I love seeing old equipment still using old tech. I wasn't even aware you could still purchase 1.44MB, double-sided high density disks after the early 2000's!

The somewhat scary thing is since no manufacturer actually makes them anymore, everything we're consuming at this point is new old stock made close to two decades ago and supply is definitely running out. The last major supplier estimates a few years worth of stock remaining. I'm curious to see what all these niche uses for floppy disks will do when the ability to procure them vanishes.

I wonder if the program they’re using is old and no longer works with most modern PC’s? At the same time, the artist seems to be using a modern scanner, monitor and drawing tablet. It’s pretty fascinating.

産まれも育ちも博多の人間なんで、当たり前の様に　先祖代々の物がある。 知り合いもそうだけど、年寄りが亡くなって遺品整理をする時に、大量の着物や帯が出てくるが、殆どがゴミになってしまってる。 本当は有効活用したいけど、凄く高い代物でも二束三文で言われると、色んな思いがあるので　売らずに捨ててしまったとの事だった。 自分も同じ気持ちで、色んな物を捨ててしまってる。 リサイクルしたいけど、それも凄く高いので　悩ましいんよね。 今は機械化されてるけど、昔のは全て手織りと手縫いだからね。 勿体ないと言われるが、実際片付けてる身分からすると、本当…ゴメンと言いながら、色々感情があるんだよね。 …って、映像に関係ない話をして、ごめんなさいね。 つい…博多織だったものでね。

もったいないですね。嫁入り道具に着物を箪笥いっぱいに持たせてくれましたが、着る機会もなく、クリーニングは金がかかり、虫干しも時間と手間がかかり。せめて親が生存中は置いておこうと思ってます。着物グッズが素晴らしいと思うのと現実のギャップを感じます。

Veo mucho comentario por el uso del disquete. Japón tecnológicamente supera con mucho a muchos países. Por que usen algo "antiguo" para una maquina que tendrá ya sus años para seguir manteniendo algo tradicional me parece muy lícito. En otros países no puedes ni adquirir los discos y cualquier tecnología de esos años es para la basura y cuanto más nuevos sean los productos, menos duran y son peores. ¿Alguien usa un móvil que tenga más de 5 años?........

最初の模様の色を付けるところは、手作業なのですね。作成されたデータはフロッピーディスクに記録されていました。 一部は、手作業での織機、そのほかは、自動織機でした。しかし、完成した博多織の帯の不良個所を目視で探し出し、修正するのは神業に近いと思いました。現座でも、帯の材料は正絹だと思いますが、高価な製品です。 大変な手順で帯締めをされた女性はすごく美しいと思いました。

A loom is an old-fashioned machine. Floppy disks are still used here. If you change to a new machine, there will be a problem that the texture of "Obi" will change.

Floppy discs has nothing to do with the old fashioned machine but everything to do with digital storage.

@@tihzho I think it depends on your age, but "a 30-year-old machine that had to use a floppy disk was old enough to me and felt 'old fashioned' or 'traditional'. Of course, it may be possible to replace digital storage with other methods of digital storage, but this company does not or cannot replace it, so I thought it was "old-fashioned".

@@tihzho the problem is the floppy disk was died at latest 10~15 years, what did this company do? or what did japan gov do? they did nothing, they just make bulk purchase, collect the rest disks, and pretend nothing happens. I understand that machines was very robust, but the floppy disk wasn't, the floppy disk in japan just zombie, they will die finally. what's the solution? or what's the Z-day solution? total new workflow? floppy disk replacement? another solution? by the time i saw a brand new computer runs an old system, i knew the answer.

And then one archive somewhere in a middle turns out to be corrupted and we couldn't figure out which one, so we never finished the installation.

I find these videos amazing where the initial machine is 100 years old and then 30-40 years ago they added computer components. I think 3D printing will help some of these old textile factories as parts need to be replaced.
