Man I never realized how immature Melanie was. She was unprofessional, a bad friend, sneaky... just so many flaws I never noticed when i was younger watching the show. Then realized she was like 23/24 years old and it made so much more sense. Lol being a middle schooler, I thought people in their early 20’s were functioning at a much higher level of maturity. We also didn’t know anything about relationships back then. But there is no way in helllll I would ever advice my friend to take back a man who cheated on her, lied abt it, brought her around the side piece, lied some more, and then got someone pregnant while they were broke up and nowhere near over each other lol.

Malik does have a little growth in the later seasons. He ends up going to therapy and realizes he and Tasha have a codependent relationships. I didn't really like the later seasons. It felt desperate. I still watched and liked it somewhat, but they didn't compare to the original 3 seasons. When it comes to Melanie and Derwin. Derwin always seemed a little too stupid to me. One thing I hated about Melanie was she would always say 'I turned down Johns Hopkins for you'. That was so annoying, but it helped me learn that when you make a sacrifice for someone you don't throw it in their face if they disappoint you. You chose to make te sacrifice. If you regret it that's your fault.

Here's the tea that dropped in Season 5 though. Melanie got pregnant by Trey Wiggs in season 2 and had an abortion to ensure that she and Derwin could potentially reconcile. So she felt betrayed internally that he didn't want to abandon the child with Janay. Yeah Melanie was wrong. I'm just adding context to everything.

I been re-watched The Game cuz it's been on Hulu for a while now. Derwin and Melanie WERE my couple goals. I yearned for a connection and chemistry like this! I stopped wanted a relationship like this as I got older and realized it was toxic in some areas. Tasha Mizz-ACT ! Definitely a "Strong Black Woman" I love the vulnerable moments where we got to see her be "human". She just wanted love and success like everyone else. Malik was a douchebag from day one to the end. I wanted him to change his life around but hey.. also Shoutout to TT! Best assistant/ best friend ever!!!!! So funny. Jason was a cheap asshole.. his anti-blackness was problematic but very real to a lot of black men like him in the sports world. Also side note I still HATE JANAY and Dionne TRIED it!!! Kelly was a pushover but I'm glad she got a backbone in the end. When the show went to BET it went downhill I stilled watched when it went to BET but it wasn't the same the comedy was not on point it tried too hard to be a drama. I stopped watching when they added Lauren London sorry but she can't act and the characters were not interesting anymore. All in all I will always have a special connection to the show and the characters. #Game FAN 4 life

She knew Derwin didn't like her like that before the baby and she used that baby. However my irritation was with Derwin he was acting like Janae was a problem but she was a problem he created and while thinking Melanie should just understand. He knew Melanie was his end game but he was still flirting with Janae. So he's flirting with baby mom and telling Melanie he loves her but not acting like it. Melanie just simply wasn't woman enough to handle the situation.

i hated kelly and jason together, kelly was the absolute worst, she really only like jason because he was a “good black man with money” and he was a little anti-black but besides that their relationship by itself was toxic and literally all the time their scenes were about sex not really about love, kelly hated that he moved on to chardonnay who was the complete opposite of her and ruined their relationship out of spite not because jason was her real love. Jason was bad like really bad but i kind of liked his character he showed a lot of growth up until he got back with kelly that erased his whole character development. i wish he stayed with chardonnay. i loved melanie and tasha , tasha should’ve ended up with rick though. malik’s character suffered the whole show. TT was the goat though and was my favorite.

Ok, I liked the show at the time but it wasn’t like I loved it. I’m 32 so was a bit older & recognized how toxic they were for the most part even then. How you now see it differently is how I felt watching Moesha back 😩😭 Anyway, I hated the show once they messed up Derwin & Melanie’s relationship. I’m a hopeless romantic so I need that to balance out the drama on a show. Once they went downhill, it was too much for me. I HATED how random it fell apart for them & how HORRIBLE her character became. I love that she represented the “good girl” initially so it pissed me off when they had her sleeping with everyone, cutting her hair, & acting irrationally. A cringe moment for me was when she was singing “I’m dancin & emphasizin” 😖😂 The “wild” bad girl image just seemed so forced on her character that it IRKED me! I hated that she didn’t stand up for herself & leave him. I hate that they even wrote in him cheating on her in the first place. Like why couldn’t he be the exception? 😩 Janae’s whole existence was random and pointless in my option. She definitely was the victim but I just felt like the pregnancy things was way too much. Side note: Pooch Hall came to a club I was in years ago & sorry to disappoint but he is not cute at all in person lol. Maybe he was having a bad night lol. 😕🤷🏽‍♀️ And I 💯 percent agree with you about being the friend to people in those relationships...I HATE IT! Like stop asking for my advise! The ending of Season 3 was so emotional because of Derwin's monologue. It was beautiful. Rewatching all of these years later I had similar thoughts, the wardrobes were horrible, all of the relationships were toxic, and I still love the first 3 seasons! I was excited for season 4 and started watching it, but I don't remember watching every episode and I definitely stopped watching after Jay Ellis and Lauren London replaced Tia and I forgot the actor who played Derwin's real name.

It was hard for me to watch beyond Season 3 at first too but I didn’t have anything else to watch at the time so I went over to Hulu to watch it and surprisingly it wasn’t all that bad, it wasn’t the same as the first 3 seasons but there were interesting parts I liked the final episode of Season 9 when Jason was basically reminiscing and then they showed Melanie and Derwin in NYC, they eventually went back to San Diego to share the news that Melanie was having a babies...it wasn’t bad at all

Melanie was my least favorite character. She was selfish and self centered the entire time. Couldn't stand her 🙄 She acted like the world owed her something because she was in 'Medical school' and put herself and her own morals on a pedestal, despite her morals not being any better than everybody else. Then when I watched the BET version I was so disappointed 😞 they changed all of the characters and had horrible storylines And same to the different perspectives. I believe it was easy to “forgive” or “dismiss” their horrible behavior because of the entertainment. It’s wild how we can be pulled in to these story lines like they are goals!!!!

Tasha and pookie had a baby girl name Kai and got married and live in a nice house together. Melanie and derwin had twins and moved to Washington D.C but came back to Seattle (i think that’s where they live) to see family and friends. Malik won championship. Jason and Kelly got back together and he acted WAY better towards her, she missed him when she came back on the show (the girl who played Kelly had cancer but she beat it and came back) she saw how he changed towards Chardonnay and now he a Better husband that was a success for Kelly and they daughter graduated and loved them ( when Jason did marry Chardonnay he started LOVING black women he kept trying to go on dates and be black talking to movies screens till he found the right BLACK woman he wanted, but he got the head coaching job. Keira and blue (worst couple on the show if you ask me.) they broke up but Keira started dating Micheal B. Jordan and got a more successful acting career, blue signed with irv smith (he was funny to me.) and that was the end. Edit- I watched all of it.

I respect your perspective on show I wasn't the biggest The Game fan. Eventhough some of the situations can happen in real life I just felt like most of their storylines were not realistic even for the NFL.

I think you have to watch the latter seasons to really get the full character development. For instance, Jason later was paired with Chardonnay (Brandy lol). Tasha got pregnant. Now, I forget if Malik went through anything, lol.

GIRL yeesss ..my thoughts on the characters have changed sooo much ! first of all.. we hated janae so much...but she really did NOTHING wrong .We just was invested in their love..we couldn't see straight! I look back now and think Jason was on to something with his penny pinching lol cause Tasha and her I'm rich shit was soooo annoying . Her and her son mismanaged money like crazy ! How tf you have your house and cars taking away 40 million dollar kid??? Jason was the worst..but so funny.Kelly character was my least fav as well. Tasha had some good men...it was painful to watch her run them away. Brit grew up to be a prefect combination of her parents. I think season 4 and 5 was cool..it was after lauren london and blue came in that the show was trash. The game is my top 5 fav sitcom along with girlfriend's both shows are so relatable in there own way.

Darwin and Melody was the reason why I like the show when they got kicked off the show I stopped watching it they was the main characters plus the show was a spinoff on girlfriend and it's supposed to be about Melody and her friends and her relationship with Darwin

I never saw the later seasons back then bcuz we didn’t have cable; I just got to see them a few years ago when Bounce started airing the show. All I can say is the entire “tone/vibe” changed in those later seasons...it became way more dramatic (like The Young & the Game-less) and it lost a lot of its original comedic content! I did like Chardonnay (she actually got me to start liking Jason lol); I was very upset with how they ended their situation smh. Blue was ok but Keira never did anything for me; Melanie and Derwin’s presences were missed.

i think the time jumped in season 4 stupid, and i hate how they did jenna character and they even had the nerve to continue the show without Derwen and melony witch they should have canceld the show then and there and chardonnay's character felt flat and nobody cares sbout jason without Kelly they focused all of season 6 on tasha and rick only four them to break up season 7 ep 1 and nobody really cared kelly was gone in season 5 like tasha even gave jason relationship advice

I actually have to disagree with Tasha being at fault for Jason and Kelly ultimately splitting. When Tasha introduced Camille to Jason, yeah she may have done it out of spite, but she wasn't lying when she confirmed that Kelly and Jason were getting divorced, because that's really what was happening at the time. Kelly was already seeing Roman, and even before that she started clubbing and seeing other men. When Jason tried to get back with her she always rejected him; she even lead him on making him think they were getting back together after they slept together that one night, and when she told him they weren't it really hurt him, so she basically just used him for sex. But whenever Jason started seeing other women it was a problem for Kelly. She was very controlling and wanted to be chased and wanted, it was like she didn't want Jason but also didn't want anyone else to have him either. She really pushed him into other women's arms, not Tasha. Everything else I agree with 💯

Tasha helped Kelly realize that she was a pushover and help her get a voice. Kelly’s life revolved around Jason and catering to him and she didn’t have anything for her and that’s why she clutched on to the Sunbeams.
