Another great video, thank you for the great info! Two years ago I purchased a vintage lap I believe was built in the 1970’s? It looks as though it has never been used. I’ve never seen one in action so I’ve been hesitant to use it. I am hoping to polish thunder egg halves with it. How much water is used to make the slurry for the 80 grit?

If I use One plate/machine for both sanding and polishing; will the carpet get wet on the bottom of the plate, while running the 3 sanding stages? Thank you, looking forward to getting my machine!

Great video! Question: Do you bolt your machines to the floor? Any other recommended ways of keeping them from walking all over the shop floor like an old electronic football game?
@HighlandParkLapidary5 жыл бұрын
The V1M Flat lap does bolt into the floor, and they won't walk all over the place because they are balanced

Buy those rubber interlocking safety floor mats, that people use in their shops and garages. Here is a link on Amazon (But, you can find these at any Lowes, Walmart, Home Depot, or any Auto Parts Store). www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Exercise-Foam-Interlocking-Tiles/dp/B0719B8HQZ/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=safety+floor+mat+for+garage&qid=1606805931&sr=8-8

To clean out the grit on the plate, are you just spraying it down with water?
@HighlandParkLapidary3 жыл бұрын
We do it in a 3-way process. After we polished the materials, we remove it, and we shop vac the grits on the plate. We then spray it water, and wipe it with a sponge. Gives you a perfectly clean surface, every time.

Sherman is currently in China but will be back very soon. We are really going to shot a ton of content when he does return.

How much water do you add ? Also, do you add more grit or water over the time on the flat lap ??
@HighlandParkLapidary3 жыл бұрын
You may need to add water or grit overtime, depending on how big the material you're polishing 🙂

Would I be correct in assuming that your grit-to-water formulations are only for the large laps shown in the video? If so, how much grit and water would you use, in each step, for a 16" flat lap?

Hi Dylan! For the VM1 Flat Lap, we use a steel plate, when grinding we will use a Silicon Carbide Grit. And for polishing we use Automotive Car Carpet that we cement to the steel plate along with Highland Park Dry Polish

How much polish do you use and what is it called? Is it one of the cerium oxides listed on your site?
@HighlandParkLapidary5 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark! When polishing we initially put 1/3 to half a cup of our Highland Park Dry Polish, which is on its way to our warehouse now and will be up on the website soon. But after the initial 1/3 to half a cup, you will just need to lightly dust the VM1 surface to keep everything moving around and polishing. For polishing, we also use Automotive Car Carpet that cement to the steel plate of the VM1 Flat Lap.

@@HighlandParkLapidary Thanks! I look forward to the dry polish being available.

You use about 1/3 to 1/2 cup to intially charge the carpet then in subsequent runs you use just a powdering of it like you would powder a cake pan. The polish is not yet in stock, its in transit but it is called Highland Park Dry Polish - it should be here in early December.
