How many of us in the west would love to have our artisan skills as well respected and supported, as in Japan. And the wealth of knowledge of generations accessible to all. Thank you for showing this beautiful work to us.

We still have handmade luxury goods. They take a long time to make and are very expensive but they exist.

@@lobstermash To a much lesser extent than in Japan. I used to have a design store selling artisanal goods, and am a maker myself, know the market, and I know much work is simply not done because it could not be sold at a price people here are willing to pay, in sufficient numbers to be commercially viable.

@@anitapeura3517 Yes, people are not really willing to pay. The silk scarf we saw made in the video retails at about 1100 USD. Ultra luxury market.

絞り染めの技法自体は昔ながらなんだろうけど、たぶん染料とかは合成染料とかがほとんどになってるんだろうなぁって所が、染色としてはちょっと残念。
