sue i love your passion for this unrivalled breed...however no matter what you say or do some people will always believe staffords are vicious......my wife and i have had staffords all our lives as did our parents and grandparents before us.....and collectively we have never had a bad one.....ive had hell on with the local paper and "do-gooders" over the years regarding the breed...ive worked for stafford rescue for 20 years.....there,s not much me and my wife dont know about the breed......we,ve currently got an absolutely gorgeous mahogany brindle 6 month old stafford bitch who just adore,s everyone..yet even today when we visited a local town we got some "funny" looks off people.....i had to bite the bullet as i would be bollocking people every 100yds.......the way i look at things is this....there,s no cure for ignorance your born ignorant and stay ignorant all your life.....so to all you assumer,s out there....GET A LIFE GET A STAFFORD.....happy new year to all dog lovers!!!!

As a responsible Staffy owner myself, i totally agree with your comments. whenever i read a bad staffy story in the papers my mind is always on the owner.

I think that dog ownership should entail a proper registration process and a license, proving that you know how to look after the animal and are a suitable, responsible owner. Any violent crimes and you lose your license for 10 years. The youths in your area sound like they need compulsory military service.

Hope it doesn,t get like this in Australia,the problem is the scumbags that have these dogs,why isn,t the law policing these wankers. This magnificent breeds reputation is totally unjustified,in Australia they are the second most popular breed of dog ,the most popular being the golden retriever,as I said before I hope it does not get like this over here.

Staffers who are treated with love and friendship will always be great pets and even if they are not, with care and love they will change. Best dogs in the world.

I have a staffy dog and where i walk people literally then get their dogs on a super short lead and start panicking themselves and their dog. I am a believer in that it would be a bloody good starting point to have mandatory licences for all dogs.
@paulhotston15105 жыл бұрын
The media is 100% to blame for the reputation of the Staffy. It is always a Staffy type dog or thought to be a Staffordshire bull terrier. It either is or it isn't and the chances are it isn't.

I have two SBT bitches, 1 is always even tempered, the other is not so trustworthy unless focused on retrieving a ball so is always on leash when out and about. They are both wonderful with people of all ages and love children. The other thing I love about the breed is, they like to keep themselves clean, washing their paws and lower legs after a good walk. They have come from different breeders. Even small dogs can be spiteful. My eldest dog was attacked whilst on a lead, by two Llasas. She was five months old at the time and sitting quietly when they went for her and made her ear bleed. Luckily, this has not affected her lovely nature. Over the last fifty years, I have had many dogs, of various breeds, when they are sensibly trained to fit in with your family, properly fed and regularly exercised and shown kindness and affection they are no trouble, whatever breed they are. My dogs get me to exercise, safeguard the home and give me companionship. We live together with mutual respect and I feel blessed.

It is such a shame that people won't see the truth. The only problems are the owners training their dogs to fight. It's terrible

I’ve had my female staffy 10 years now and they’re the best family dog I’ve ever had. We got her 6 weeks after we had first child and she has grown up to love and adore my son and daughter. She shows no sign of aggression and just wants to meet and greet people she meets. Has no real interest in other dogs, other than the roll show her belly to every dog she meets. It does frustrate me when we take her to dog parks and people panic that she will attack their dog. But I’m afraid young kids using them as weapons and the media have played their part in destroying the rep of the perfect family dog. They’re a breed that just wants to please and make you as a owner happy. I think making every owner of every breed of dog pay a license and have insurance will get rid of half the problems we have in the uk. You only have to ask a vet about the breed. As when my dog was treated for cancer, she was the only dog that not caged and was free to walk round with the staff. As they trust the dogs and are generally only bitten by the hand bag dogs. Sad to see they receive such a bad name, for the breed named the nanny dog😢

You are absolutely right, the best dog ever, owned by the worse people on the planet. My Stafford was attacked by an "Irish" bull terrier she's small but very very strong and she held the bigger dog down much to the embarrassment of the other dog's owner and friends. He did nothing to stop the attack and that's the problem it's very rarely the dog and almost always the owner. You are more likely to be attacked by a jack Russell than a Stafford the problem is the Stafford can be deadly. License the owners that'll help to stop this problem.

Chloe Coulter They are not toys or possessions but individuals in their own right , if you are fortunate enough to ever befriend one , you are indeed honoured . If you are serious about taking on this responsibility then do research and only adopt as it is highly immoral to buy another soul especially those that have been bred against their natural will . Also make sure you are financially secure as many people think it’s ok to give a dog away when times get hard . They are family and no decent guardian would ever throw a child out if times got hard , we find a way , simple

Vegan Vocalist i know this, my family has been researching and learning about staffies for a long time and my grandfather had one which has been with me all my life and since i made this comment which let me tell you i had been 10 years old at the time, this had been just an innocent comment, i have gotten a staffy and she is very well taking care of and spoiled even and i don’t know why you even assumed that i thought this way and would think that i wouldn’t know all the responsibilities and hard work that goes into them

I know this video is old but 'born to be loved' is a perfect description of these dogs. As for the scum who have hurt and pain as motive, may they receive the same or grow up.

Carry some pepper spray just in case of emergency. I understand that the owner has a big responsibility with the breed, I'm not a youngsters I've had the breed 4 many years wouldn't have any other.

So people throw animals from windows in high rise flats , exploit and eat animals , force them against their will to fight , repeatedly rape them in the sex trade (orangutangs, do research into PALM OIL INDUSTRY ) but the animals that Man kind abuse in the most vile evil way are the bad ones ??? Thank you for your wonderful work to bring this to the light . I know several staffies whom are the most gentle dogs , that keep them selves to themselves and always stay close to their guardians side . Yet see many half soaked people with there dog family members, not on lead together allowing them to run up to other dogs and people ! then when those individuals whom ARE responsibly walking with their staffy friends by their side, tell them that their staffy friend does not like other dogs rushing up to their face ,are then met with brain dead none factual assumptions and statements like “ oh are they vicious “ NO you moron but my tongue IS ! . Nobody likes others violating their space , WAKE UP and have some self respect by teaching your dog companions , respect for you and others by setting clear BOUNDARIES ... now F....K OFFF retard 🤣😂

I find tiny dogs to be very aggressive. I've been bitten by some toy dog that was a woman's handbag dog and was totally useless around people. The day before I was playing with a Staffy that was completely harmless.

Why is she says that youngers are the problem, there called dickheads, it’s not just young people with staffies, it’s the dickheads who teach the dog to fight and not all of them are young, the staffy is a gorgeous dog and I have one of my own but seeing the stereotype of a teen with this breed I can’t go out without being told my pup should be killed or people saying that I’m gonna use him to kill someone, it’s not right

I own 2 well socialised and totally placid staffs. I have raised 2 good boys with staffs and will never have any other breed. I have absolute respect for the way you have brought your staffs up and the way that your advocating for them. BUT,they were bred STRICTLY for fighting. Period. That doesn't mean that everyone of them will want to fight. My boy is a good lad but he has a trigger, he is fine with most other dogs but if they attempt to dominate him,he will go. He seriously hurt a GSD when he was 2 and ever since then he has been muzzled. My bitch is the same. Please bare in mind that i have trained them well. But when a bull breed attacks, they will NOT stop until either they or the other dog is dead. You can't mess with this breed. I adore them and i trust them totally. But they are a fighting dog. Most don't want to fight, But if they are pushed they will steam in.They were bred to be game dogs. Nothing else. Muzzle them. End of any potential problems.
@GMak817 жыл бұрын
So why own a fighting dog as a pet, rather than as a fighting dog? Essentialy your position is, I own a pet, that was bred as a fighting dog, but I have to muzzle them in public...so why, according to your own logic, do you not own a "non-dog aggressive" breed? To me you seem as uninformed as people who fear Staffords as people aggressive, when the original dog was bred to be extremely unaggressive towards humans, to the point where it was and is recognised as a nanny dog, and 1 of only 2 to be recognised by the Kennel Club as safe around children. Were your dogs fully socialised as pups, and beyond then into early puppyhood?

Unless you believe 100% nature versus )% nurture?
@spiritof69867 жыл бұрын
Glenn Makin I see your point,Glen. But one of the main reasons that i've chosen to raise Staffs,is thier stability of nature. As long as they are socialised early on,they are totally predictable and non aggressive with other dogs. They are bred down from the bulldog which was used for bull pacification and bear baiting. Then you have a large amount of Terrier genes in them. So it's inevitable that Staffs are going to have that 'fire' in them. Left unchecked along with a lack of training and you have a potentially dangerous dog. Same as with any other breed really,they are all pretty much the same at the end of the day. That said, the vast majority of Staffs are laid back,friendly and happy wee dogs like my two. They will avoid a confrontation with other dogs and will share a game with any that want to join in. But if it DOES kick off,they can both do some serious damage and accordingly,i keep them muzzled in most places. They get yapped at and challenged by wee Shi Tzu's,Yorkies etc and they never react badly,mostly just ignore them. But so many idiots get Staffs and mess them up. Deliberately bring the aggression out of them. If i had my way,i'd make every bull breed owner sit a mandatory breed awareness test and only allow people to keep them that deserve them. Licence only.
@spiritof69867 жыл бұрын
Glenn Makin Incidentally,Glen,i do believe mostly in nurture over nature. Good owner=Good dog. Bad=bad. Very few exceptions to that rule.

Oh and dog aggression is not the same thing as when a dog wants to willingly fight has that urge desire hunger to fight so these amateurs that may fight dogs those dogs are dog aggressive they will attack each other or one will attack the other one will defend its self give up or get beat down beat up do nothing be in pain scream. Encouragement helps for some maybe too but you can’t force make train a dog to fight.

The first mistake with this film is the title you have given is The Problem With The Staffy. You then go on to, quite rightly, blame irresponsible, cruel human beings for animal cruelty and antisocial behaviour, none of which is the dog's or the breed's fault. So, in actual fact, the problem is not with the Staffy at all, is it? Please rename this film as the title in itself is defamatory to this wonderfully loving breed of dog. Staffordshire Bull Terriers are simply the best.
