IMHO, Jesus nested his inner looking spiritual teachings inside the shell of local, outer looking religious doctrine for his time and place. His popularity today seems more to do with the Roman Paul’s teaching that worshipping him is what gets you to heaven. Many Christians do not follow his path. They simply worship him and create him in their image. It’s easy to be that kind of Christian. It doesn’t require one to improve their quality of virtue and vise. The Kingdom of a Heaven within, is his Hebrew/Jewish version of Buddhas Nirvana. Not a place, just as you so clearly said. But a state of being. Nice Placing his tough, personal teaching inside of a tasty candy shell makes it travel far and wide. The parable and cryptic verse is that vehicle.

Jesus's teachings of love. compassion, and nonviolence are very similar to the teachings of Upanishads and and Jainism. Upanishads teach nonviolence ( ahimsa) . Jainism emphasizes love and compassion towards all forms of life and self denial. The Upanishads are full of theory, philosophy , and intellectualization of the morals they recommend. Jainism emphasizes on simple practice , as does Jesus. No wonder the boundaries between Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism are very fluid.

I really like the idea that people would recognise Christians for the love they have for one another. When I was a Christian, I learned that that idea had to modified to allow for human beings being imperfect. So one could be a believer and not show love for other Christians.

Brendan, you have really put your finger on something important about Christianity, and how its commonly practiced. This business of Original Sin, and "hate the sin, not the sinner," leaves the door wide open for just the sort of behavior you describe -- claiming membership in Christianity while behaving hatefully. I gravitate strongly toward the notion that Christianity (or any authentic moral or spiritual or religious or philosophical system) is less a disembodied set of beliefs and doctrines, and more a way of being in the world, a way of life, a way of treating others. If it doesn't show up in your actions, I really don't care what concepts you say you believe in. I mean really, so what? It is by our fruits, not our seeds that we are known.

@@PeterBolland Thanks, Peter. I always had some small sense that scripture was being abused there. I never realised how much until, years after I left the faith, I came across John Vervaeke's lecture on Christ And Agape. John' s explanation of how agape and for(e)giveness worked within Christianity blew my mind. I hadn't realised how high Jesus had set the bar. I really enjoy your teaching style man! It really seems like you’re speaking directly from your soul. I think you would really enjoy studying some preterist work within Christendom (full-preterism is most consistent). It was seeing this that led me out of fundamentalism/Christianity. Googling "preterism"... Thanks for teaching me a new word! I had no idea. I can't believe how much more there is to discover down the windy halls of theology. This is fascinating. I like it! Personally, I tend to interpret it all as mythological or allegorical. The second coming, for example, is just a dramatic way of talking about the awakening we're all (hopefully) heading toward. Just as traditional apocalyptic literature is really about change, impermanence, and what is revealed. I will study preterism more. Thanks.

@@PeterBolland awesome man! Glad I could introduce you. I have some playlists on preterism i e gathered on my channel that explains the subject. It’s very fascinating! They give some great insight into interpreting the apocalyptic literature / symbols of scripture. It’s very eye opening to how the Hebrews understood these symbols such as “day of the Lord” “Lord coming in the clouds” “sun/moon/stars” etc... after watching your video on the gospel of Thomas I was sure you would enjoy studying this because preterists understand the kingdom, the ressurection (ressurection not physical but spiritual and meaning one will never taste death), etc... more along a gnostic lense.

@@kha30s22 Hmm good question.. If you're looking for something practical there's a 2 part book series I've been going through recently that I believe may provide you exactly what you're looking for. It's called "Hermetic Yoga - Beyond The Middle Pillar" a part one and 2. The second part gets more in depth into the Christian/gnostic magick. That book may set you on the right path and suggest other works that would lead you in the right direction. (edit - weird a bunch of stuff I wrote disappeared. It must not have been very important haha. Much love my friend ❤)

Jesus clearly explains who he is in the gospels, Jesus said he is the SON Of God, the bible says he is the Son of Man, he is revered as God but he is not, he said his Father is greater than I, when he returns, he knows not, only my Father knows, he sits at the right hand of the Father and he also told us that no man comes to the Father except through him. Jesus is who he says he is, the Son of God, Jesus was the last blood sacrifice for mans sins, he was the last blood offering for the redemption of sins otherwise we would still be killing the fattest goat or sheep as a burnt offering to God on a monthly basis, Mary is the mother of the Son of God, for God is a Spirit, he is the Holy Spirit and they that worship him must worship him in Spirit and in truth. GOD is the great I AM not the great we are. In your prayers, never leave out the Father, too many people are doing that lately, love the Lord your God, with all your heart soul and mind, the first and greatest commandment.

@@larzhillbot1443 It is easy to ambiguously pontificate on nebulous "aspects of God" thereby obscuring the truth that is. While I agree "We are ALL aspects of God", you seem to dismiss the fact, these "aspects" exist, move and have their being in a 'system'. Granted, "Christianity is a mess". However, the mess is woven by man and evil entities around a God given nugget of truth. Some are able to walk right to it, while others must study and search. Yeshua IS the way, the truth and the life, Not "Christianity".

The problem with Jesus was he is on a whole another spiritual level than others. What he appeared to say was quite different than what he really was saying. At times he even seemed to contradict the scriptures, and his own words. Its no surprise that the gospels mention people labelling him as insane and demon possessed. Jesus's lack of speaking plainly irritated even his closest followers. Nobody could understand guy. Over 2000 years later, and people are still struggling to understand what Jesus meant.

@@larzhillbot1443 I can relate to your perspective. I've wrestled with the Bible for years. Trying to be obedient to it has done much damage to my life. Years of needless pain and stagnation cuz I kept turning the other cheek. However in spite of all of my naivety, I came to realize that the Bible comes from a foreign and primitive culture. It's a collection of ideas from people trying to do good according to their limited understanding. I now see that the Biblical principles can be helpful or harmful depending on situation. Turning the cheek is not always the best thing. Likewise busting somebody in their cheek is not always the best thing either. People must have the wisdom and intelligence to recognize this.

The Sanhedrin had no legal authority to convict or execute crimes of treason against the Roman Empire. Were they instrumental in Jesus’ arrest? That seems so. Then they handed him over to the Romans. Jesus, and many other revolutionary leaders, were executed by the Romans.

The Imams I know study and deeply respect the world's many religions with the understanding that God goes by different names in different cultures, but behind all of the masks is the One, known in their tradition as Allah, "The God." Arguing about which "God" is the real "God" misses the point entirely. May all our spiritual wisdom traditions join us together instead of separating us into competing hierarchical tribes.

1. Can Jesus prove his lineage back to David? The Pedigrees in Matthew 1:2-17 (28 names) and Luke 3:23-38 (43 names) disagree, yet both are said to be Joseph’s lineage. 2. Matthew includes 4 women in Joseph’s lineage (Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and Bathsheba) Luke does not. The Torah counts one’s lineage only through the fathers, Genesis 5, Numbers 1:2, 17-18. 3. Who knew about the Virgin Birth? Only Matthew and Luke seem to know anything about a virgin birth. If something as miraculous as a virgin birth had occurred, it seems odd that Mark and John did not mention it in their effort to convince their readers that Jesus was who they claimed him to be. In contradiction, Paul never mentions a virgin birth (insisting he was born of a woman) even though it would have strengthened his claim if he had. See Romans 1:3 and Galatians 4:4. 4. When was Jesus born? Matthew 2:1 says Jesus was born during the time of Herod. Luke 2:2 says that he was born was born during the first census in Israel, while Quirinus was governor of Syria. This is not possible because Herod died in about 4 B.C., and the census took place in 6 and 7 A.D., about 10 years after Herod’s death. 5. Why can’t the gospel writers agree on the order in which the disciples were selected? In Matthew 4:18-22 and Mark 1:16-20, Peter and Andrew are casting nets into the sea. Jesus calls out to them and they leave their nets and follow him. Jesus then goes on a little further and sees James and John mending their nets with their father. He calls to them and they leave their father and follow him. In Luke 5:1-11, Jesus asks Peter to take him out in Peter’s boat so Jesus can preach to the multitude. James and John are in another boat. When Jesus finishes preaching, he tells Peter how to catch a great quantity of fish (John 21:3-6 incorporates this story in a post- resurrection appearance). After Peter catches the fish, he and James and John are so impressed that after they bring their boats to shore they leave everything and follow Jesus. In John 1:35-42, Andrew hears John the Baptist call Jesus the Lamb of Yah. Andrew then stays with Jesus for the remainder of the day and then goes to get his brother Peter and brings him to meet Jesus. 6. The Great Catch - Luke and John disagree when the great catch took place (see above). 7. When did John the Baptist first meet Jesus and when did he first know who Jesus was? John the Baptist’s first encounter with Jesus was while both of them were still in their mothers’ wombs, at which time John, apparently recognizing his “Saviour,” leaped for joy (Luke 1:44). Much later, while John is baptizing (John 1:29, 36) he refers to Jesus as “the Lamb of Yah who takes away the sins of the world”, and “the Son of Yah”. John’s recognition of Jesus as the son of Yah and Saviour of the world is explicitly contradicted by Luke 7:18-23 in which the imprisoned John sends two of his disciples to ask Jesus, “Are you the one who is coming, or do we look for someone else?” 8. When was Jesus baptized? Luke, who claims to be chronological (Luke 1:3), gives the impression that John did not baptize Jesus. Luke’s account of Jesus’ baptism occurs after the account of John’s imprisonment (Luke 3:20-21). John 1:25-34 indicates that John baptized Jesus before Jesus’ ministry began. If you need more inspiration give me a shout! May JeZEUS continue to guide you!
