I have enjoyed working with Manfrotto Tripods and Monopods. However, I have found an alternative workflow instead of using their quick release plates anymore. Music by: soundcloud.com/panthurr

Can you please link where I can find that arca swiss DLV-50 mount and also the plates you show off around the 2:20 mark? I can't find that exact one on Amazon. I have the 502 head and the plate is just annoying to allow for a quick release on the camera. Yeah I can slide it off fast, but then I'm fiddling with it for several minutes to get the camera off just so i can change the dang battery. ANNOYING. I bought Manfrotto's 323 quick release but it conflicts with the head so I cannot slide the plate back on with it installed. :(

Good shit, man! Love the real world usage. A link to the items in the video would be nice.

Just watched your last 3 videos, good stuff! Love that your reviews are based on real world usage. The little nitty gritty stuffs that many others don't talk about. And I like that so far I'm on the same page as you, preferring glidecam, arca swiss, & think that sliders are overrated lol.

The issue I have is the barrel of my lens rubbing against the Manfrotto 502 plate, this should solve the problem.

Ah! I have had that issue too with longer lenses! good point :)

Great video! Can you share the link? Thanks!

Hey Mark! :) Thanks. I would post some links, but they're always changing. B&H sold them in the past, then took them down. eBay is great place to browse-- Type in Arca Swiss Quick Release. Some are twist to tighten some have the clamp like mine, you can find the type you like... I wish I could help more, I just don't want to share a link that will be dead in a couple days. If you want a highend-version the Kessler Crane Quick release set up is great, a lot of pros use this-- Hope this helps!

@@HenryOrtlip Can you share a current link anyway? Because Im having trouble knowing exactly which one you have even when i search it and I don't want to get the wrong one. thanks!

@@brockb4452 I had the same problem and I solved it in the same way. With the exact same clamps that Henry shows in this video! I bought mine on eBay UK from seller "cguk". They're called "FotoPanda 50mm Lever Quick Release Clamp Adapter".

It only has one screwhole , im worried that it will wiggle under a heavier setup like mine.

Working with glide cams and tripods myself, I can tell you that doing all those switches is a PAIN. Next on my list is getting quick-release for the camera strap, which is also a complete PAIN to change, for whenever you need to take say the GH5 out for a regular photography excursion.

I bought one of those by accident I'll have to drag it out I've never used it. Do they come with the top plate - I need to do a bit of research - I find release plates all confusing not sure why. They never seem to sell them with the plate that goes on to your camera etc - everytime I ordered one it never seemed to fit

There are many out there. Sometimes it's only the adapter and sometimes there is one arca swiss plate in the package but normally that should be written in the delivery content. If you need a plate, you can use any arca swiss plate but I would recommend you to take one from the same "brand" as your adapter is because sometimes there are slight differences between plates. Another tipp: If you use different cameras, make sure that you have all plates are exactly the same model. Why? Because if you have on one camera an arca swiss plate from manufacturer A and on another camera a plate from manufacturer B, then you will run into a little problem: The adapters will tighten down with a lever and if your plates are slightly different, then you have to adjust every time and this will take extra time when attaching your camera.

Hey Just saw this video great info. The price though of the Arca Swiss Flip lock is nowhere near what you say, they start at $149.00 or am I missing something. The release plate is minimal. Help me find the fliplock that's not so expensive. Thanks, Robert

+Henry Ortlip ...What brand are those QR Plates?
@HenryOrtlip7 жыл бұрын
Joe, as long as they are Arca Swiss compatible it doesn't really matter. But which ever brand you order from I would get quite a few that way they are all the same size... down to the millimeter. So everything fits and tightens flush in your workflow. Hope this makes sense.
@vidcreations6 жыл бұрын
I agree with you 100%, but your title is very misleading. You are talking about the video head. I know it is a generic term, but tripods and monopods are the legs. I thought you had information that there was a problem with the tripods.

That's exactly my problem! What is the name of that arca plate? Does it just screw right on to the Manfrotto right out of the box?
@HenryOrtlip7 жыл бұрын
Hey John, There are many different plates you can get that are arca swiss compatible. I got mine on eBay for a good price. I would search arca swiss and some options will come up-- they screw right on to the manfrotto plate.
@cassiusjb7 жыл бұрын
I'm looking now. There's not that much variety here in France.
@MUENTERMEDIA7 жыл бұрын
You just have to screw the adapter. It uses the same screw as you would use to mount the manfrotto plate onto your camera but instead of doing this, you mount the adapter on the manfrotto plate.
@cassiusjb7 жыл бұрын
MUENTERMEDIA yes but it seems most of the plates have that large tightening knob. It needs to be flat.
@MUENTERMEDIA7 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. There are versions with a little support so you can tighten it by hand and some are without extra support so you have to use a coin or screwdriver to tighten it but both versions are "flat" - if not, they wouldn't go anywhere. So don't know what you exactly mean...

I'm so disappointed in my Manfrotto. It cannot support the heavy, long glass. It comes loose and the plate creeps.
@MUENTERMEDIA7 жыл бұрын
Haha, we had the same problems and same solution for it. At some point I have made the decision that our entire equipment gets this adapters. Without them its insane: Camera from tripod to monopod, from there to a slider and back and so on...

agreed.

I converted to this Manfrotto style type of QR plates - images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81HbOdghUTL._SL1500_.jpg I got a bunch of them online and they work like a charm. They snap into place with a confidence. And those bigger plates you are talking about - certainly they are from the earlier days of big / huge cameras that you cary on your shoulder whether you are a TV news shooter os doc maker. Now with our tiny dslr / mirrorless cameras there is no need for big quick release plates. Thank you for the video, Henry!
@saadma996 жыл бұрын
Great, i was sick of flimsy quick releases and each company has it's own standards. specially when switching different lens sizes. i think I'll convert to Arca Swiss and buy some plates. thanks again Henry for the video.
