A lot of people are saying “she just grew up,” in my opinion, it has nothing to do with that. Her “change” happened damn near over night. I can understand going through a phase but the whole “rock/skater girl” seemed to be a BIG part of her personality, you don’t drop that over night. Especially when you do an entire 180 and come out looking like Trisha Paytas.

@@zuzukram Again, it didn’t seem like a phase. Look at someone like Aaliyah, she came into the game during her tomboy phase and when she matured it seemed like a natural progression. @@soup8160 you call it hate bandwagon we call it holding people accountable. You can think that it's not that big of a deal, but Shane had huge platforms with young and easy to impress fans. Fans that were attentive to his every word, while he tried to make every video as sensationalized as he could. Telling people he believed certain theories along with not even trying to be logical or a tiny bit critical of them (because it would make the video less spooky) did perpetuate many narratives and spread their notoriety. A huge platform comes with responsibility.

Another thing I saw someone point out is if she were dead, her label wouldn't let her make it obvious by letting her change so drastically, especially after UMS. Also labels make way more money after an artist has passed than when they're alive so all around the theory is quite stupid and had so many holes and inconsistencies. There are a lot of artists who've changed yet they get praised for it but when it's Avril, it possibly can't be her

I think that her only fault was to change her appereance so drastically after UMS, people were accostumed around a certain idea of her and to see her become suddenly this blonde girl with a pink hair extension was too much to digest back in the day. Taylor Swift changed so many times music style and appereance, but she did it in a more subtle way, in an album she would've add a song that would fit the genre of the next one (like in RED with those more poppy sound) so when 1989 come out people were more accepting and open towards that, also her lyricism didn't got worse it was just different while with Avril theres still a lot of lacking regarding that area and her best album in terms of that is still Let Go, with a few exception every now and then! After all those years if fans that grew up with you relate more to an album that came out in 2002 written by a teenager there is a problem. Of course the cloned thing is stupid and unfair

That's because at the time she worked with other people and she was not writing much, mostly changing some lyrics or adding to them. But since goodbye lullaby she started to write songs herself more often. And in the TBDT she just worked with Dr. Luke and everyone knows now that he's a bad person and bad producer and cheesy songwriter. You can easily find this information from the people who worked with her at the time. Also it's just logical because since GL her lyrics became more personal and more about herself and her life.

avril lavigne used to be my absolute fave singer during my middle school "rebellion" phase, i used to relate to her lyrics a lot and it always bugged me SO much whenever i'd bring her up in a convo both irl and on the internet and the first thing i'd get asked about was this silly theory... I still follow her a bit nowadays and i'm glad she never really seemed that bothered about the theory, but still to me as a fan it was so frustrating hearing people saying that she was dead cause she meant so much to me back then and it made me really sad lol

I always say this: she didn't change that fast! If you notice her first album she started off being that angsty tomboy wearing baggy pants, second album she started incorporating hints of skirts and a little pink (see He Wasn't) but still tomboyish and third, she embraced that pink and became now "girly".

Another thing worth mentioning is she recently re-released and recorded her debut studio album (which includes several unreleased tracks). Including her rendition of “Breakaway” which was latter passed to Kelly Clarkson. Although the release was to coincide with the 20 year anniversary. I can’t help but believe this was used to display her career evolution and go back to her roots. In a way to seemingly bite back at this overran conspiracy.

Ok, so, in many kinds of conspiracy theories like this one (Paul Mccartney, for example), people tend to find "hidden messages" in the lyrics. In fact, there is no hidden message, people just get random parts of the song, take them out of the context of the full lyrics and frame them into their own theories. If you get the remaining lyrics of Avril Lavigne's song, "Together", they say: When I'm alone I feel so much better And when I'm around you I don't feel Together It doesn't feel right at all Together Together we've built a wall Together Holding hands we'll fall Hands we'll fall This has gone on so long I realize that I need Something good to rely on Something for me The lyrics obviously talk about someone who just fell detached from her significant other and is trying to focus more on herself. The lie she is living is a relationship that just does not exist anymore because they built "walls". That's all. And you can use the same logic to debunk absolutely ALL collected evidence on Beatles lyrics about Paul McCartney's supposed death. You can't just isolate random parts of a song and say they mean something on their own. They are part of a larger context.

I ‘get’ why that conspiracy would come about. It’s when she was at her absolute peak. It’s an iconic era and for her to suddenly not be relevant and not have the same exact persona, it really is something sudden. Personally I think if they said she died after 2007 when I really first remember hearing about her then I would think it would be more popular as I believe it was her last major album release.

Ugh, people are so gullible and believe everything they read on the internet. It's obvious that Avril is a vampire. That's why she's so pale, doesn't seem to age, avoids sunlight and has songs named Bite Me and Here's to Never Growing up. 🤪 All jokes aside, after losing Chester Bennington, one of my all-time favorite musicians, to suicide, this theory irks me (Avril is also one of my favorite singers).

If this clone theory is true, why wouldn't they do this with other very famous artists who have died young, like Kurt Cobain, Selena, Amy Winehouse, etc.? Well duh! It's because they don't have to. People still listen to, buy, and stream their music. In fact, them dying brings a lot of attention and encourages people to look these people up, who they initially might've not listened to before. Plus, they don't have to do the work of helping them make and release new music. If Avril actually did die, the label would make TONS of money off of her, and still would even today. It wouldn't be a smart business rule to have to pay someone else to pretend to be Avril and then also have her risk their image by allowing her to give off obvious clues (like writing Melissa on her hand or writing certain lyrics that could give it away). It just makes no sense to me. Even if they did clone her, they'd have to spend more money, spend more time working to train the clone to act exactly like Avril, do the work of making new albums, and be very careful to make sure no clues of their plan slips out. Why bother?

The funny thing about it all is that this a rumor that can be traced back to its origin: the guy who created it decided to do so to prove that people on the internet believe in pretty much anything. I saw the original website with his "research", how it was based on "facts", and the whole thing was so well put together (although the design of it all was clearly basic af, something like a 00's teen would do), that it looked like something the person truly believed. It was a niche thing among Brazilian teens and it's crazy how far it has come. He has come clean about it many times to express the irony of it all.

This theory was started in a Brazilian forum and the guy later made a blogspot, which was still up the last time I checked. The guy himself said the theory was false and he just made it up to see if it would spread. He must’ve based it on Paul McCartney’s theory (also that he died and the others hid clues on St Pepper’s). It used to be pretty niche to the Brazilian fandom, there’s even a very only MTV Brazil interview where they ask her about it and she hadn’t heard it by then.

I was never a believer of the theory but I agree that her music started to take a turn at some point. After finding out she was under RCA, it makes more sense. She didn't have as much creative control which can really be stifling for an artist who is all about songwriting and the image their music portrays. Now that I'm an adult, with a much more varied music taste, I've made peace with it because artists have the right to change. I still regard her earlier work as my favorite and will still have that nostalgia

She never changed in my opinion, she went through some minor differencies between eras but that was it, her lyricism are getting worse and you can see that in Love Sux, she could've write those boy bashing songs in a more mature way instead she seems like a caricature of her old self (and her debut album wasn't that shallow) so no, she wasn't cloned or replaced she simply become less passionate about her work in my opinion and you can see that in live performances where she always seems bored or forced (and that was even prior to her gettin lyme disease) her first three record would always be her best work, in term of lyricism and everything and i doubt that she could ever return to that success if she doesn't consider some major changes to her music style and lyricism. Lets not forget this is just my opinion.
