Thanks Japhet! Learned a lot! I think the ranked choice system makes a lot of sense. Hope they consider it.

US voting system is not how you describe. You have ignored the electoral college, a system that helps to prevent urban dwellers from completely dominating all elections. This electoral college, along with the Senatorial half of the legislature, helps to prevent a mob rule system. The Federal government of the US is not a pure democracy, but rather it is a republic. Otherwise, the states of New York, and California, two of the most poorly run and corrupt states, would determine the winners in most federal elections and dominate the legislature as well. If you want to improve elections in The Philippines, I would suggest tighter controls of who is qualified to vote in the first place, possibly restricting women, indigents and illiterates from the process. All of that People Power hassle, just to install first the corrupt Aquino faction (from what I can discern, merely another side of the same coin) and now another Marcos.

What you ignore is that a constitutional republic is a form of democracy

@@RandomVidsforthought Did not ignore it, just pointed out that the US does not employ a pure form of democracy. It is not perfect, but to be fair, it has suffered from the corruption of the original system by allowing universal suffrage with very loose control over the voting rolls and processes.
