Hell it's too barebones even when going through the palettes the first time. You've already basically done everything by the time you're on your third run at most. And the most fun stages are the ones that weren't reused for multiple different objectives and things because they were able to focus on making a fun stage instead of a reusable stage.

yeah like I played through every single rigorous level by the end of my first full clear. It's pretty sad that after such a long wait there's such small level variety. Like this feels like salmon run with less unique enemies and no bosses

For me, I think the most annoying part is the lack of a post-game way to change the Biases, or even experiment with Color Chips outside of gwtting lucky on a run or replaying the "Epic, Vibrant Battle". You know what would be cool? If, after completing the Octoshot run, any Color chip you've maxed out can then be used while in the lobby floor, so you can trial different builds or experiment with what Chips effect what.

And also I think they could've put dummies resembling different enemies you encounter in the Spire, just like how Salmon Run presents you with dummies that resemble different Boss Salmonids and Lesser Salmonids. Or put a single enemy of one type in the floor to see how they work, just like the Copy Machine in the lobby

Since Eight is the player character and thus doesn’t have a particularly defined personality, I was expecting their palette to have the gimmick of being able to change their two common chip colours (maybe coming with some prepackaged chip bias), as well as bomb and special layout. Being able to pick whatever bias you want along with making whatever loadout you want would’ve been a nice reward for clearing the lockers.

It’s weird bc in the diaries it’s like “oh well I’m making the memverse to give the sanitized Octarians their memories back” “oh agent 8 can finally remember” but nothing like that happened whatsoever. That was literally the reason for it. Why didn’t it happen.

Yea, it would’ve been awesome if we actually got to SEE the sanitized octolings in the square, thriving with the inklings and no longer under tartar’s control. We don’t even know where the sanitized octos are!

fr, like i get acht is there but acht doesnt even have a pallete so we dont get to recover their memory/soul??? and it wouldve been interesting if there were some story focussed levels going into the background of the character of each pallet. like exploring their character backstory and inner psychr turned into a level. that would be a really interesting way to show of every character one last time before we move on to a new cast in the next game, since this will most likely be the last story mode with them

A couple more things they could add: 1. Endless mode; a endless mode thats actually endless, compared to just 100 levels. A boss every 20 levels. You can switch out a chip if you want from your pallet. 2. Inner agent 4; a vending machine spawns somewhere in the order sector. You can fight inner agent 4, the fight is very simillar to inner agent 3 3. More Cipher items. I have 7000 plz and nothing to spend them on, adding the items from the order vs. chaos splatfest? Or atlease Pearl and Marinas and Achts outfits

6:34 I really agree with that whole thing of trying to get the low hacks eight’s pallate badge is harder than inner agent 3 for pretty much the same reasons! I have the badge and I was encouraging a friend to get it too but they basically said, “what’s the point if I already have the octoshot?” It would’ve been cool if there was a bigger reward to encourage players to finish a no-hack run with the octoshot. I really did enjoy this dlc though and I hope the developers keep branching out and doing new things with future story modes! TLDR: Bigger reward is needed for a no-hack octoshot run.

Personally I found turning all the hacks on and having fewer chips much harder than turning the hacks off and getting more chips-kinda confused me that the path to not getting the badge is harder than getting it.

This clearly had some issues during development, the expansion was delayed, the tower looks completely different in the trailer and it implied that the story was supposed to be much different seemingly diving deep into Eight's trauma. Instead it is just "Blow up this thing and watch Pearl and Marina flirt" rinse and repeat.

While I loved side order, my biggest issue would always been how easy it is to see everything it has to offer. You run out of stage variations and new dialog so quickly for something ment to be replayed a lot. I gave up trying to get all the chips 5 times since I didn't have a new use for prlz and didn't have trouble getting through the tower. Just wasn't lucky enough to see 5 copies of certain chips. I would have atleast loved to have more dialog to find. Especially since that seems like the easiest content to make. Maybe that was an intentional design choice? Or maybe they didn't have enough time to add more. Who can say?

I'd say it was a bad story mode considering the lack of a story it had. Like Splatoon 3's was already bottom tier, but at least it had a good final mission that saved the rest of it. Side Order? It has nothing. Almost no dialogue, the levels aren't fun and are too repetitive, even the final boss of Side Order is just a reskinned Marina boss fight. It's so lame how this DLC offers nothing of value. When OE came out, it took Splatoon 2 from a half sequel to a full sequel. When Side Order came out? It turned a quarter sequel into a half sequel.

Before the release i already guessed it would be so hard to incorporate a really good story in a splatoon game if they went the roguelite route. On release, it was good for me, exceeds my expectation a bit, but maybe not for others.

I think it's the matter of other rougelikes is having SHITTON of content, even after you first beat it. Sure, I still had to beat the game with 11 different weapons, beat all the jelletons and max out the chips, but since it's only 30 stages each time with the same gimmicks, it gets stale and repeatable after a longer while, you've already seen everything. I had to play for less than a week to have everything maxed out, and while I did have fun, I feel like they could've shoved way more stuff in there, add more stackes to the Agent 8's pallete run, added more stuff to buy with PRLZ or hell, even an ability to exchange them for coins. It hurts cause I genuinely had fun playing Side Order and I love the story bits they dropped in here and there, but I just really want MORE of overall everything yknow

THIS! Imo SO is a really bad rougelite because compared to something like Hades, Isac, FTL etc it barely has any replayability or content.

@@minecraftcreeper777 I didn’t forget anything. Hades, an indie game launched for $19.99 US or £17.99 GBP. Meanwhile Side Order costs £22.49. If you’re going to sell me a product for more than a competitor I should probably be able to expect the same amount of content as that competitor. Especially when one of the main selling points of the product is how much content (replayabilty) it has.

Roguelites need lots of content to thrive, Side Order had no reasons to be bare bones, that's why I think Side Order should've been bigger or saved for a spinoff game. Or at least this dlc should not have been $25 dollars.

I personally liked side order, and have done 20+ runs at this point, but I think they should've added more bosses along with some more stages that lean into more singleplayer unique gimmics (ex. bounce pad islands, ink rails/grind rails that lead to separated islands, and maybe play into having more height differences). Also the jumping enemies are weak and could have maybe be buffed or had added gimmics (maybe slanted splashdowns or splashdown rushes[bomb-rush but with splashdown]).

As a self-imposed challenge, I did complete Hackless Octoshot and IT TOOK ME OVER 30 TRIES, including dying in the final stage of 30F. Motivation definitely died down thereafter. Surprised me to see no additional rewards other than Max Risky Rewards In my honest opinion, this DLC does not have the same level of vibes as Octo Expansion and I was expecting to learn more about Eight. Sure, Acht's story is also very interesting but Eight themselves are left behind. Overall, despite the criticism, I do enjoy Side Order, and its runtime definitely stood past Octo Expansion. However, its impact is less than its predecessor and I wish it was just as good.

You bring up the exact points I would have. The Octo Expansion left a cultural impact and changed the Splatoon series forever. I don’t think Side Order will have this kind of impact or longevity, which is sad, because I enjoyed the atmosphere of the first Side Order trailer a lot more than the later ones, and I do think that first draft would’ve had that kind of impact. the more old-fashioned elevator with pillars next it being changed to a sleeker, more modern one along with the black spikes and isolated atmosphere shown in the concept art being removed tells me that Side Order had a very different mood planned that I would’ve enjoyed more than what we got in the end. I hope that some of the scrapped concepts for side order will be reused in some way for splatoon 4.

honestly, I love this DLC so much because it got me actually playing Splatoon again after I stopped working through it (Went on vacation, brought my switch, took months to set it up with my TV again) the Idea of monochrome runs really excited me, as did the concept of using the tower to improve my awareness and reaction times more, so playing actual battles feels better. I actually really like the chill vibes and aesthetic, because it makes it easier to let go of frustration compared to dying a bunch in a battle mode (downside of being a noob/kinda bad player).

Not everyone was 100% happy with Mr. Grizz's portrayal in ROTM, but overall, that campaign had a much better narrative and presentation than Side Order. Nothing in Side Order comes close to being as cool or atmospheric as the rocket ambience, for example. Coolest piece of environmental storytelling in Splatoon ever.

3:50 I disagree with the first part of the criticism. You can't have a threat that keeps increasing in magnitude or else you get basically power creep. What's after a villain wanting to take over the world? The Solar System? The Galaxy? It gets to a point where it's too overwhelming and unrealistic. The lore of Side Order just feels a bit unfinished. We don't learn anything about Eight despite completing her Palette nor do we learn the ramifications of Marina essentially destroying the octoling engineer's "perfect world of order". It just needs another cutscene or two to make it feel complete and not open ended

On the first point: they could've made it where when choosing the octo shot, it turns off ALL hacks be default. This would have helped players be very intentional with what we turn on and the price we pay with chip slots

It needed way more lore, maybe you'd be able to see into the characters memories every couple of floors with their pallet? Especially for 8. Maybe when you finish the game you actually see more sanitized octarians and octolings as that was the purpose of the memverse. They have such a cool thing and at the end it's just kinda like "yeah, that happened, this is the memverse"

I really wish they could quicken the pace of the game, or rather, moments where we "don't play the game". The floor change animation takes about 3 seconds. The winning screen took another 3 seconds. We need to walk a bit far to reach the vending machine. And so on. One roguelites that i like is Nuclear Throne. Floor changing is almost instant. The moment you get hit on low HP, the death screen immediately shows up with no delay, and you could just press restart quickly to redo the run with the same character and weapon. Things like that makes me want to play the game "once more", over and over again.

Yup, the main punishment for getting splatted in Side Order isn't losing your run progress, but having to trudge back into the elevator and mash through more dialogue you've seen 15 times already. A quick restart option & other quality of life features would help so much in my goal of beating each palette hackless 😢

the problem with side order is that salmon run feels more like a roguelike than side order does. also it's more challenging which i enjoy (i got the octoshot and low-hacks badge on my first try and i was disappointed bc i thought it would be more difficult)

How is side order a rougelike? A rouge like is a game that you get stronger every time you die, so is intentionally more difficult then normal games, like side order. Theres no strength progression in grizzco other then you just getting better at the game

All I wanted from Side Order’s NG+ was a custom palette that lets you pick any weapon, sub weapon, special weapon, and chip bias that you want. Personally, the only replay value in Side Order past 100% completion is coming up with crazy build ideas and trying them out, but I hate fighting RNG and hunting for multiple specific off-color chips is so tedious and not fun. Obviously a custom palette would make every other palette irrelevant, but you have to complete every palette for 100% completion anyway so it doesn’t really matter.

I must play Octo-Expansion again cuz i completed low-octo pallet first try and i was impressed that you said that Inner Ag. 3 was easier, prob i was just skilless 6 years ago but really i was kinda shocked Update 8 days later; After completing every level with every weapon and beating Inner Agent 3, i can confirm that Octoexpansion is 100% worth to replay, also i beat Inner Agent 3 in the forth try so maybe low hack eight pallet is harder just for the time you take to end the tower

The roguelite aspect is SUPER fun and IMO much more enjoyable than ROTM, so I really hope they'll do it again and improve upon it.

Great video! I agree that Side Order is still good and worth playing, but it didn't quite live up to the hype. I have a lot of thoughts so this is going to be a long comment (I'm sorry). TLDR: The story didn't keep its momentum after the prologue and imo had a "tell, don't show" problem. Gameplay-wise it was good, but we could've had more variety and customization options to keep us interested longer. Story-wise, I think what might have contributed to Side Order being so underwhelming was the prologue. Don't get me wrong, it was good: too good, actually. What came after did not keep the same momentum. The expectations for the DLC were placed on saving Marina, that was our main task and a big point of intrigue. For her to be saved during the prologue was a huge surprise to me! It made me think "If that's just the prologue, the stakes after this must be incredibly high!". They weren't. There weren't any surprises after the prologue aside from the fake-out ending, so everything played out mostly as expected. The threat also didn't have much space or time to build, so it didn't feel tangible enough for me to feel it. An example is how we were told that the real Inkopolis Square was in danger, but we didn't get to see the threat in action. Another example is the main villain of Side Order. Order as a villain felt incomplete, we only really see it on the last floor and its presence isn't really felt throughout the Spire. Now I know it remodeled the Spire for its goal, so technically it *is* everywhere, but I wish they did a better job showing us instead of telling us. After your first clear the big villain turns into a harmless little guy which, though a cute twist, happens way too early. After one clear you lose the threat and most story reasons to climb the Spire again. I don't really consider reconfiguring the palettes to be a good enough story incentive because again, it was told not shown. It feels like the developers were afraid of locking the "good ending" behind multiple clears, which I think harmed the replayability of the DLC. There's also the issue of the main plot never really progressing, which other people have mentioned. We start with "Marina made a virtual reality meant to help reverse the sanitization process", and we end with "Marina made a virtual reality meant to help reverse the sanitization process". The threat didn't force us to change course, and we didn't even get to see the virtual reality do what it was created for. The plot of Side Order lacked in impact on the world of Splatoon, and with its lack of high stakes felt like just a bump in the road. So if there's not much story incentive to climb the Spire again, the rogue-like genre starts relying on gameplay reasons to keep you playing. Fortunately, the gameplay felt fairly well balanced in my opinion. Though as mentioned in the video the rewards are definitely a bit lackluster, but I don't think that's my biggest complaint. I wish there could have been more things to spend your Prlz on, but specifically within the DLC. Not locker decorations or items, but more customizable upgrades that can be used in the Spire outside of hacks. It would have been a great way to change a palette's bias, guarantee certain chips in a run, whatever else that felt like it could have been customized and maybe even experiment with single-use buffs. That way we wouldn't have players maxing out on Prlz with nothing to spend them on. Last thing which might be more of a nitpick, but I would've liked more contrast between each section of floors. The vibe changes a bit with the music and colours (kind of), but the gameplay is more or less the same. The objectives are the same, the bonus and danger modifiers are the same, and you fight the same enemies (with the occasional stronger ones that I don't think show up in earlier floors). Even just a reskin of the same enemies might have helped each section feel more unique. To conclude, I want to reiterate that I think Side Order was good! The devs turned Splatoon into a rogue-like, and it worked really well. "Could be better" doesn't mean bad, and with how much I played the DLC I can't lie: I had fun :) If you read all of this, thank you! And please don't forget to drink some water!

I agree with the points made and would like to add that it would have been interesting if after the first run that only some NPCs act normal and the rest are either frozen or really spaced out at least. Then we’d have some semblance of a threat, since I agree that it felt kind of eh. Still loved side order though! :)

I really wanted to get some more lore on acht. i just wasnt satisfied with those entires.. why are they STILL sanitized? is there a reason their eyes are so different? why did they join the octoling army? for marina? why is their name the german (which is weird, because it's a forgotten language for them) word for eight? did they used to be eight BEFORE eight? where did they even come from and HOW did they get in the elevator? there's so much that could've been touched on but was pretty much a huge nothing burger. i also wish you got a seperate rainbow chip badge for showing you completed all the chip data.

something small i hear no one talk about is a bug with the final bosses text/speech. I've noticed that the text would be completely different then what's going on making me lose my best octo shot run yet because of a un announced stingray while in crabtank not to mention how punishing it feels to even use this special min the first place because of low speed and still taking heavy blows while inside

The only complaints I have with SO that you didn't say was more variation on stages weather it be gimmicks or not + bosses. The biggest offender aside from those is how they handled weapon specific chips, I don't like how they're not part of the weapon's bias or at least more common to get especially if you're trying to fully research the chips

Side order's story is the same problem I had to deal with with Alterna: all the lore is tucked away behind collectable encyclopedia while the main story is dealing with cringe character interactions. Props to the people that enjoy it, but it doesn't motivate me to play.

I honestly have somehow not gotten tired of side order, I love playing with different weapons and destroying enemies with different builds. I do have to say, I wish there were different maps or even randomly generated. I also wish I could start with different weapons that would have different drawbacks.

@@ayskaripepperooni2770No they are random for each person. The only two guaranteed pallets are marina’s and agent 8’s. Marina’s is always first and agent 8’s being last

Side Order is great for someone like me who doesn't have all the time in the world for video games in general. However, my one criticism with Side Order is that there is not a true extended mode (probably up to floor 100). Might seen hypocritical at first, but when I do have free time, I'd like to spend more time with a perfect build. In this mode, the Palette would now be capped at 54 color chips but when it gets full, instead of choosing a floor, it's randomized with a boss still being at every 10 floors (you can change the boss you want to fight and the repeat final boss is offered as a choice as well with membux). In exchange for more power, the Jellotons get stronger and the likelihood of a danger event is higher. When you get closer to the max floor, there's a change to have 3 danger events at once. Lorewise this can be explained as a side effect against beating the final boss with all palettes and would also be a great reward. Can't believe Nintendo didn't think of something like that.

2:45 And then there's me who still activates the Shel-drone and buys Cipher's daily thing everyday I'm playing Splatoon 3. And honestly, that's not much effort. If you can even call it that. And the stuff you get from Cipher can be pretty good at times. Which can be 30k cash, a +100% cash or experience ticket or 5 ability chunks of one type. Yes, there's still a 70% chance for other stuff, but it's still worth it. Especially if you activate both things everyday (at best).

Got bored tonight so i'll comment 1:04 Or a hacks preset slots like how Freshest Fits works for gears rn. 4:22 t's hard to escalate the stakes from previous games really. Splat 1 and 2 were just fighting bad gangs (Octarians). Octo expansion fighting a machine that could sanitize the entire inkopolis (city level threat), and Splat 3 fighting a bear that could fuzzify the entire earth. And the trilogy of Splatoon (Splatastic Saga they said) is already done, there isn't any big threat left. So then Marina accidentaly created one😅 4:32 yeah this one annoys me. Octo expansion's secret boss adds so much to both him and Eight's personality and lore while being just a simplistic fight (in concept). 4:51 Octo expansion had a high impact because it adds a whole new race for us to play, the Octolings, something that we really wants since the first game. The Octoling themselves (Agent 8) got so much personality from their mem cakes, their voice, animations, etc. that translates into memes, fanfics, fanarts, and much more. Unfortunately we don't get a new race (or atleast hairstyles) in side order. 5:52 while i love the straightforward approach of lore in side order, it narrows the space for theorizing 6:32 yeah while it was harder, it doesn't feel as personal as IA3. We're presented with an enemy we don't expect, someone familiar, in a time setting that we don't know, with the highest difficulty ever in Splatoon singleplayer history (at that time). "I want to beat him" feels different than " I want to beat this challange" Another thing that you haven't talked about is something that ScottFalco talked on his video, about how runs more and more feels repetitive, because the enemy varieties are underwhelming compared to other roguelikes.

I agree with most of this: Max Prlz with nothing to use them towards, done all weapons, badges, ect. Monochrome runs were fun but there is no sense of "Hey you did this?! Nice work have this mini reward!" Story I was fine with, nothing overbearing and slowly fed to you. The lore not being dropped on you all time like waterfall and instead you choosing to look it up is an interesting approach. But just my opinion! Overall if I had to choose what to add: It be more rewards for doing things like monochrome runs, extra rules you can impose on a run like a restriction hack! And more stuff to use Prlz on like a vending machine with 5 spins on it per day for 200prlz. Something like what the Octo Expansion did.

Personally I adore Side Order. It could be I'm a dumb high schooler who doesn't know what a good game is but completing it was fun especially after I beat Overlorder for the first time after so... so many failures. Going through 8's palette with 6 chips wasn't even that hard and ironically was my fastest run at 22 minutes, I don't know how either- while the story is lacking making the broken weapon of my dreams is always fun. It might not be as lore heavy or even fun as Octo Expansion but I adore it nonetheless.

Personally my views on side order are a bit different because I don't have the online service I can't play multiplayer so the main story mode inside order on my only ways to play so to me there's so much to do with side order so I'm going to have a lot more enjoyable moments with side order then people who can just go in turf wars or go play some salmon run now do I wish they added I don't know what secret boss maybe you being able to transfer your pearls into level so for Us online players we can actually play table turf I would love a secret boss I would love a lot more like glitch floors where you can fight like harder versions of the main game and older bosses and more new ones a lot more for my very first Splatoon DLC

the main problem is the game’s difficulty. while you only get stronger with each hack and pallette you unlock, the game always stays the same and it becomes incredibly easy in a bad way. i wished there was a mechanic like in hades, where each run you have you implement something that makes it harder, even for just a bit.

I completed the octoshot run on my first try (and even that badge), it may be harder than inner agent 3 but only because it is longer. For me it wasn't as rewarding as beating inner agent 3

Usually I dont comment on videos like this, but I do think Side Order is a great gamemode and dlc for splatoon. Defiantly not as memorable as Octo Expansion. I have a few reasons for why octo expansion is more memorable: 1.Splatoon 2 itself was in my opinion the best game to start off the switch in 2017, and would always be more memorable to the players who didnt have a WiiU/didnt get to play splatoon1. 2. The DLC for Octo Expansion put a new game cosmetic feature in that players have been wanting SINCE the 1st game. 3. The levels weren't just difficult, they had very catchy names/objectives that add more life to it 4. The plot twist of Agent 3 getting hijacked was done neatly, and honestly, was probably the most unique final boss out of any game. 5. There are more rewards available. Yes- this sounds stupid, but, We got rewards for collecting the memcakes (New cosmetic each set), we got the Option to be an Octoling, we get a new gun, and we get a secret reward that doesn't JUST take skill. It takes patience, and dedication to having actually 100% the game. 6. Its cheaper. Idk about the price now, but when it was first released it was $30 (australian) while side order was, and still is $38 dollars. 7. Octo expansion really boosted my skills online, and in the actual Agent 4 campaign. Yes, Side order does this too, but with the various hacks, and weapon upgrades, it makes it easier to relax. 8. Octo expansion left an impact on the game (for me) that let me enjoy the og campaign, and online battles without feeling like something is missing. In Side Order, when you have the hacks, you get too used to the playstyle with them, and it just makes every other gamemode feel empty. I've completed side order 5 times with different weapons. I'd play turf war and it wouldn't feel the same. 9. I really think the idea of the octoshot challenge is neat and well done, AND is optional (Hack/Chip wise), but I feel like there should be an option to turn off the 'challenge' of it. 10. In the Dev logs, it is explained why the memverse was made and how it was being used. We had two octolings, one sanitised, one not. The memverse goal was to help octolings regain their memories. Acht and 8 never did get their memories back, nor was it used to impact the story (Correct me on that if im wrong) Overall, Side order was great and a very neat detail. this is just my opinion, no need to agree or disagree.

Beating this on the hardest run already lost its replayability for me. I know there's weapon skins I can play runs for but I only main a few weapons so it doesn't matter to me. To be honest the lore is interesting but the stories told aren't that good.

Acht mentions turning down a position on the front lines of the Octarian army, implying eligibility. Only female Octolings were stationed on the Octarian army front lines. Therefore we can conclude that Acht is female, and as such, referring to her with 'she' is correct. Also, to use a word is to speak or write it; not to have it spoken or written by someone else about you.

splatoon had an update recently for the past splatfest and more elevator dialogue was added to side order. that was it. no new content, no quality of life updates. nothing. it was literally three more lines of elevator dialogue. i hate to say i'm slightly disappointed with side order. i teared up at the credits, but i *always* tear up at the end of a video game. but it felt so meaningless because right after the credits i went back to doing the rest of the pallets. the credits would have been more impactful if they were after we completed ALL of the pallets, even agent 8's. it's challenging, but it kind of has a bark with no bite. it's barebones, it's kind of disappointing, and i really wish there were better rewards, another mode (like endless!!) and a secret boss. also, acht barely getting any development outside of marina's entries despite being one of marina's best friends really hurt me. you only see them once outside of side order and that's in tableturf, since they become a challenger, but WHO EVEN PLAYS TABLETURF?? i only play it when the servers are down or when i get temp banned for a disconnect... i don't hate side order but it definitely didn't meet my expectations and i was hoping for more. even if the dlc was delayed another month, hell, a few more months, i would be happy, but splatoon 3 stops getting updates later this year or early next year. if we get an announcement at the world championship like the reveal of octo expansion in the 2018 championship that would be great, but it's highly unlikely and nintendo doesn't really seem to care much about splatoon. i feel like 3 is becoming another animal crossing new horizons, it's not properly updated and when it is the updates are lackluster and the content feels too quick to complete. ironically, animal crossing and splatoon have the same people working on them, so it makes sense. also i adore pearlina, pearl and marina are a great couple and i'm glad they're practically confirmed to be partners even if not explicitly stated, but all they did was flirt in the elevator and it felt very... fan servicey.

For something that was advertised to be a "large-scale DLC", I was very disappointed with Side Order. Maybe I had too much expectations, or maybe it was a skill issue for me (it was-), but still, in my opinion: -The gameplay relies too much on RNG because I could get the best chip RNG and reach the last floor, and then immediately lose the run, and all my progress with it. To rub more salt into the wound, you can't use Prlz to recover your Octoshot runs, which makes it even more frustrating than it needs to be, especially knowing that you can't replicate the same near-optimal RNG -Compared to the previous campaigns and Octo Expansion, most of the stages in Side Order were either lazily reused 5 times to fit all the clear conditions, or they were too tedious and dreadful (*cough* *cough* Cruel_Sisyphean_Eight-Shaped.Floor). As far as boss stages go, I honestly don't care because you have to complete all the repetitive stages to reach them anyways. -This is PROBABLY a controversial take, but I think the soundtrack as a whole is mid. I'm not saying it's bad, but I find myself listening to the other Splatoon OST more than I do with Side Order. (And also I was growing more and more tired of listening to the same soundtrack over and over again, especially with how many Octoshot runs I've lost. From the top of my mind, I lost over 40 runs) -Another controversial take I have is that I really wish Smollusk didn't exist because the "threat" he posed completely undermines how intimidating Order was, and is therefore tame compared to the other villains, especially Commander Tartar and Mr Grizz. At least with them, the narrative strongly emphasised how an entire civilisation, if not, the entire world, was on the line if Agent 8 and Neo Agent 3 didn't defeat them respectively. The only credit I can give to Side Order is unlocking Inkopolis Square, using the Pearl Drone, and experimenting with silly palette builds, but that isn't enough to outweigh the criticisms I have to the DLC. I'm sorry to those who did enjoy Side Order (and I respect your opinion for it), but overall, I found it severely underwhelming.

I realized that the gameplay of side order would get repetitive for me in a very short time. I cleared the story mode once, and after that I couldn't bring myself to finish a second run at the tower because repeating the same tasks over and over with little variation over 30 floors took all the joy out of the mode. I can't say i enjoyed side order which is a letdown after waiting for so long for it's release date.

i plan on going for the octoshot run (mostly because i want the gun for actual pvp) but even i realize that its kinda just a waste of time. the golden hairpin, while arguably being goofy looking, was still a great show of status and a great memento. the badge you get for the octoshot run just aint it imo.

Hackless octo isn't harder than inner agent 3 by a long shot. Both test your skills to their limits, but inner agent 3 is a nigh unfair fight where you need to overcome the odds to best someone that, essentially, cheats. Hackless octoshot just requires you to know what's strong in SO and go for it. Find a vending machine, get lucky, grab a hammer and dodge the mindless fish. How is that harder?

another thing i noticed is that when you first unlock the octo shot, many people could only have 6 color chip slots and couldn't change it, i had to clear the whole tower with just 6 chips😅. Would just need a simple patch but still annoying

Side order was disappointing as hell, especially after 2 of the best story modes (octo expansion and alterna) the story was basic and LAME we didn’t need more lore on top of octo expansion, it’s been SIX YEARS and we know everything we need to know about the lore, the only thing side order added was marina and achts history. We needed something NEW. Plus the gameplay gets lame after a while, after enough plays u just realize special spam is the only way to win, and sure it’s fun the first 10 times but when the mode is made to be played over and over again it gets repetitive quickly. Also the bosses??? 3 actual bosses? 💀 they couldn’t reuse the bosses from alterna or something? Honestly pretty lazy, I hope they take a big break in between spaltoon 3 and 4 so they don’t repeat mistakes like this again

I agree with you, Vasko Games!👍🐙 Side Order almost nailed it, but there are plenty of flaws that Side Order is holding back. I feel like that Side Order should've have unique 40/50 floors and mission objectives instead of reused 30 floors and mission objectives. I feel like that Commander TarTar should've been returned as a nightmare-fuled blender machine in Side Order. I feel like that Parallel Canon boss fight should've been Agent 4's boss fight. I feel like that we should've unlock Agent 4 once you beat the main game of Side Order. I feel like we should've got more character development for Pearl, Marina, and DedF1sh (aka, Acht). I feel like we should've got a secret boss fight in Side Order. I feel like that Side Order should've taken place in some kind of dark/bleak, Desolate dimension instead of Side Order taken place in some kind of dystopian, simulation. I feel like the Jeletons in Side Order should've been fossil-like Jeletons instead of toy-like Jeletons. And I feel like we should've got more rows/varieties for the color chips. These are my complaints about Side Order. Also Vasko Games, can you do a try not to laugh/cringe challenge of Splatoon content, please?

I completly disagree with almost everything in this video, my reasoning is too long so i wont write it bc no one would read it and i wont bother wasting my time but, since if i dont show my reasoning everyone would call me a hater and i dont want that so, heres almos everything that i remember 1The thing with the hacks like, the turn them all off and on its like :| i mean, i guess it could be fine but i dont see a big enough reason of why its a bad thing to not have it. 2 pearls do nothing after you've bought everything: i mean, yeah, they do nothing but so are the rewards of all the rouglite games when you buy everything its not a splatoon flaw its just a design that all rouglites have. 3 its too short: (i know its not a argument in this video but i know its a point of discussion) ppl are saying mostly in the coments that the game is too short or that it doesn't have too many bosses or enemies but the thing is that its just a dlc, its not a fully fleshed out game, so it makes sense that its not as deep ase some other rouglites/rougelike games and thats fine. 4 in salmon run are too many rewards for one to buy but in side order you get maxed out pretty fast and there's no reason to do the more challenging things like a no hacks run with eights palette: i love how he says that in salmon run you need to grind the game too much just to get everything but then says that there should be a better reward to doing eights palette with no hacks, like come on, i grinded side order just to get the badge but i didnt have fun bc its wasnt a self imposed challenge, it was a genuinely hard thing that didnt need a reward bc its supossed to be a self imposed skill test, not a thing that you grind to get everything (thats why eights palette doesnt give keys, just lore). 5 the lore its skippeable and bare bones: speaking of lore this is the next point, while i do think its a bit bare bones, its pretty difficult to have interesting lore while having replyability(i dont know if its spelled like that srry), and its skippeable so people that dont care about the lore can just, not see it wich i think its really cool, not everyone wants to knok everything, its like hades, the only lore that its not optional its just go and do runs, its better to have the lore distributed and be accessible to everyone but not forced i think its a pretty good design philosophy. I love Side Order so much, but it feels like the developers were scared to make it too difficult. I get why, Splatoon is a franchise meant to accommodate both the hardcore and the casual, but people love getting rewards, even just cosmetic ones, for pushing through a challenge. Other than that, the other biggest mistake of Side Order was how it was advertised. I’ve seen SO MANY people disappointed, because their expectations were built up too much. Along with that, the price is a bit too high for what the dlc gave us (especially alongside the price of Splatoon 3). Overall though, love the dlc so much and since I love doing roguelike and challenge runs. I’ll be in the minority that’s still playing it for a long time lol 🤍
