Wow, I am finishing up your video and I am mesmerized by the detail, machines, and workers’ hands. The urethene coating is pretty amazing. It appears as if it will last for life, truly. Combined with the construction it’s a remarkable feat. As someone who has had their intellectual property stolen, I so appreciate you sharing these processes with us as well as these machines used here at this particular brand. ランドセルは、江戸時代（幕末）にオランダから輸入された布製の「背のう」が起源とされています。その語源はオランダ語の「ransel（ランセル）」で、オランダ語で「背負いカバン」を意味します。イギリスの兵隊も布製の背負い鞄も使っていました。オランダ語の「ransel」が日本語と混ざって「ランドセル」になったと言われています。 明治時代以降の本格的な洋式軍隊となった陸軍においても、歩兵などに対して革製のバックパックが採用されていました。 通学鞄としてのランドセルの利用は、学習院の初等科が起源とされています。 創立間もない一八八五年（明治一八年）、学習院は「教育の場での平等」との理念から馬車・人力車による登校を禁止したため、学用品を入れ生徒が自分で持ち登校するための通学鞄としてランドセルが導入されましたが、当初はリュックサックのような形でした。 一八八七年（明治二十年）、当時皇太子だった大正天皇の学習院初等科入学の際に、伊藤博文が祝い品として軍の将校にならったランドセルを献上し、それがきっかけで世間に徐々に浸透して今のような形になったとされています。 戦前の皮製ランドセルは贅沢な高級品だった事から、地方や一般庶民の間では風呂敷や安価な布製ショルダーバッグ等が主に用いられていましたが、昭和三十年代以降の高度成長期を迎えた頃から徐々に全国に普及し始めました。 素材は当初、天然皮革だけでなくアルミ製（！）というのもありましたが、大きく普及して以降は合成皮革も使用されるようになり、色や大きさなども流行や時代に合わせて変化してきました。 また、より背負いやすく、より安全に使えるように様々な工夫もほどこされています。

The production process and composition are excellent. But I think it will be difficult to reduce the weight. I heard it's a backpack used by young students, and this configuration seems to weigh at least 1kg to 1.5kg. It is estimated to be heavy for children to use.

The only thing .... I wish they had taken a moment to have a completed bag on hand to show what part of the bag each odd little bit WAS. You know, here is a long skinny bit of leather....it is the fastening strap for the main pocket (point to strap being sewn, and point to strap on bag). After all, there aren't many of these here in the states.

I bought one school bag from this manufacturer in Tokyo years ago for 1200 USD. It was made of red Cordovan with excellent craftsmanship. My daughter used this bag for 6 years and it is as shinning as new.

@@8ettieP46e It's top quality Cordovan and I'd say that was a fair price. For other leather material the price is around 800 USD if I remembered correctly .

These bags range in price from $600.00 to $2,000.00. No way my kid would be wearing a bag that cost that much. Not that I wouldn't want them to but it would probably be theirs for less than a day before someone stole it. I'm willing to bet the Japanese don't worry about that as much as we would.

Reminds me a bit on the leather school backpacks we had to carry when I was in Elementary school in Germany in 1966. Nearly indestructible. You could swing your Ranzen and knock your enemy over like nothing, step on it to climb on something, throw it over the fence and whatever we did during those days. Heavy as hell. Luckily later on more lightweight backpacks were in common.

The music in this video is absolutely awful. It just makes it seem like a joke or that they're foolish. It really doesn't work. They are highly skilled craftsman.
