I feel like another thing that would make the jakks line better is releasing the characters in more box packs. For example since Omega is very hard to find and Rouge will probably be as well, how about relasing a Team Dark 3 pack like they did with Mecha and classic Eggman. Not only does it make the purchase feel more grand but also easer to get the characters that are harder to find. Plus characters that might not sell as well could be released in these packs like put Cream and Big in a team rose pack or Ray in a Mighty, Ray and classic Sonic pack.

How about releasing more Sonic characters besides the core cast like Sonic Boom’s Lyric, 06’s Mephiles or Satan’s Ixis Naugus? It gets boring seeing the same put out over and over with very few surprises in the mixes that lines like Transformers would normally do in their collector-orientated lines besides doing the same legendary seven characters several times.

I mean, Transformers didn’t do too many toys of comic created characters until the early 2010’s where Hasbro/Takara began really dipping their toes in that with Generations Drift and been making more since.

Also so true about the kids and toys things, Ive seen TMNT and transformers fans even say this where most buyers are the nostalgic adults who collect toys. So far ive seen tmnt somewhat do the solution you mentioned where there's a toy line for adult collectors that are focused on rereleasing old 80s characters, i think its by super7

The Ultimates are high quality versions of the toys I grew up with, while Neca goes for screen accuracy. And having both options just makes it awesome to be a TMNT collector. Hopefully Sonic gets that treatment.

Jazwares released some pretty cool figures when they had the IP. It helps that when they were involved in the franchise they could have unique character redesigns as game tie-ins like the free riders toys, the black knight toys and they even released a pack with shadow and doom's eye. I remember wanting sonic toys all the time when I was younger and ended up missing out on a lot of the toys they made. I do foundly remember getting their toys and plushies around the unleashed and 20th anniversary eras. The werehog figure was suprisingly heavy, and covered in pointy plastics. It felt like a weapon.

You’re not the only one who missed out on them. I used to have a tails free riders figure but I think I broke the leg by accident. I still look to this day for Jazwares sonic figures and I can’t find them anywhere. They’re too expensive. Was it because they were popular? There’s no way they’re rare, a lot were produced from 2009-2014. It’s just like GameCube games. Companies stopped producing, demand got higher, then the next thing you know it’s over $100 for one figure/game. This really sucks 😔

You have hit the nail on the head dude! This is why we mainly collect the obscure or rare 90s/early 2000s stuff. There's nothing wrong with the current products, but they are lacking in style and scope and don't really feel like collectors pieces. I'm glad you've opened the door for this dialogue. It's definitely something we've wanted to discuss but feared how people would react!

If there ever was a more collector focused line of Sonic action figures, I hope they're ones that are more along the lines of 1/12 scale like what the 4 inch Jakks line has. As cool as the Classic and Modern collectors figures are, they're so big that they don't mesh well with any other character on my figure self, and the 2.5 inch line is just too tiny for my preferred scale of action figures. Jazwares were nice and some phenominal articulation, but they always felt way too tiny. Idk, I just really want a line of Sonic figures that I can pose next to my other action figures like Megaman X, Spidey and others without them feeling like they're the wrong size compared to everyone else. I can't be the only one that's super picky about their action figure scale like this, right?

It’s funny you mentioning the rare Rouge the Bat figure from Sonic X, awhile ago while browsing Ebay I spotted an original Sonic X Rouge plushie that was around $300+ It’s pretty fascinating looking at all the rare Sonic merch there is and the ridiculous prices attached to it. Also on subject while I’m not big on collecting toys or figures anymore I hope the toy-line gets a lot more diversity with the characters, since that’s one of the biggest appeals to the Sonic series imo.

It's been a long time since I've come across a KZbin video so niche and yet so particularly catered to my interests. As a child it was hard to get a hold of many Sonic toys, I'm pretty sure I've got the 5 inch Werehog and Sonic w/ Caliburn from their respective game pre-orders but they were the only 5 inch figures from Jazwares I ever saw. It wasn't until much later that I decided to spend the money to pay scalper prices for the Blaze the Cat comic two-pack and the Chaotix triple set. Super stoked about the upcoming Rouge figure, I could never track down the one from the Sonic X line so it's kinda exciting for a toy collector and Sonic fan to finally get a figure of Rouge the Bat.

My biggest problem with Jakks is the quality control. I’ve gotten two classic Sonics with arms that immediately broke off. Same thing happened when I got 2 waluigi figures, both had left feet that were about to break, with the first one breaking.

With the cult following it's acquired over the years, you'd think they'd realize that adults are actually a huge part of their fanbase and have more disposable income than literal children. I've had this on my concience for a while now, and considering the topic, I feel this is where I should confess my sins. My only Sonic figure (😔) is a tiny little Chao, and its one of the kinda figures you'll find a lot on the bottom rack at the checkout lanes of Walmart. I found them underneath the display, ripped out of their packaging. Knowing it would be thrown away if it were found by an employee, I hid it away in my pocket and left with him. When I was a kid I had the bendy figures and remember the metal in the figures breaking through the rubber and stabbing my thumbs when I tried to play with them. The other Sonic toys I had where these really cool big ones that talked. I had one of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles but I remember the tails in Tails where really cheap and broke off.

Great vid! I mainly collect Marvel Legends figures that both combines great looking figures, deep articulation, huge cast of characters and accessories so for me personally Jakks is doing fine with their line but I want some Sonic figures that can have the same effort and care as they have. The main example I want Jakks or any other company with the Sonic toy rights is to emulate what Bandai did with the SH figuarts Pac-Man figure.

As someone who is a Sonic fan first and a toy enthusiast second, my only major problem with the Jakks line is how *stupidly hard they are to find.* Nearly every time I go to Target or Walmart, they're totally out of stock! Doesn't help that they get scalped pretty hard on Ebay and such. I'm sure this is due to factors not entirely within their control (we live in strange times after all) but it's still very irritating.

As much as I love the Jakks' figures and have collected as many as I can come across (having been quite lucky at regular stores finding some of the more hard to track down figures), my problem with them isn't that they're perfect. My problem is I cannot bend their elbows. For me, this restricts certain poses that I would like to be able to do with these characters. As strange as some of the joints can look for Sonic characters, I do believe that they add something to the figures, but that could be that I prefer being able to give them different poses moreso than the average person.

I am a rookie Sonic Figure collector. I Collected Tomy Sonic figures, I currently have a Classic Sonic and Modern Knuckles that are not on the best condition. My Tomy Classic sonic has a broken nose, my modern knuckles has a damaged arm. I ALSO have all 4 inch Jakks classic figures (Mighty, Sonic, Eggman, and Mecha Sonic). For Christmas I got the sonic 30th anniversary edition set that cames with classic Sonic, Tails (modern), with a spike trap, 2 checkpoints, a yellow spring and a shield item box 6:05 *That one from Jakks* I loved it cuz that is my first official sonic set and thing I got (I have the box in perfect conditions tho), but my complaint is... Why they made Tails mouth red? Lol it could be at least a dark grey but... *Red!?* He looks like he has lipstick on LOL I still hope to get more sonic stuff including the Lego Ideas Sonic set from this year 2022 Anyways good video, and nice explanation of everything! While not as expeessive and fun compared to resaurus, i always felt like the jazzwares figures were the best overall set. the massive variety combined with the overall nice design and pretty decent articulation (albeit at the cost of bigger joints) just makes them perfect imo. the jakks ones just look really awful imo, with the exception of some of the classic ones.

The Sonic the Hedgehog merchandise I dream of is a series of character figures built to scale one eighth of their canonically established heights, with sculpts styled after Yuji Uekawa's artwork, plenty of articulation, some face customization and accessories for each, and alternate bodies based on the different outfits that certain characters wear.

I used to have all of the jazwares 3 inchers (along with a metric fuck ton of other memorabilia, mostly comics) and I even got a custom figure made of an old oc I had by trading an extra classic super sonic I had. I ended up giving it all away to goodwill the summer before I went to high school bc I was so embarrassed by my love of sonic. Seeing now how rare and expensive all of my old toys are makes me so upset, they were some of my favorite things I owned

Your line about kids is true. My brother cares more about Fortnite, while I, a 16-year-old am hoarding Sonic toys. The collector figures idea is great, too, because the same thing worked for Star Wars.

One thing that I find help with accidentally buying duplicates is to keep a list of everything that you got, it is super helpful with the only drawback being that you have to update it everytime you get something new.
