Makes sense, if you behave according to what others like you won't like yourself.

fitting in or conforming to stereotypes has never brought anyone any satisfaction. the only reason people do it is by fear of social isolation/exclusion. and i believe there lies nothing but regret on the path of fear. therefore, to whatever extent one decides to mask what they truly want to be/do with what their environment pressures them to be/do will be the same extent to which their life will feel miserable

that's mostly how i view it as well. but if an aspect of someone's self is associated with a stereotype, i don't believe this would be categorized as "conforming to stereotypes." after all, stereotypes shouldn't dictate what you can or can not be. i mention it briefly in the video, but i think the only time conformity brings long-term benefit is when it is intentionally used as a tool to avoid being in harm's way. i've also been thinking recently that some people just don't care or value having a deeper understanding of themselves, so they wouldn't mind conforming/ they don't see it as conforming. i still have a hard time understanding that way of thought though.
