hamasiach God Gin,

The moment God creates a rational creature with the capability of free will, be it in heaven or on earth, he as creator takes full responsibility for everything that comes out of it. For better or for worse. And God as omniscient must have known that this experiment could also turn out very badly. That it could corrupt from the start. And so it did. "God is dead, remains dead and we killed him." -Friedrich Nietzsche Honestly, there are a lot of truth in this, 1.God is dead = Yes he is dead because he died on the cross. 2.Remains dead = Yes because he remains on the tomb until his resurrection. 3.We killed him = Yes because our sins brought him to the cross.

Can we do "The Problem of Suffering?" Because the evil caused by moral agents isn't the same as asking why God would allow natural disasters, unfortunate accidents, vicious diseases, debilitating genetic mutations, etc. I usually explain that with either some vague recollection of The Fall (where moral evil broke the world by an unknown mechanism and for an unknown reason causing suffering to enter into nature, independent of agency) OR that those natural, seemingly free-of-choice causes of suffering are the result of invisible free agents (demonic spirits) that are wreaking havoc upon God's creation. I'd be interested to see a video with your research-based take.

The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. Wow my mind is blown right now. “Evil exist because we exist” and “why do good things happen to good people? That only happened once and he volunteered” so true!!!! We give ourselves so much credit where credit is not due, mused included because I compare myself to murders and rapists and think because I don’t do that than I am somehow better but the truth is, I am not, none of us are good but God. I am lucky enough to live a life in America middle to lower class but have food and a old car that runs and surrounded by people who love me and who I love but faced with different scenarios than who knows what any of us are capable of. Evil is obviously deep inside us whether we want to believe it or not. Since I have been born again recently, I surely have changed, I feel it but I am still a sinner but better at fighting those sins since I am constantly thinking about Jesus and what he endured on the cross. I feel like Gods love for us is so strong that he would do it just to save one of us and yet he saved us all if we just believe in his life, death and resurrection. Praise God for his mercy and grace, his patience and love for us.

Epicurus quote is still unresolved if the Christian god is ALL loving and ALL good. Is it perhaps he is not ALL loving? Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

It was answered his argument is a non sequitur since it forgets others of gods attributes. I think you did not get the information maybe was not that clear but his argument is fallacious. When the ten God is used in the argument there are thing that go with it and those are reasons for a good god to not stop evil.

The late German psychoanalyst Arno Grün gave an interesting explanation of what "evil" is in his last book "Dem Leben entfremdet" ("Alienated to life"). For him, it has to do with the ability to empathize. He estimates that a third of people have no empathy - a defect in the human brain - and are therefore capable of the worst deeds without blinking an eyelid. Another third have empathy and tend "towards the good", whatever "good" means. The third third behaves appropriately, depending on how the wind blows. For Arno Grün, "good" and "evil" are no formal terms that can be categorized. Rather, they describe our feelings and our value system towards the behaviour of other human beings.

The inhumane(or humane) nature of humans is actually why I ended up appreciating the Dark Knight. The Joker makes a very valid point when he points out to Batman that he was basically just what everyone else was, except he's just 1 bad day ahead, a point he later proves with Harvey Dent's madness. The problem with people today, is that we are so quick to vilify without ever considering the darkness within. Many look back at people like Hitler and Co, calling them mad men, refusing to recognize that they all started out as normal, everyday people. One strange event- just ONE- changed a lot of these people and drove them towards the edge. It's not that anyone is good, it's that(like the Joker points out), we are only as good as society allows us to be. In the worst possible situations, we reveal our worst possible selves, EVERY SINGLE TIME in history. In fact, virtually every bit of good created in the world today, has a selfish motive behind it. People are just a little too arrogant to believe/agree with this. Deep inside, we know there's a part of us doing it for our own good first.

Have you read the “the killing joke” it Re-tells the story of how the joker became the joker, in short he was once normal had a job as a stand up comedian was married and his wife was pregnant, after the loss of his wife and child the joker loses it and after falling into a pool of acid he ruins his face and becomes the “joker”, towards the end after capturing and torturing Gordon, Batman finally catches the joker in which the joker then argues with him, as to why he should kill him hence “the killing joke” he argues in hopes that he can get Batman to contradict his morals and fall prey to subjectivism even in spite of him losing his own life, using purely rational arguments he dismantles everyone of Batman’s virtues and self prescribed moral duties using parallels of his tragedy and Batman’s, to show that Batman is just as insane as he himself is....Batman defeated in the quasi debate remains silent with no rational defense for his way of life, other than the intuition for what he believes. The writers said that they wanted to parallel the similarities between the joker and Batman in that they both faced tragedies, where as Batman spent his life forging meaning from it, the joker spent his reflecting on the absurdity of life. The story for me is one of my favorites because it highlights just how far one can go when they conceptualize life in purely rational means, all the while leaving Batman silent, holding fast to his beliefs, we get to experience what Batman did in that we still perceive him as being in the right despite not having a rebuttal to give the joker. It also highlights the idea that, there may not always be a rational reason for doing the right thing. Ultimately I agree with most your comment except the last bit, there are people who do things with no self interest, there have been men who have jumped on grenades, or have taken bullets for others, etc.

The Joker's message is so apropos now. He makes that point about how everyone is fine if a gang-banger gets shot or a truck of soldiers gets blown up... but they freak out when one tiny old mayor dies. Because it's inhumane? No, because it's part of the plan. You're seeing this play out with Covid. Everyone freaked out and reported every single death the first few weeks. Now, more deaths from Covid is just shrugged off because it's part of the plan. Eventually, we're no longer going to view Covid as an extreme evil because it's just going to blend in with all the other evil in the world, natural and man-made.

I lived in Lebanon during the civil war, societies behave in different manners for different reasons, and what you described as evil is merely fear that has triggered that reaction, it could be certain beliefs or some ignorance. In fact, these societies between themselves were loving and United. Evil is only defined on the individual, and sadly some individuals ended up as leaders. I prey that we all wake up one day and understand that love is our only healer.
